- Welcome, today this video is dedicated to a forgotten beauty who was the first to put The Philippines in the spotlight and captivated all the eyes on a worldwide level, she probed that Filipina beauty could be recognized too. It was the Philippines first top five ever and then started actually winning not only in MU but MI as well...she started it all. Of the 24 candidates of Miss Philippines 1963, a Gaddang-speaking Filipina-American halfie from Bayombong was crowned as winner… Her name is Lalaine Bennett, Miss Universe 1963 3rd Runner up.

Please tell Her HAPPY BIRTHDAY to our beautiful Queen Lalaine ♥️💐🎂
I can't forget her movie with Mario Montenegro..a comedy drama love story.
I think we became neighbors when they rented a house in Pasay City.
She was not forgotten Hector, in fact we have a street in my town here in Manila named Lalaine Bennet Street named and in honor of her. All the streets are named after 60's, 70's and 80's winners of Binibining Pilipinas Universe, World and International. I live on Gloria Diaz Street. There are also Margarita Moran St., Melanie Marquez St., Evangeline Pascual St. and many other title holders of Binibining Pilipinas.
Thank you for the info🙏🫶🏼
I was a third grade in the primary public school when Lalaine Bennett won the 3rd runner up title in the Miss U 1963 .... Millennials may not know her, but for us of that generation in the '60's can not forget Lalaine Bennett...She co-hosted the noon time tv show - Student Canteen with former. Sen. Eddie Ilarde
In Las Pinas City, BF Resort Village, I live there in Bambi Arambulo Street, a beauty queen
Thank you for the information ❤
Is she still around ?
No not forgotten. Its just that so many young missologist now havent been familiar with her yet. I was a young teen when she placed the pageant.
A lot of years have passed!
!Muchas gracias, Sr. Hector for featuring Ms. Lalaine Bennett. You're a great friend of the Filipino people!
Our pleasure!😄

I am very sorry Ma'am Lalain Bennet, I almost forgot you. Thank you for your outstanding beauty and intelligence who paved the way for the Filipino to showcase to the world that we are indeed one of the queens of pageantry. You make us all Filipinos proud and love you. Mabuhay ka! We salute you. Thank you sir Hector for this brief yet very comprehensive presentation. This is indeed a teary-eyed and eye-opening experience most especially for Filipinos who have almost forgotten her like me.
You are welcome 🤗
Thank you for featuring Miss Bennette. I met her when I was a teenager and admired her beauty and humility. Truly a wonderful person.
You are welcome! Wow that’s awesome 🤩
One of the few Filipinas I admired when I was a kid and until now. Like Gemma Cruz she’s beautiful, smart , dignified, well educated , humble and with good heart. Thanks Hector for featuring Lalaine Bennet in your vlog.
Well said!😊💟
There was resemblance w/ Catriona Grey . She was so stunning very eloquent. Thanks Lalaine for making us proud . Thanks also Hector for covering Lalaine's story .
You are welcome dear ojie 😊
When I took my vacation in San Fernando, La Union Year 1964, & I saw Lalaine Bennet during Annual Town Fiesta Parade on that occasion.👏⭐️⭐️⭐️🇵🇭❤️
Thanks for sharing!😊
Lalaine is really smart & beautiful not forgotten but always remembered. rememberd
Oh yes Lalaine Bennett. Her time and Gemma Cruz's is when I started following beauty pageants. Thanks for this beautiful vlog about Lalaine Bennette.. God Bless🙏
You are so welcome! Thank you
I can never forget that tall young, beautiful girl named Lalaine Bennett that I saw in CYO Gym in 1962 in Holy Cross of Davao, Davao City. Such a stunner and very approachable, always smiling.
🥺🥺💘💘
....ooopppss I heard that cyo gym😊 that was my school back then in davao city...from Philippines 🇵🇭 to Germany 🇩🇪, I miss my home grown land but hesitant to go back due to this bullying Chinese overpowering the west Philippine sea😢...any moment war would start there😢 also
She is never forgotten there is a main street in Las Pinas named after her. She is always remembered, a beautiful lady with Philippine and American heritage.
😊 glad to know
Thanks Hector. An eye opener to the Filipino people. I happened to meet her in person, and she is stunning, prettier than any beauty queens we have. Very poised, sophisticated and very classy.
Wow that’s impressive, did you take a photo with her?
Yes I did. But through the years, I lost the pics. I was young then but could still remember how she looks. She smiles a lot making her approachable. I may not have her pic but she is still in my mind. @
I had pictures with her in Tacoma, Washington on the occasion of a High School reunion. She is from Bayombong, Nueva Vizcaya where I came from too. Thank you for featuring Tita Lalaine. I hope to see you in Mexico for Miss Universe.. I’m now from LA!! You’re so muy guapo Hector!

Oh ! 1963 I was 7 years and was in grade one. I thought Ms Bennet was a movie star since her picture was in the calendar . My knowledge of international pageants started when Gemma Cruz won the miss international 1964 title.
In fact, she was already a movie star before.joining Miss Philippines and resumed her showbiz career for a short while after MU '63 before getting married to her Polish-Filipino MU escort.
Not ever forgotten!!! She will always be the very first to place as MU runner up!
🫶🏼
Thank you for making this video. It changed my perception about bias with latin race. God bless you. Please continue spreading love.

You are very welcome
Senyor Hector Cemeno Muchos Gracias for your nice video - Jesse Filipino-American watching from Glendale, California 😊
Welcome!😊🧡
You amaze me! I’m so proud of you right now. Thank you. Lalaine had some short ripple of fame after Megan Young won our first MW crown in 2013 because of her strong resemblance to Lalaine in facial features. But while you’re at it here’s a forgotten queen because of the simple fact she was the first ever Miss Philippines. When the Americans bought the Philippines from Spain in a mock takeover in 1898 and we became an American colony, the Americans brought their culture here. Among them was the holding of beauty pageants. In 1909 the first Miss Philippines was crowned and she was Pura Villanueva, 22, of Jaro, Iloilo my father’s hometown. She was crowned during the first Manila Carnival which also made her the first Carnival Queen. Pura was ahead of her time. Before joining the pageant (by accident, she was just enjoying a holiday in Manila) she was already a budding female journalist in Jaro. In 1906, 3 yrs before she became Ms Philippines, Pura Villanueva organized a suffrage group, the Asociacion Feminista Ilongga. Her efforts led to the first suffrage bill reaching the Philippine Assembly in 1907. Pura Villanueva wrote a column for the weekly newspaper El Tiempo, and edited the woman's page. Technically that would make Pura the first beauty queen to have had a life-changing advocacy for her people. The word advocacy is being thrown lightly around in beauty pageants lately, but she was the first to do it!
There’s So much wisdom and knowledge in your words. Thank you for sharing part of the Filipino history that I did not know.
Big hugs😊
@ Pura Villanueva Kalaw look her up, she’s in Wikipedia. I have images of her as I used her for my college paper many moons ago but I’m sure you will find her online via Google.
Well done, Hector. You're absolutely right. She's forgotten. I don't even know who she is, and I'm Filipino. Thanks for making this video now; I will research more about her.

I agree she looked like Megan & Catriona very pretty but never heard about her just now 😢
Now you know her🥰
First husband was Filipino-Polish American Felix Skievaski Sr., a pilot who died tragically in an air crash in the 70s,, Few years ater, married Gregory Wong and settled in Washington. Her aunt, Helen Bennett, placed 3rd (Miss Visayas), in the Miss Philippines search in 1936.
💝💝
Wow! 1930's pa pala me beauty contezt na sa Pinas!
She's not completely forgotten - its just that the new generation wasn't aware of her since its wayback 1963

What a great honor for Filipinos for you to feature Lalain Bennette on your vlog!, thank you very much Hector! Maraming Salamat(Thank you very much)
Thank you too!😊💞💞💞
She is beautiful
this is such a great honor to a nation who loves to send foreign girls to represent them in the Miss Universe.
@@eduardochavacano What do you mean foreign? Even if she was half American, there was still Filipino dna in her which makes her a unique blend of 2 physical characteristics but Filipino in heart.
thank you hector for this part of philippine beauty pageant history
You are welcome 😊
Thank you for posting this video.
You're welcome
kudos bravo hector nice research about Lalaine Bennett
She actually looked like Megan Young than Catriona.. Yeah, shes barely mentioned nowadays..but thanks for bringing her back to our memory..
🤗🤗
WOW! THANKS FOR THIS HECTOR🫶🏻🇵🇭🤍
Welcome 🥰
She is deserving of the crown!!!
Lalaine has similarities in looks with Catriona Grey. She is very beautiful and it was sad during those times, the mainstream was not yet ready to embrace an outstanding delegate due to her country of origin. But inspite of that, Lalaine paved the way, for the world to give recognition to the beauty of a Filipina. Thank you for this tribute.
And Megan Young.
My pleasure Jason
This is so well-researched, Hector! I've known Lalaine Bennett because of my mom. But I have learned so much about her in this video. Thank you for making this, Hector! ❤❤❤
You're very welcome!💛
Wow. Such an amazing tribute! Great story Hector! Thank you so much. I love you!!! She indeed paved the way for other Filipina Queens to be recognized not only for their physical beauty but for their pure heart❤
Glad you enjoyed it 🥰🥰
Just saw her today but she's so amazingly beautiful❤. Love from Manipur❤ ( 🇮🇳INDIA ) .😊 Her beauty is still seen in Megan Young❤ & Catriona Gray❤. When she address her speech, she resembles & remind of Catriona and when she smiles she reminds me of Megan. Hope both the two beauties remind of her❤.
👏🏽👏🏽🥹❤️ thank you for your kind comment
