I 100% agree. It’s easy enough to relocate it and get it out of the water drain area. Doing so Will help prolong the life of the hydraulic motor assembly and makes it easier to service in the future!
I cant get the old motor top off (That you twisted off at 6:19 on video) as I need that little disc with 9 holes. I tried with large wrench and screw driver to get it off, no luck. I need that disc and cant find one. Any help? Thanks
Maybe use some penetrating oil on it, give it some small taps with a hammer,(nothing crazy), try putting it in a vise or something that will hold it steady and use a hammer and chisel to gently tap it out upwards. It’s probably just rusted in there
What did you use for hydraulic fluid? ATF, Power Steering Fluid, ? Very informative video! On my Z4, I can hear the motor running but the hydraulics do not work. I’m planning on pulling the pump/motor out & see if it’s low on fluid, or what. The thing sat for a Long time before I bought it, so who knows the condition.
Definitely worth checking fluid level, I didn’t not have to add any as mine was just the motor. A quick google search I came up with this part number 54340394395. I’d get that or an equivalent fluid from fcpeuro.com
@stretch-1982 what did you end up doing? Mine is doing the same thing - motor runs but the top doesn't move. I can open/close manually without putting it in manual bypass.
@crazycrayfish7610 my motor was bad, that was my real issue, after replacing the motor, I was missing the switch in the trunk for the cover, after flipping that switch It worked!
any suggestions on getting the bottom half of housing out... i got the top half off and motor partial out but motor cables are caught behind the lower housing and can't get the darn unit out...
Definitely a tight place maybe remove the lines from the unit well it’s still back there? Maybe a line is still attached with a clip? Hard to say, did you fight his out?
@@dirtykurty92 i was able to get it out tx.. got the new one hooked up work great for about 6 attempts and then i got a dreaded flashing RED led no power what so ever top... no window activity, no top latch activity or rear motor..

Looking back your right! 100% possible to do it without removing the lines! I didn’t think it was hard to remove and be able to inspect the hydraulic pump well it’s off, made it worth it to me
Seems like your fishing for some negative attention sailor. But the fish aren’t bitting today, hope the video was informative and you got the information you needed out of my video, all free of charge! Good luck on repairing your convertible top!
Even though mine is still working, after watching this, I think it best to just move the motor to the trunk. Thanks Kurt

@paultass4235 ahh I see. Now is sounds like you have a permissive issue now! Maybe the small switch in the trunk, or the one in the convertible top
@@dirtykurty92 the trunk switch would be indcated with amber led, where is the convertible switch located?

Where did you buy the motor?
I bought the motor off Ebay for about 100$

lmao the whoop whoop fist pump
Always the best feeling getting something fixed!
You don't need to disconnect the hydraulic lines to change the motor.

@@dirtykurty92 Nope. Just pointing out you need to stop using your Jack Russell and get a tripod.
@@tim-hill I have a tripod, it just does not fit in the trunk of a z4! but thanks for the comments and view. Don't forget to subscribe !!!
