Hi Adam. What is your default setup in the MBX8 ECO for piston holes and valves? Do you run the base piston setup as in the nitro buggy or is it different?
Hi Adam, love the info , I seen that mc2 came out with zps shock caps where they eliminate the shock bladder, what would be an advantage for that ? Thanks for your time
Hi Adam love your videos dont stop .Ihave a 8 hole kit for my mbx8 nitro buggy and plan to start with the blue and green valves. What oil weight would you suggest i first set them up with. The track is loose with a few nasty bump sections. The track has some tight turns but no real big jumps in it.Would you use M2C shock caps or are the factory caps more suited for the rebound of the valves.Iwould liketry a 6 hole kit but they are hard to get hold of in Australia.
Hello Mark, I would start by drilling 4 holes in each of the pistons to 1.3mm and keeping 4 of the holes at the stock 1.2mm. Depending on the temperature and grip level, you'll want to be in the 550-600 range in the front and 450-500 range in the rear. We run the stock caps and bladders for pretty much all conditions.
are the mbx6t shock bodies the same diameter as the 7and 8 series mugens? mip had this concept out since the 90's, i used them on my lxt and they worked great, the design was different though being a two piece hard piston with the insert opening and closing.
Stacking thinner shims to match a theoretical thicker shim won’t create the effects of the thicker shim. “The ohlins guy” TH-cam channel explains why and provides the formula to calculate the shim thickness to achieve that effect. Very cool rc mod!
Hi Adam can you share some tips on how to keep my tools from rusting? I got high humidity in my location and seems like bolts and screw and tools are rusting even the brand one like hudy and arrowmax
Most tools should have a coating , but with steel screws and steel tolls they'll rust if they don't have a type of coating. Wiping everything down with WD40 will help.
I would start with the same number of holes and size holes you currently run with standard pistons, but with clear valves in the front and blue valves in the rear.
Hi, would you be able to give the exact diameters of those pistons in millimetres, tried to find the info but it seems no one knows. I'd like to fit them to a kyosho. Thanks in advance
@@AdamDrake thanks Adam, in fact I got an answer from mip and at the very moment they are working on kyosho pistons and they should be available pretty soon as well as for other brands.
If the engine is in good shape other then being low on compression, sleeve resizing works great when it done correctly. I offer this service. adamdrake117@gmail.com
Good information, appreciate your videos even these older ones 👍
Glad you like them!
Ok im sold... Great info and detailed review.
My pleasure!
That's a cool Futaba sticker!!
LOL. Factory.
FUTABA ;) Love it
It's an awesome radio. :)
Crazy variation, my head is spinning with thought, ha. More pistons to throw $$ at. I am glad MIP finally made them available for 1/8 scale tho.
They work great.
Currently use a different brand of valve pistons. Really like the results.
Nice, which brand?

send me an email to adrake@mugenracing.com and I'll send you over my standard set-ups for both vehicles.
Im interested to see the difference in performance against vrp pistons which has almost the same concept
Yes, similar concept, but with the MIP Bypass1 your able to tune the rebound a lot more.
So many awesome choices!! We're getting super high lvl tuning in every aspect now! So cool !! Not as cool as that new Sponsor decal tho haha !
:)

I prefer the stock cap and bladders.

@@AdamDrake Well Adam i did what you suggested and what a big difference it made.
We tested after the race and let me tell you it would have lapped the field.
Good explanation thank you.

MBX6 and MBX7 has 15mm shock bodies. The MBX7R and MBX8 has 16mm. Yes, they work awesome.
Hey Adam, are you still doing the EBIS break in? I have a picco that needs to be broken in. If you are interested let me know what my next step is.
Yes sir! Please feel free to email me at adamdrake117@gmail.com

@@AdamDrake yeah they do have a coating but the hex tip do not have a coating. So the tip is the obly thing thay rust

What piston and valve setup would you suggest for smooth high grip Astro. I’ve bought the full set 6&8 hole.
I would start with the same number of holes and size holes you currently run with standard pistons, but with clear valves in the front and blue valves in the rear.
Adam Drake Thanks

Adam what springs are you using with part number for 8T front and rear?
E0574 and E0577.
Thank you sir!

Is the rebound speed linear or progressive depending on shock speed or shock stroke?
If the shock speed is quicker, the rebound speed will be slightly quicker.

Mugen pistons are a slight larger diameter then most pistons, but they'll work in any 16mm shock body as long as they'll fit on the shock shaft.

@@AdamDrake , thanks Adam for being who you are and taking time to answer questions. Great fan of your driving and your soul.
Thank you very much!
Hey adam, do u mind showing us how u built ur shocks with the bypass pistons, many thank
Yes, I'll add that to my video list.
1 more question Adam, which valve for both front n rear did u guys used at IFMAR WC in perth?
Clear front and Blue rear.
Why did they decide to make the TLR pistons round and not octagon like the others?
All of the 1/8th MIP pistons are round.
www.amainhobbies.com/gmk-supply-hole-thing-metric-shock-piston-drill-set-gmk0108/p7599
Will MIP be making these of Xray?
Yes, I believe they plan to have them for all makes and models.
Are this Mugen specific?
They should work with any 1/8th vehicle that uses a 3.5mm shock shaft and 16mm shock body.
Do these flaps have a life? Aka do they wear out?
They do last a very long time, but it's something to keep an eye on. The thinner the flap, the more often they'll need to be replaced.
What do you think of the os vzb v spec ii
It's a nice engine, but I prefer the OS Speed B21 Adam Drake engine.
@@AdamDrake i got it with a used revo so i kinda did not have a choiche lol also whats your opinion on sleeve pinching i am thinking about it

Will Amain have these?
Yes sir.
What's the shaft hole diameter? 3.5mm?
Mugen shocks use a 3.5mm shock shaft.
If there's anything to 'em they would do a double blind lap times test...
:)
a friend i race with says remove the shock boots for it prevents the piston to move freely ,,is that true...
I always use shock bots for 1/8th racing.
