Here's a lore drop for everything you know up until now, and stuff that you might be confused about. No spoilers for later. Blasphemous does explain most through item descriptions: Cvstodia is a religious and pious land which wordhipped a god named the High Wills. Let's leave it at that, remember that name. One day a young man, full of guilt begged the High Wills for punishment. Miraculously his limbs began to twist like roots around the tree. This act was witnessed by....3 witnesses, who later became the 3 holy visages you have met. The divine Will which caused this act, which could not be understood by Cvstodians was deemed the Miracle. The Miracle isn't a being, it's the very manifestation of the 'holy' act itself. The Twisted One would be paraded throughout Cvstodia, people would march in Procession. Cvstodia is a land of penance and Martyrdom culture. People would beg for punishment and take up penances due to their guilt. The horrible acts of the Miracle, were blessings in the eyes of the Cvstodians. The High Pontiff, his Holiness Escribar one day declared the Miracle had turned it's back onto them, and turned his throne around representing this. This enraged the Miracle who inflicted a most horrible affliction on Escribar. A tree would grow out of his back(expalined in heart lores and the statue on the bridge) and would become massive. Then it would catch on fire and burn for 90 days...leaving nothing but a mountain of ash after(seen in ending area). People rushed to the throne, this Cradle of Affliction, where his holiness was kissed by the Miracle, they wanted to attain this holy throne and be blessed. But they were fools. All of them slowly got swallowed up by the ash... One day screams could be heard coming from the ashes. Many screams, so many and one of an old man- a scream as loud as a giant. This formed the Punished, horde of the Miracle and the enemies of Blasphemous 1. They were people who gained an absolute blind faith in the Miracle and carry anger in their guts for whoever avoided such a holy fate(meaning they will attack anyone normal). Escribar was reborn as the red tormented giant. His pain was so horrible, it was divided into 3 wounds given to each Visage. He had an elite force, the Anointed Legion. Esdras and Perpetva are part of it, while Crisanta is the leader. He wrapped their armor and blades in crimson ribbon, blessed by Escribar to protect them. He would get visions of a Penitent of the brotherhood of Silent Sorrow. It was presumably of one coming to harm him, since it would explain his actions. He ordered the execution of the silent sorrow, and all the Penitents were struck down.(If you wanna know why Penitent One is alive, read The Kneeling comic). Laudes was so devoted to the Twisted One, her devotion formed into her own copies of Gold, her devotion Incarnate. Jibrael used to play the Saeta during the march of the Twisted One The land of Cvstodia has been in guilty and painful ruin ever since the Miracle afflicted it. Some boss info: 1. Warden of Silent Sorrow: He's referred to as the Eldest brother by Deogracias after his death, and is named "Eldest brother" in the files. So it's speculated that he's the Eldest Brother of the Silent Sorrow. 2. Ten piedad: A man full of guilt slept on that statue. When he woke up he was inside a wooden shell, he was inside the monster we fight. So when the fight ends and blood spills out of it's mouth, it's probably the man inside dying 3. Exposito- it's a baby whose mother was burnt on a pyre for being called a witch. The baby was blindfolded so it wouldn't see it's mother burn. When it cried, it would be put into the arms of a wicker doll. However...the doll seemed to rock the baby by itself and even move. The doll actually inhabits the spirit of the mom, and the umbilical cord we fight in the arena has the mom's face 4. Melquiades- He is based of actual exhumed bejeweled saints. However another interesting thing is that he and Exposito have one very similar part in their osts. Me and others speculated he might have been responsible for the burning of Exposito's mom 5. Quirce- He was an unjustly executed man who was reborn through the flames As for the areas: 1. Wasteland of Churches- Abandoned churches which weren't deemed pure enough. They all slowly twisted and sunk 2. Mercy dreams- seems like a dungeon or prison 3. Desecrated cistern- Sewers 4. Jondo- Jondo was an ambitious project of a man named Lindquist, who wanted to make a massive bell erect upside. However he didn't live to finish it 5. Library of Negated Words- it stores sacrilegious knowledge 6. Canvases- Stores sacriligeous art
