No one asked, but as for me, I was apolitical until I was an adult. I still have no side. I lean both directions depending on the topic, but overall I'm a conservative. I find that conservatives are more center, which seems to be more logical. I don't pick sides, I go with what makes the most sense.

The problem is that a lot of the gain is legal but not ethical. Politicians often get "book deals" worth millions and other "legal" means that are clearly in exchange for something.

One problem with govt officials profiting off of their positions is lobbyists...they will pay officials to make laws that benefit their causes and corporations. So, instead of working for us, the citizens, they're working for lobbyists.
Lobbyists actually write or help wright a lot of laws, supposedly because they have a greater understanding of the issue. If the congress person or senator is ethical this can streamline the issue and bring good information and perspective to the table. Unfortunately, these possible benefits require genuine ethical collaboration and due diligence on the part of our elected officials. If you think that’s rare, I believe you would be correct. The problem is that a lot of the gain is legal but not ethical. Politicians often get "book deals" worth millions and other "legal" means that are clearly in exchange for something.

so the presidential salary is 400k, if i took that job my net worth would go up by a little over 4x, for someone to become president and get a 30x increase they would need to have been making 13k/year...or profiting off the position to enrich himself in other ways.
yes if you are president people will want to pay you to speak, you shouldn't be accepting that, WE shouldn't be accepting that, that is just laundering bribery. we pay the president a salary, a pretty good salary i would add, give him a place to live, security, his own chef, cover his travels as needed, all the things he needs to do his job are provided by the office, he should NOT be making money on the side, people don't give presidents or vice presidents money because they want to hear them talk, they do it because they want favours from him...that is bribery.
and if not being able to enrich yourself off the office prevents some people from seeking the office, they are probably not the people we want in office to begin with.
The issue isn't that a president makes money while in office but that he would use that power and influence for personal gain, like Biden did and isn't getting prosecuted for.

One problem with govt officials profiting off of their positions is lobbyists...they will pay officials to make laws that benefit their causes and corporations. So, instead of working for us, the citizens, they're working for lobbyists.
Lobbyists actually write or help wright a lot of laws, supposedly because they have a greater understanding of the issue. If the congress person or senator is ethical this can streamline the issue and bring good information and perspective to the table. Unfortunately, these possible benefits require genuine ethical collaboration and due diligence on the part of our elected officials. If you think that’s rare, I believe you would be correct. Money talks!

Originally politicians would only be paid a small stipend for their time in office. They were expected to be self sufficient business owners or farmers. It's called "service to your country" for a reason. You should never be profiting from the office at any station.
