I'm with you on no TBRs. I have one shelf on my bookshelf of unread books and when I finish one book, i like to shop that shelf and see what I'm in the mood for. I don't read a log of King but I loved Pet Sematary and Misery and I'm about to start his short story collection- So You Like it Darker. I have a short attention span as of late and figured the short stories would be a great option for me to kick off spooky season. I'd like to read Salem's Lot in October.
I love that. I don't even have a bookshelf yet. And I think that is a good thing. I have one book on my nightstand. Everything else is hidden. Allows me to focus on my single book that I am on so I don't book hop. Misery was so good. That was my first book I read of his. I'm loving Pet Semetary so far! I find that I like his older books and writing style far more than his books today. Not that they are bad but the language and word choice he uses. I feel like there is more suspense and mystery to his older books. You should join us with Salem's Lot next month! Super excited for that one.
Great list! I've read over 20 of SK's books now; Pet Sematary & The Outsider are both firmly in my top 3 favorites of what I've read from him so far. Can't go wrong with those! I always feel that something is lost about his storytelling when they try to translate his work to TV; and I think it's his humor! SK is hilarious, and he uses humor to balance the horror brilliantly... but his humor is in his actual prose & his descriptions -- stuff that doesn't and can't get captured in the adaptions.
I'm primarily a fantasy reader and SK's prose are such a breathe of fresh air! His writing isn't overly poetic or flowery. It's accessible yet not juvenile. His writing style paints such vivid pictures and evokes emotion. I just finished Pet Sematary this morning! WOW amazing. I've got a review on it coming this week!
aaa, misery was also my first king's book. needful things is also my favourite and eventhough it's not a ghost per se, but the attitude of all castle rock people, indeed spooked me.. showed how evil people can be when they're desperate lol
YES! I was talking to my uncle about this. King does such An amazing job with conveying the depravity of man. How that is almost more spooky than a ghost or zombie.
i'm planning to finish House of leaves. Put it down this summer because it was too scary and confusing but now going to give it another go, spooky season and all
Funny you say this, House of Leaves almost made the list. It's definitely up there for me to try but it sounds like it has a lot of homework. Which isn't necessarily a bad thing. It's for a purpose. You have to work for the messages and meanings in the book. I'm sure it's a reading experience unlike any other.
I'm not a King fan but I'm massive fan of Ray Bradbury. I recommend the anthology "The October country", two short stories there are *super* spooky and my all time favs, they are: The scythe and The crowd. Bradbury has another novel set on Halloween, "The Halloween tree", it's a middle grade. Some adults don't like to read "children's stuff", so I just throw that info here in case you don't want to be disappointed when you turn the last page 🤪. Edit: it's time for a reread of "Fahrenheit 451" 👀, you'll appreciate more its message now as an adult and also in this new wave of book banning in the US.
I CANNOT wait! I’ve been so pumped to read Salem’s Lot for months now but I’ve been holding off specifically for October. Gotta have the full spooky vibe in effect
the shiining left me stunned sitting there thinking wow,,,, king is beyond brilliant ive read IT too but the shining is the best book i have ever read in my life.
I keep hearing that same thing about the shining! Many say it’s his best work and his scariest. More so than IT and Pet Semetery. I’m saving shining for winter time
I enjoyed Pet Semetery saw the older film well before I read the book as a kid. both still hold up. The film for misery is also great. It's was Cathy Bates debut. If you burn through all of those books . The Exorcist would be a fun holloween book. It asks the question what would it take for an atheist to take thier child to an exorcist. Great movie as well.
I haven't read him enough or followed the hype about him for me to think he is overrated or not. Im thankful I naturally came to him on my own and really enjoy his writing style.
Currently reading "Salems Lot" and I have about 150 pages left. Loving it! I have the outsider and Misery as well. Not yet read
Love it! I'm half way through Pet Cemetery. I'll probably get to Salem's lot later this week of the first week of October!
@Thomas.R.Howell Nice. Hope you do a videos/a video on the both of those. Enjoy!
@@ethanmichael17 I got a review on Pet Sematary coming up this week!
Currently reading the book eaters. And i really like it.
Love the mug! I have put many...many hours into that game haha.
Such an addicting game! And a perfect game for fall and winter!

Misery is probably my fav King book so far... I finished Salem's Lot yesterday.
I hope you love “Something Wicked” as much as I did. Watching your vid made me want to reread it.
Love it!
All of these books are great. Salem's Lot is my favorite of King's books and Pet Semetary is probably his darkest book. Hope you enjoy these.
I cannot wait! Thank you for hanging out!
Currently I have 70 pages left in Pet Semetery and I think things have finally churned in a darker direction oh boy
I’ll be doing a review next week

I've only read Bradbury once in school. I NEED to reread 451 because yes it is all too true in 2024.
Salem's Lot was amaaaazing

Ya Misery was quite a good book!
I still haven't seen the Exorcist film... I need to add both the book and film on my list. Thank you!
I actually got the outsider and pet semetary couple weeks ago. I am a new reader and am pretty slow at it… 25 pages an hour lol but making progress
That’s awesome! It’s never a bad thing to be a slow reader! I am too. I actually just posted a video on being a slow reader lol
I love the stardew valley mug
Thank you! I might have to make a video on Stardew Valley...
Onto Order of the Phoenix now but think I’m going to switch to Salems Lot after..
Order of the Phoenix was my fav hp book! Loved Salem's Lot. Just finished it yesterday. I'll be posting a review soon!
@@Thomas.R.Howell Just started Salem’s Lot today, looking forward to your review!

I like some of S. Kings books but I truly think he is way way overrated.
