This kind of thing works well for bashing too. Allows you to run a heavier oil for big air but still allows shock rebound to not be overly sluggish or compensating by using really stiff springs so it's like driving a brick around the rest of the time. Hope they have different diameter pistons for various usages.

I was thinking about this idea for rock crawlers. This is a really cool implementation..

Are these still available? I just ordered some vrp pistons but wouldn’t mind trying these

I have the TLR 8ight XE-Elite and got the MIP High Flow piston kit but am having issues with installation in my kit, I am not sure if I have optional equipment or Different shock shafts? that is causing the issue, the shock shafts seem to be different then the kit is set up for, I have allen bolts to hold on my pistons as opposed to the shaft being threaded for a nut. When I screw it down, the valve seems to be cupped some and I do not think the system is working correctly based on the feel of the shaft when compressed and rebounded.

When and why would you want faster rebound? In what conditions? Would you set up rebound differently for a rough track vs a smooth high speed track?

You want a faster rebound on rough tracks so you can get the tires back down onto the track quickly after a bump. Look up Adam Drake's video on the MIP bypass 1 pistons. He talks about the changes you would want to make based on conditions.

Now MIP you need to make a KIT for 13mm pistons

Would like to try these out but need sum information I have kyosho mp9tki3 an use 1x3x8 tapered shock piston an 45wt oil in front an 40 in rear would I have to drill bigger holes

What part number do I need get 6 hole bypass 1 pistons for associated RC8B3.1 ? I only see 8 hole on amain.

What I'm understanding is that these work opposite from an actual car shock. On cars the spring takes the force upwards and the shock slows the rebound. On RC cars, traditional shocks control both directions equally. These shocks allow for a control of the rebound by changing the disks. I'm confused. Why would you want a faster rebound (extension) than compression? It seems the auto industry would have figured out the best way, right? Isn't the best traction achieved when extension is slower than the compression? As I said, that's how auto shocks work.

positive, I didn't understand either.... in my opinion, that thin washer should be placed before the piston, in this way, the shock absorber when shrinking would be faster, and when decompressing it would be slower, avoiding the loss of contact between the tire and the ground

Hold on so the kit does not contain smaller and larger dia washers? THe washer is considered the clamp. The last shim that the previous can deflct over. Larger washer means slightly stiller rebound and small means lighter......I came from the word of MX suspension where shim stacks control the comression and rebound and you can tune for high speed and low speed .
Really suprised RC shocks/suspension is so outdated

Could I use these on Traxxas grr shocks? Also what piston hole setup would you recommend for 100 to 150mph speed runs?

These are only for the line of Mugen 1/8th Scale Vehicles

Can you name any pros that actually use them for any race event ? Did Drake or Mayfield use them in the world's ?

    • @MIPonline

Adam Drake and Ryan Maifield use the MIP Bypass1™ Pistons. They most notably used them during 1/8th scale worlds last year.
