I love Stannis but he did not understand his brother at all. Robert gave him Dragonstone because he was the next in line to the throne and because Storm’s End was where he had to eat rats to keep from starving to death. This would be like if Wills got mad at Charles for making him Prince of Wales not Prince of Windsor.
I don't think it had to do anything with rewarding (even if GRRM says otherwise) or Slighting Stannis. More likely it had to do with strategy and common sense. Whoever rules Dragonstone commands the houses based on Driftmark, Claw isle and Massey's hook, and since Dragonstone was in the possession of the Targaryens even before the conquest, Houses Massey, Sunglass, Bar Emmon, Velaryon, Rambton and Celtigar, have been sworn bannermen and allies of the Targaryens, which means Robert needed to place someone strong and loyal in Dragonstone to knock out any notion of insubordination from those Targaryen loyalist houses, and sure enough Stannis did manage to convince these houses to rally behind him when he made his claim known, until he decided to burn their places of worship down and the Rambtons rightly opposed him in that decision, but the point stands. Robert knew stannis was a worthy ally and someone he wanted on his side, even if he didn't like him very much.
You forget that Robert basically bullied the hell out of Stannis growing up, taking the piss out of the one thing Stannis was kinda proud of in raising Proudwing. Why would Stannis view anything Robert did in favourable light? He even says that he knew Robert viewed Ned as more of a brother than him. Which imo is ironic, because Ned was very different to Robert and imo much closer to Stannis in personality and ideas of justice. Its clear Stannis just felt underappreciated by Robert. Imagine holding your families main seat through years of siege, surviving on literal boot leather, in the name of your brother and when he wins the war he gives said main seat to a child brother who did nothing, and sends you off to a miserable island in the sea. I don't think he really cares what said main seat represented to the previous dynasty.
16:15 Technically, he's Joffrey Waters. The names don't come from recognition of ancestry, they come from where they are raised. Crownlands-raised, he is a Waters.
I’ve always felt like Renly declares himself king because Littlefinger made so many jokes about Stannis and was constantly telling Renly he would make a better king.
@@idolsrule4678 I don't even think Renly would've been a good King. He doesn't have any experience, with anything really. Being "likeable" isn't really a trait that helps you manage a Kingdom, its finances and maintain peace and defend it from threats.
my favourite house ,, ours is the fury .. i really like them more because they are Descendants from the storm kings the Durrandons .. and i like the way you add low sound music during the video it just makes it excited
Minor nitpick, Blackfyres are a cadet branch, not a rouge branch. I would say their only tragedy is Renly being easily manipulated as a Tyrell puppet for the Crown, the rest is more or less average for a House.
Great video! Though I would disagree that Stannis hated his brothers. Sure, he said he hated them out of anger and spite and he was slighted by Robert, in particular. But let’s not forget some other moments of the books that the show of course took out. “I have a duty to my daughter. To the realm. Even to Robert. He loved me but little, I know, yet he was my brother. The Lannister woman gave him horns and made a motley fool of him. She may have murdered him as well, as she murdered Jon Arryn and Ned Stark. For such crimes there must be justice.” Stannis was still loyal to his brother after his death. He wanted to deliver justice to those who wronged him. “If he had done his duty by his brother, we would have smashed Lord Tywin. A victory even Robert could be proud of.” Stannis still thinks of making Robert proud even after his death. And then we have Stannis’ monologue about Renly: “Only Renly could vex me with a piece of fruit. He brought his doom on himself with his treason, but I did love him, Davos. I know that now. I swear, I will go to my grave thinking of my brother’s peach.” Stannis loved his brothers. That love was just never reciprocated.
Who in their right mind would want Storms end over Dragon stone? Especially as someone with Targaryen blood? The heritage… And it’s literally where the heir resides lol. Normally it is not gifted to anyone. It is simply where the heir lives until its time to take the Throne. Stanis man 😂
@5:12 There's not really much to suggest Rogar objected to Jaehaerys and Alysanne's marriage for religious reasons (that was mainly Septon Matheus' bluster.) Rogar, like Alyssa, objected for political reasons. Rogar, like Alyssa, really wanted to avoid another civil war, especially considering the last civil war had JUST ENDED and the Faith of the Seven's militant orders had disbanded basically 5 minutes ago. They worried that the king entering into an incestuous marriage so soon after the Faith Militant War would cause all the old wounds to just open up again with the pious Westerosi. And fair enough, that definitely could have been exactly what happened, had it not been for the fact that Jaehaerys was a skilled politician and preemptively won the propaganda battle with his Seven Speakers, which meant that he didn't need to fight an actual war
Damn you Harbo, this is your first non-DW video I've ever watched (and not disliked 😈). But that's it, after this its back in the Who mines for you! For the rest of your life if I have my way! (muahahaha)
Stannis will win the battle on ice, and jon snow will defeat ramsay bolton once he flees to the dreadfort. Stannis will die defending the seven kingdoms from the wights burning shireen as a last ditch effort
Help me make more GoT videos!

Maybe House Baratheon just has poor judgment. Who would take a boat anywhere near a place named “Shipbreaker Bay”, Steffon??
A deep dive like this into a criminally treated House Tyrell would be amazing
Bobby B appearing in The Battle of Ranskoor Av Kolos was the greatest tragedy of all 😅
Great to see you branching out your content!
Definitely looking forward to more Ice and Fire videos from you mate!

Lore vids as a whole are always good. hope to see more.

Yeah I messed up on that bit
I’ve always felt like Renly declares himself king because Littlefinger made so many jokes about Stannis and was constantly telling Renly he would make a better king.
Renly would’ve been a good king in a peaceful rule. Not in the middle of a 3-way war 😂

How GoT Should Have Ended: King Gendry Baratheon, First of His Name! King of the Andals, the Roynar, and the First Men!
No it should have ended with Gendry goes to Storms End only to get a severe beat down by a former Stannis supported.
@@capricornyearofthetigerwhy would they do that if he's a legitimized Baratheon? 😂
@FireLordTrillzLibrary *legitimised, but yea!

honestly, game of thrones makes so much sense for you to cover and i cannot explain why

Stannis got done so dirty
Not the video I was expecting but I love game of thrones so I’m all for it!!!
I’m in full support of GOT content from Harbo, and pledge fealty.

@7:03 Part of Borros's decision was also that he was also a firm believer that daughters are not worth as much as sons. What a guy
Yes! Do more Game of Thrones videos!
Interesting video for this channel…
Will you be doing a video on the 11th Doctor cosplaying as Daemon Targaryen during the Dance of the Dragons!?
Yes Game of Thrones content let’s go
This is great! I love backstories. ❤
Great vid!!!
More like it 👍
Ours is the Fury!
Nice to see some love towards House Baratheon. Had Robert only loved his brothers, then Stannis would have been King.

Land is wealth and Dragonstone hardly as any.

Even in the books there’s only 2 baratheons left and one is a little girl whose greyscale might come back

A Trillion% down with you doing GoT content so you're aware
Thanks for the spoiler alert.
We don't meet Stannis in A Game of Thrones, he appears from A Clash of Kings onwards
And he's definitely not dead
You really do have some weird obsession with TV shows that get ruined in the later seasons.
more like house boreatheon
