- Pam is mad about the dirty microwave and starts a passive aggressive note battle to try and get someone to clean it.
From Season 5, Episode 9 "Frame Toby" - When Michael discovers that corporate has brought back Toby to replace Holly, he tries to frame him with drugs and to get him fired. Meanwhile, Pam has issues with the disgusting microwave. Finally, Jim surprises Pam by buying his parents' house.

@@guyver441 It is exactly not. Every office I have been in always has an administrator role that takes care of stuff exactly like this. Temps are there short period to practice what they are learning. Very often though, they are assigned one off special projects like cleaning out a storage room. However, turning on the dishwasher and checking if there are messes is something the office admin has always done. Now is it ethically right? I guess that could be up for debate (and definitely explains high turnover for every person I have seen in the admin role).

Makes me appreciate that my office hires a cleaner that comes in after hours. Won't take that for granted.
Part of the Covid deep cleaning we did was cleaning the microwave. I will never take for granted the value of a clean microwave ever again.

All he does is sweep and empty the trash. The rest is up to us. And the covid protocol doesn't include microwave, fridge, etc.
I just noticed something: When Pam read that note about the person “knocking their teeth out” I think that was pretty clearly Dwight. Angela said people kept assuming that she wrote the note, which is probably why Dwight got so angry in his note. That would be pretty insane detail if that is actually the case

Oscar 100% wrote the second note. He's the only person that keeps using the word "coward". Also most likely he's the one that make the original mess too since he's so defensive and keeps changing the focus from the mess to the note

Just speculating, but I have a strong feeling the producers of the show or the set design team wrote the note.
Hey, at least Pam came forward about being the one who left the original note. The coward is the one who made the mess, but never confessed to it. Probably Oscar.

The way Oscar was telling Pam "you couldn't get over the messy microwave" definitely made him suspicious. Like why is he so concerned about the note, why did he care enough to make a snide remark. Oscar is a smartass but there's hardly ever times where he's snotty to someone's face (usually it's during interviews, when he's talking to himself, or sometimes Michael) unless he's projecting guilt. So I agree. Oscar made the mess and didn't own up to it!

Alternate ending to that scene. Cut to Michael heating up something in the microwave and it is making a huge mess. He opens the microwave gets his messy food and just walks away.

I liked the conflict between them, but I don't think it was underused. What about the entire Michael Scott paper company story or all the times Pam to Kelly to stop dating Ryan.
It came off as artificial. The whole "like crack" moment felt like good writing but stiff acting. Pam's new found confidence was a little cringe at times.

I wish they played on it more, would've been a good use of her screentime instead of mostly just being about her love life with Jim. Their brother-sister-like hatred for each other was funny to watch.

Jim’s reaction at 3:36 is why Athlead is such a great arc, even in the garbage fire that is season 9. Throughout the entiiiiiire show, they’ve always hinted that he’s unhappy with his current situation, and they finally did something with it at the very end.
Creed made the mess, and wrote the note defending Pam's. He's a genius.
Pam has more emotional control over this. If I was in that situation I'd have thrown the microwave off the roof.
Did we ever find out who did it? I can’t remember...if not, I definitely feel it might be have been Oscar. He was uncharacteristically aggressive over something so silly (not to mention fixated on the irrelevant factor of the note being anonymous)
A lot people think it was Jim. In the episode he was really quiet about it and wasn’t really sticking up for Pam like how we’d normally see. Also in the later seasons when Jim and Daryl get a place together in Philly we learn Jim is a complete slob.

I think this was the main storyline for a couple of episodes... (edit: he was also hiding the fact he bought a house without asking Pam and was afraid she would not like it)
Oscar is usually that obnoxious... I think he was jealous that Pam went to New York. It sounds petty but it's a very Oscar thing to do (remember the art gallery episode) plus everyone is doing a big fuzz about this for some reason. It could be Phillys, Creed... I wanna say Stanley but I'm not so sure... he got weirdly bothered by it too.

As someone who has to clean up the exact mess shown here on a regular basis because I live with someone who just WILL NOT do it I can totally agree. But I've never seen a note like this EVER working. People just get all pissy and indignant about being called out for their bullshit to the point I wouldn't rule out some microwaving that note and leaving that in there too.

I support Pam. It's Like using the toilet. You need to clean your own mess and flush the toilet. You don't expect someone flushing and cleaning up your mess. Imagine, how disgusting it would be. The same goes with the microwave.

I'm on Team Pam here. No, you're not obligated to be the designated cleaner but if each person cleaned as they go, they wouldn't be in that situation. Instead, they expect someone else to clean their mess up for them.
So instead of everyone cleaning the microwave after each use, everyone cleans the microwave BEFORE each use - everyone still cleans the same amount.

People offended of an anonymous note... but not at the anonymous mess left in the microwave. In our office we finally put up a note reminding people that the microwave was not a necessity and next time it was left a mess there would be no more microwave. Very effective.

sometimes it does not take sides...you can see both povs...i love it when it did that...no real villain ..its a tough situation and you see everyone's angle...its not simple..its complex..season 5 did that a lot...like during casual friday..its not spoonfeeding what to think whose right whose wrong like normal t.v. messages and sitcoms will do...you can see it from every side...i love eps like that with conflicts that are not easily solveable

How is it holier-than-thou to chastise someone for trashing a shared space? Even if the note is condescending, it wouldn't exist if everyone did their [tiny] part of cleaning up after themselves.
I think the first sign she wrote was passive-aggressive and could have been just simply wrote: "The microwave is a shared kitchen appliance. Please clean up after use if you made a mess."
I think the issue was people in the office didn't like to be told to clean up after themselves , therefore it was less about what she wrote and more about the fact that she wrote it.
Moral maturity is accounting for externalities (not letting other people clean up your messes). Both those people who leaves messes for others and those who defend them are simply not adults yet.
Whenever I see Pam cooking spray, I now think of Pam.
A woman I worked with microwaved fish at least once a week and it was brutal... she also took a cue from Ryan and started a fire microwaving popkarn... office microwaves cause more problems than they’re worth.. 🙅🏻♀️

We had this issue at our work. I just threw the microwave away.
