Hiya, Debra. Part of it is that I think we largely miss the joy of opening stuff - like boxes with ribbons and I am enchanted and obsessed with pockets holding cards that open with some lace that ties and on and on. In this store-bought-gift-bag world, we don't do enough unwrapping.🌻🌼🌷

Kelly, I just found your content today. A life long book lover and personal journaler, I've fallen into the junk journalling rabbit hole. lol So far I've gifted all the ones I've made. But after watching this, I'm going to be making one for just me, using your inspiring techniques. While I don't expect them to be as stunning as yours, I know I'll enjoy the process. Anyway, they'll be just for me.

Hi Debra. Thank you for touching base! Journal keeping is my vocation - illustrated visual diaries, written diaries, idea books, art journals - I mean I keep a LOT of journals. As compulsions go it is okay; very cheap and not-fattening and homemade therapy. Now listen, just start where you are. Maybe the goal isn't stunning so much as the goal is expressing yourself on the page at whatever level you are at in doing that. You will be happy with the result (trust this, you will) AND you will learn and with learning from getting it right and learning from doing it wrong, your style and ability will grow. It is a journey for life. Now go make something! 🌷🌼🌻Kelly

Kelly, always love seeing what you have been up to on Fridays! Beautiful altered book, and I really liked the Christmas card where you altered the inside! Enjoyed every page, but really liked the lady and the peony, and the sunflower page with two women under an old arch. Your focal pieces are always amazing!! Thanks for this great share, Kelly!

In the last two years I have really found some focal point elements that let me combine them to make something a little bolder but still get them to hold together in a world that looks like the inside of my head. For a long time I tried everything and you do have to do that but I now have reached a stage where I can focus on less and do more with it, if that makes sense. And you?

Golly, thank you, Denise! You have made my day, especially from someone as talented as you. And you know, it is wonderful, or was, an will hopefully be again. Before Covid I spent several months a year in Europe, roaming from flea market to old book store to junk stalls to antiquarian auctions. Having been able to build a life around that is one of my great joys and blessings.

That is gorgeous, Kelly, I love the illustrations you have used in this altered book, while retaining its original "bookness" if you know what I mean. I am currently working on an insect-themed altered book and although I have been altering books for many years, I am having a ball with it! Have a lovely weekend (despite the wet weather)! 💙
Hi Kari. I would love to see your insect-themed book! I have a huge box filled mainly with butterflies to be used but also beetles and bees and so on. I usually use them for embellishing and filling in spaces but to make them the star would be really fun. And yeah, the weather! Putting on a jacket to go out, but what will you? It is a Welsh summer. 😁Have a creative weekend!
@@BookandPaperArts Thanks Kelly, my last three videos are all about this insect altered book, I take the viewer through the whole process of preparing an altered book, and the latest video has some spreads that I made. This project is such fun. I know what you mean about the box of insects - I have one of those too and thought it was about time I put them to good use.
I am in Staffordshire and it rained like mad yesterday afternoon. It happens every year when my peonies start to flower and the rain damages them, which makes me rather cross!
