    As a 20+yr professional medical provider and frequent wilderness explorer... I routinely find myself watching this type of video with skepticism- but finally someone ( you ! ) put together something that I would consider actually worth a damn...
    1- well thought out
    2- high degree if specificity when choosing your items
    I AM VERY IMPRESSED!!

    TheAO, I just recently found this video and wanted to express my gratitude for such a well-organized and clear presentation. I've always carried an IFAK, but I wanted to improve it. I now have the FR-1 and surgical gloves pouch from Maxpedition (I'm pleased with the quality), and am collecting other supplies. Thanks for your time and effort. Mark from Utah

    This is very impressive. I like how much gauze you have in there. A lot of kits seems to rely on quick clot and only have 1 or 2 gauze dressings.
    Personally, if I could only carry one first aid item it'd be a pack of sterile gauze swabs.

    This is a great kit. Mine is similar and works for my traveling and camping needs. It has come in handy to help others as well. Only thing I didn't see that I recommend is a good Israeli bandage. Those things are great and works wonder for a major wound. Saves time during a critical situation.
    I think this is a great example of an individualized kit and everyone needs to do this. Find something that works for you and your health needs and make a nice kit like this.
    Great job!

    I ordered two of these bags from Maxpedition on their heavily advertised BOGO sale, but after five days hadn't received any confirmation of shipping. I wrote them this afternoon asking when the products would ship and got no answer, so I just called them, and was informed "the terms and conditions specify that because of demand shipping would be delayed" and that the items would ship "Next Week." Resorting to the old "Terms and conditions" ploy (who reads those?) and the failure to promptly answer my email inquiry, as well the vague "we'll ship next week" all suggest scam or at least the kind of business I don't want to do business with. I'd also note that when you call the contact us number, option one is if you're a dealer, option two is if you WANT to be a dealer, and only option 3 includes, as a catch-all, inquiries about an order. Not a business I'd want to do business with again.

    Have had the Max FR-1 IFAK (First Aid Kit) for over a year and not had to use. Some people here in Albuquerque foothills do not even carry a light day pack ! No light jacket or extra clothing, food (snacks), a LED flashlight; NO they just call 9 1 1 for help and did not THINK first ! My sister sometimes teaches young kids "The Ten Essentials" by the Seattle Mountaineers; something there parent should already know. Time to go over my FR-1 system again and do some upgrades and get closer to a good system like yours. Also some Farm or Tractor stores have some Vet supplies that may be useful and cheaper... Keep up the good work.

    I have a couple FAK's in my car: a basic kit I got at REI and a military kit in a metal box I picked up when I was in the Navy. I'm thinking of transferring the stuff in the military kit to some other container. I happen to have a toilet kit that came with some luggage. It has all kinds of pockets and elastic sleeves that might just do the trick. It opens up flat so that I can see everything and also has a hook at the top so I could hang it from something if I needed to. Just a thought.

    Good kit, interesting video. I noticed you used grip-seal bags for a lot of the initial kit (plasters, medicine). I also do this with my medical kit but have also used them to store gauze, wound pads etc. I find it helps to keep the packaging intact, reduces space if you push out as much air as possible before sealing and you can remove the item more easily. I would be interested to know what you think about this.

    @psmith9947 9 ปีที่แล้ว

    You have great stuff in there....just a few pointers to improve your knowledge and skill: The popsicle sticks are called tongue depressors (great idea to double them as splints!). The scalpel blade has no handle? The CAT tourniquet is not applied as you stated, you first cinch then turn and then write the time (make sure that it's always placed on either the Femur or the Humerus and never anywhere else. Have you heard of fluorescein? (they sell 12 LED blacklights to analyze). Consider an antibiotic eye treatment. Life, Limb or Eyesight are the rules for immediate evacuation. Consider changing from paper tape to "silk" tape.

    • @TheAmericanOutfitter
      @TheAmericanOutfitter  8 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      +Dustin Parsons Hi, I built the kit piecemeal. It was cumbersome to acquire all the specific items. I got the CAT Tourniquet
      from Amazon. Make sure it’s an authentic red tip sealed in plastic. I also have a SOF Tourniquet from ITS Tactical. I think the SOF Tourniquet is of higher quality. The nasopharyngeal airway and lube I got at a gun show, but you can also find them on Amazon. These are some of the places I buy my first aid supplies from: Mfasco, Rite-Aid, CVS, Milspec Monkey, Moore Medical, First-Aid Survival Kits, ITS Tactical, REI, Galls, National Survival Center, Restockit.com, Prepardness.com, Bestglide.com, Going Gear, Survival Resources, First-aid Products.com, Amazon, eBay, Rescue Essentials.com, First-Aid-Industrial.com, Unline,... Hope this helps, Respectfully

      chucklesRH Hi, the big red
      bag is my personal home kit. It has everything the FR-1 has but multiplied by 3
      or 4, plus a few extras. The red bag probably has about $1000 worth of medicals
      supplies in it. This is a ballpark figure. I don’t have a vid on this bag but, I’ve
      listed most of the contents in the discussion section of my channel. Thank you

      @TheAmericanOutfitter  10 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Prepper Skirra and thanks for chiming in. I don’t plan on review my home medical kit anytime soon because it is too big and cumbersome, but if I decide to do so in the future, I will be sure to show everyone all of the contents. It is basically 8 - 10 times what I have in my FR-1 and some of the components are of higher quality and greater in volume. It can treat more people for a longer period of time and the pharmacy is more comprehensive. Thanks, again and Happy New Year!

  • @stormycliffs
    @stormycliffs 8 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Impressive you can fit all of that in there, just my 2 cents - If I were you I would put 1 surgical mask and 1 dust mask, and a small lighter to sterilise tweezers. So all in all, how much do you estimate all the equipment you took out on the table cost? not including the pouches themselves. thanks.

    • @TheAmericanOutfitter
      @TheAmericanOutfitter  8 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Hi, I have a surgical mask in the kit, but no room to carry much more. It’s packed to the gills. I carry a Helios lighter in my pocket, but also have some alcohol prep pads. This kit is equipped with approximately $300 - $350 in medical supplies. I did not keep a running total, but this is an approximate
      rough figure. The hidden cost is that the bag needs to be refreshed or replenished every two years or so and expired items have to be purchased again. Respectfully

    • @TheAmericanOutfitter
      @TheAmericanOutfitter  10 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Trevor Kukuk, I purchased my empty medical bag about 3 or 4 years ago from one of the vendors listed in my write-up. I can’t remember from which one, but it is called the EMS Paramedic Trauma Bag and measures about 22 ½” long x 14” high x 12 ½” wide. It is a professional grade bag and will easily handle 20 lbs of medical supplies. If you are interested in a medical backpack, you may want to look at the STOMP II or the Special Ops Field Medical Pack. Also, TrueNorth, Statpacks and Merit Omni make premium bags, but they are expensive. The choices are endless. Good luck.

      Kyle Karl Not often at all, but I may replenish some items every 12 or 18 months
      or as I use them. I am not concerned about items being a few months past their
      expiration date. I may replace the Neosporin and some of the meds periodically,
      but mostly everything else I let ride unless it is punctured or exposed.
      Thanks.

    Re your ammonia inhalants: great care MUST be part of the use of these items. If used to awaken someone with an altered level of consciousness where the cause is either d/t a fall or is otherwise unknown, the victim/patient might have a severe c-spine injury. The victim/pt might jerk his head violently to escape the fumes and potentially cause further c-spine injury. For the untrqained, ammonia inhalants are better left out of an FA kit.

It basically has everything the FR-1 has but multiplied by about 3 or 4 times plus a few extras. It would be too cumbersome and time consuming to dump out. Thanks

      TheAmericanOutfitter so dude, youre thinking of helping someone bleeding but you keep your gloves like that? i suggest you, very strongly, to ditch those gloves and get some that come on a sterylized plastic bag, otherwise you could infect a wound really quick with those blue exposed and contaminated gloves, greetings

    • @TheAmericanOutfitter
      @TheAmericanOutfitter  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      kevin morales Hi, the purple gloves inside the enclosed glove pouch are for protecting me for blood borne pathogens. They are the same type of gloves I see in clinics and ambulance rigs. They come in a carb board box unsealed and the box says “Protective Single-Use Examination Gloves for Emergency Operations.” The police, firefighters and EMS workers in my area don’t wear sterilized sealed gloves. Even my dentist only uses regular examination gloves. Sterilized gloves are mostly used at hospitals by surgeons. They are more expensive and difficult to crush down and fold up. They come in a waxy type wrapper and are made by Dynarex. Respectfully

    • @keevomora
      @keevomora 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Holy! Really? In my university we aren't allowed to use those, some clinics use them for exploration purposes but not for treating open wounds, I, as I am on Mexico use sterilised ambiderm gloves, each glove comes wrapped on its little bag, and sterile, a $15 dollar box gave me like 200 gloves, obviously they aren't surgeon gloves but they are sterilised for the protection of my patient and myself, I would still recommend sterilised gloves (for legal purposes). Great video anyway.

      One Account I am not well versed on lifeguard stations. I would think a good pair
      of bino’s would be your primary tool of observation to spot trouble at a
      distance. I would also suspect that waterproofing and lightweight portability
      would be key components to building a proper kit. Search around TH-cam, you
      might find someone who has already built a custom kit. Thanks.

      @TheAmericanOutfitter  10 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi LMR187, please take a look at my Maxpedition bottle holder video. I briefly showed the FR-1 at about the 9 minute mark. There are literally a thousand and one ways to pack this kit and I’m sure everyone will do it in a way that is most convenient to them. I used a lot of mini kits (bleeding, blisters, burns, dental, pharmacy) within the pouch, which is my style of packing. I like to be organized because often I only need to pull out one kit to render treatment to myself. Enjoy.

    • @LaurenR187
      @LaurenR187 10 ปีที่แล้ว

      Well it's just always interesting to see how different people organize their kits. I am going through my kit again to pack it a little more efficiently so I'm constantly watching videos for ideas.

    I can't believe you got all that stuff in that pouch wow. You would be better off with disposable scapula then an Xacto knife. Remember tampons just absorb blood they don't stop it.

    • @TheAmericanOutfitter
      @TheAmericanOutfitter  8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +Steve Hancock Hi, yes, the kit is filled to the gills. The tampon is handy for nose bleeds and punctures. It is also handy for injuries between the fingers or toes. It can also be used as gauze packing inside the mouth. They can also serve as improvised
      hearing protection in a pinch. It might also help some unprepared teenage daughter. There are many good uses for that funny looking gauze like implement. I also have a sterile disposable surgical blade in the kit. It can be seen at approx. 17:44. Stay safe, respectfully

    • @hancocs911
      @hancocs911 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +TheAmericanOutfitter All good usage for a tampon but I have seen people put them in there kits thinking it is a blood stopper. I see you had the surgical blade. i just find having a handle on it gives you much more control and takes up little space. But wow what a great kit. Well thought out.

  • @cplinstructor

    Very complete first aid kit, but it’s a bit of an overkill, you have a lot of repetition and a lot of unnecessary stuff and stuff that should be elsewhere in your kit, not crammed in with the medical supplies. You’ve also got that so packed you wont be able to find things efficiently.
    You are also almost entirely missing serious trauma supplies, you’ve got enough to take care of non life threatening injuries but other than one actual tourniquet (you have that staged wrong by the way) you have nothing to deal with life threatening bleeding. You need to eliminate some of the unnecessary and repeated stuff and at a minimum add some compressed gauze and a pressure dressing, but hemostatic gauze would be better generally speaking, chest seals seals would be another nice thing to have, and so would a decompression needle.
    A burn dressing could also be very useful in a kit like that, and where are your cravats? You should have at least two of those, but preferably three or four, they are a multi use item and could replace most of those gauze pads.

    Too much stuff, too many kind of gaz and too much stuff. Made it slimer and more multi use. The best med kit isn't the most bigger, its the most versatile.
    Dental stuff shouln't be there, put this in your hygiene pouch...
    1 tourniquet will be ok or maybe 1 more in rober.
    Tampon come on dude use other stuff
    seringue, there not sterilazed ...
    Not sugar for hypoglecymia
    too much pen and sharpie, take just one write in the rain pen with a LED light on it (like a COLT LED pen fill with write in the rain)
    A lot of your bandage can be remplaced by a single israely bandage
    crazy glue and batery should not be there ... it's not a tool box
    You have a lot of medication that will not be usefull in emergency situation.
    and a lot of stuff ...
    Come on dude, and dont hate I'm a experimented nurse lol

      @tangoalphawhiskey 10 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I'm not following your logic with picking his kit apart. It's an individualized kit that works for him and he's done an outstanding job with it. If you really are an experienced nurse, I'm sure you've heard of dermabond. All it is, is super/crazy glue used to approximate the edges of an open wound. Superglue might not be medical grade, but it definitely works in a pinch.

    • @kf6iow
      @kf6iow 10 ปีที่แล้ว

      As an experienced nurse myself & trained in pre-hospital med, super glue is GREAT! Sterile or certainly clean and works terrific for closing small wounds plus will stay in place until wound is healed. 'Natch, clean the wound etc. first. Nothing wrong with sugar (diabetics frequently keep several hard candies with them when their on-board serum glucose gets low. Yes, a tube of 15g or 30g Glutose would be better ... Tampons wok well when you don't happen to have a Rino-rocket handy. I do take issue with the ammonia inhalants. Not a good idea to keep in a kit. Too much of a risk of someone using them on someone with an altered ALOC (altered level of conscious -- i.e., unconscious or knocked goofy) because the cause could be a c-spine injury. All you need is a patient to jerk away from ammonia nastiness and complicate an already injured neck.
