It's so sad that all three of these Hawaiian music legends are no longer with us a little more than 7 years since this video was made. But now the Kanikapila continues in Heaven with Gabby, Martin, Raymond, Sonny, Atta, and all the others they played with in Waimanalo and Waikiki.
Yes it is very sad. BUT if you catch the 2020 Gabby Pahinui Slack Key Guitar Festival on You Tube, you'll hear The Lim Family, George Kuo and some others who are still with us and some newcomers who are very good. Gotta pass it on. I, for one, am glad that I was there for a lotta years and am thankful for all the music
Jody Y Insaw a flier on TH-cam announcing the Cyril Pahinui Slack Key festival. Came up on my thumbnails a day after it was actually held. Sadly it was the same day as the Merrie Monarch festival, the hula olympics
@@sandramorey2529 It was a wonderful tribute to Cyril Pahinui recorded for live streaming in the backyard of Cyril & Chelle Pahinui's home in Waimānalo, and fortunately, they made it available on TH-cam! Next year, they hope to have it live for people to go to the festival in Waimanalo again, but this time, you can see it all online from the comfort of your home! wow. this really hit me listening to the narratives. first time in the nearly 6 months ive been away from the islands that i really missed it. the sounds and stories of these men made me appreciate my time home. it also made me sad that i wasnt able to learn the mele and play from my papa and his friends. one of the down sides of living on another island, but moreso a major down side of not appreciating what was right in front of me when i was young...
My grandfather played with gabby I want the 6 string guitar but he still alive I gotta wait but I love singing old school Hawaiian songs especially gabby
The latest Gabby Pahinui Slack Key Festival (2020) was held on line because of COVID19. It may still be up here on TH-cam. You do what you have to do and it's presence callouss all and fills our souls with joy.
