I enjoy watching your videos because you make things seem possible. And I love to see a person using up scraps! I'm never gonna be a homesteader and I don't even eat chicken but I come here to watch the positive stuff you do. Thanks for that!
I love bird's singing. Yes, when the frog's talk. Spring's Coming ❗👍 We're still Cold. Trying to snow again. Thank you JASON. LOVE. YOUR VLOGS. CHOW 🀄🛐✝️🌴🤟👍🌻❤️🌹🥀
Your comment section says it all. We all love your family and you’re loving care! You are not challenged by upstaging another because it’s just not important. God bless‼️
I love your videos!!! You don’t constantly repeat yourself you explain while you work ! I need to make a brooder this month so your timing ⏱️ was perfect!!!!!!
Jason, love how you build things, great info for a 58 year old homesteader who misses her daddy every day. He could build anything, and I try to remember what he did, but he died in '91. The memory ain't what it used to be baby. And the frogs, oh Lord! No doubt, I had a friend visiting last spring, and as we went into the house they were like, "what is that noise?" I said what noise? Was the frogs, they had never heard it before, cracked me up, I told them they needed a country life.
Jason, great idea to put the brooders in the smaller building. It would be fun to name the new hatchery and maybe Penelope can paint a sign. How about The Hatchery House or The Hatchery Hut. Your followers would send in a lot of fun name suggestions. 🥰🥰🥰🥰
Jason I believe both your short term and long term solutions are spot on. I really like your new brooder. Getting it high off the floor is really going to frustrate the rats. They don't like having open areas like that, no hiding places. AND it's going to be a lot easier on your back, especially as you get older working with the chick's. Well done. I'd love to get those plans if you make them available. 👍😁🐣🐤🐥
Jason, you had me from the video where you said it has to look good too!! I appreciate the fact that you and your wife keep things looking nice and neat. Also, that you are confident enough to be silly if you want to be. Blessings to you and your family!!
Always miss seeing your videos! Look for them every day lol 😆 So when one comes out everything stops till I watch! Always puts me in a great mood! Y'all are awesome.
Man, I just built a brooder VERY similar to yours with the same, drop down wall feature for easy clean out! You did a nice job! Predators are the reason you don't use a big stall as a brooder. It's way too hard to rat/raccoon/mink proof it. The other issue is mess. Chicks create an enormous amount of dust/dander that gets all over EVERYTHING. Your barn would be covered in the stuff and it gets all over your equipment/wood/tools, etc. The best solution is a dedicated, outdoor set up for brooding. I haven't gotten there yet because it's a big commitment to do. Also, I just got one of those milwaukee narrow crown staplers too! I used it to put up insulation in a workshop, but I found it's awesome for hardware cloth like you mentioned. Very happy with it.
That really is the beauty of the seasons in nc. Just when you are getting tired of one, it switches. I’ve been here 22 yrs and can’t see myself leaving.
Wow, I really like the way you designed the brooder for the meat balls! I like that draw latch and how simple it will be to clean it out. Nice job Jason! It was fun to watch you build it. It should work well for you in the shed where you want to raise the meat birds. They will be protected from the rats. I had mice chew through the OSB I had for my chicken brooder so I had to put plywood up to cover the holes they had chewed in it.
Excellent job! The small part of the top that wasn't screened would have been great for it to be hinged so that when you feed and pull the waterer in and out you wouldn't have to take the entire roof off. Those chicken babies like to jump!
Nice to use flooring that can be easily cleaned! Cog hill put sand on the floor and vinyl walls too. Looks so cute and easy to clean. Yours is going to be so nice!! 👍🏻
As you know, in SoCal we can not hear the animals or bugs due to Sirens, Gunfire and road noise. I am so happy you got to take you family away to a homestead. Love you all from the city of constant noise. :-)
Hi, Jason! You are so creative! You make really nice structures from what some people would regard trash. You are organized and your projects are always finished off nicely. You can’t build anything. I enjoy watching your construction videos.
Great brooder box Jason- you are a magician. I loved the look on your face when you were testing that new latch- it was like a kid in a Lolly Shop. Cheers Denise -Australia
A good job, those chicks will like it. I remember ordering 200 chicks as a 12 year old, I was listening to my crystal radio one night, and heard an ad for baby chicks at a penny each, I miss those days, and those prices.
Love your channel Jason. Think I'm going to borrow your ideas and redo the enclosure for my pots. The flimsy hoops and screen did not stand up to the snow. Thanks for the ideas.
Jason, I love the way you think and plan ahead while still using up scraps of things layin around. That's some ice looking flooring. So easy to clean. Love the frogs. They tell you spring is really close. That brooder is both attractive and very functional. You can share more frogs anytime
It’s great to see hOW you have increased in your comfort level in front of the camera. I have watched you since you first started your channel and your amazing woodworking skills and video skills are definitely appreciated! Tim in northern TN
Jason just love your sense of humor! The new brooder looks good, will you put legs on your red brooder? I agree with you about keeping the large barn animal free, if possible, you do do a lot of work & classes in there. TFS
I love your videos. You have so much information, and some comedy with it. I love the sound of frogs in the Spring!! Makes me feel so happy that Winter is coming to an end.
That is a really nice brooder. I am so happy you found some vinyl for the flooring, it will really be a help on clean up day. Thanks for sharing this build. Y'all have a Blessed day.
We have been hearing the frogs and crickets too. We love it when we start hearing them and the excitement of spring coming. It seems really really early this year.
I had my chicks in a stable for a few years with no problems but last year rats found them and took every one of them. I made a temporary brooder to put in the stall for the replacement chicks last year. This year, I'm working on another that I'm building on an old trailer bed. The plan is to use it as a mobile coop for some of my egg layers in the back field after the chicks are out of it. That's the plan anyway...time will tell. 😊
Love your channel. I’m anxious to see how the grass grows this spring after the animals have been fertilizing this last year. Best wishes for a great season ahead. 🐥❤️😁
Those little frogs are called "spring peepers". Also you might consider a multilayer gravel floor (large stone then fine packable stone on top) with vinyl chicken wire between gravel layers and geotextile underneath. I think gravel is far more rodent proof and cheaper than a concrete slab. Rats tend to make cities under the concrete and it is really hard to get them out once they do.
Jason, I think people were referring to you using the whole stall as a brooder area, not just a room to keep small brooders in. We did that and it worked great. Depending on how many chicks you have you just increase the # of lamps you use in different areas so they don't over-crowd. You could raise more than you need in one of those stalls. Thanks for sharing.
I am convinced. Jason, you can build anything. So appreciate you and Lorraine AND Penelope! Prayers for continued health and happy homesteading.
I enjoy watching your videos because you make things seem possible. And I love to see a person using up scraps!

Jason sometimes you are such a homesteading nerd. I see why she keeps you around, truly a jack of all trades
Jason, you are a great example to the generations of people who dream of doing what you are doing. Wonderful legacy!
Yes the sounds of the land!!! Like the whistle song! 🏞️🌌🐸🐤🐥🐦

I too love the sound of the frogs in the evening here in Texas ❤
Good day from Kamakura, Japan! 🇯🇵 Yes Jason, the sound of frogs in early spring is wonderful! Good job on the chicken coop! 🤩👍🏾👏🏾
Have a nice day! Thanks
Hello Kamakura Japan. I hope you are having an awesome day. 💫🌞
Great job, there's always something to build on a homestead, especially when getting more animals!
I love your videos!!! You don’t constantly repeat yourself you explain while you work ! I need to make a brooder this month so your timing ⏱️ was perfect!!!!!!

I too love the frogs, we still have a couple months.
Always a great video, and I appreciate your quirky humor. Always smiles.
I love it when the “peepers” come out.

You are always amazing to watch building a project. I admire people that can build anything with little to no training.
great job Jason im sure the chicks will love it hugsssss from Canada
Jason, are you sure you weren't a carpenter in another life? Nice job on the chicken brooder.

You are the master builder, Jason. Your brooders are solid and easy to use and attractive. Stay warm this weekend. 💖
Jason just love your sense of humor! The new brooder looks good, will you put legs on your red brooder? I agree with you about keeping the large barn animal free, if possible, you do do a lot of work & classes in there. TFS
That's the plan!
Very cool brooder! Also enjoyed the frogs! Thank you!
Good tips on this video
Great build from your scrap pile.

We have been hearing the frogs and crickets too. We love it when we start hearing them and the excitement of spring coming. It seems really really early this year.
Weasels can come through a knot hole. I used the wire with tiny little squares and enclosed the hole area inside with it. Even the ceiling
I was freaked out when I saw my bulbs already popping through the mulch. I’m in 7b, it’s to early!! But it makes me excited
Thanks for these instructional videos! I can’t keep brooding birds in my bathroom! 😂
Cool project! The wheels arrived today for the laying hen tractor I got plans from you for. Keep up the good work!

It looks great I like that you dont have to bend so much...
Love watching you build stuff. Wish I was thst talented. I'm hammer, nails, duck tape and twine girl...lol.
I love your innovation and enthusiasm when you tackle a new project👍
Jason, you look the healthiest that I’ve seen you in ages!👋
Great project. I too love the sounds of the land, I actually heard A frog in my front yard in Dec.
I like that broader too 😄 haha happy chickens 👍🤗❤
Lovely brooder Jason.
You guys are loved!! All that you do is good!!
Love your humor.
Nice job Jason
Love your channel. I’m anxious to see how the grass grows this spring after the animals have been fertilizing this last year. Best wishes for a great season ahead. 🐥❤️😁
Hello, Jason. Do you have critters that burrowed under your barn still? Will they be featured in a catch, clean, and cook video?
Raccoon steaks coming right up!
Nice job man!
Love watching you build things!
You make everything look so easy .

Love your humor 😊
Really enjoy watching you all💕
Long way to our season changes up here in Alberta Canada 🇨🇦
Sound of the life
Looks great Jason 🌵🤠
Thats a beautiful brooder! Good Job!
Nice job! You always do a great job on your farm.
Hardware is lovely! God bless
Your spring peepers are a month or so ahead of us in Western Pennsylvania.
Have no fear Jason is here
Jason, I think people were referring to you using the whole stall as a brooder area, not just a room to keep small brooders in. We did that and it worked great. Depending on how many chicks you have you just increase the # of lamps you use in different areas so they don't over-crowd. You could raise more than you need in one of those stalls. Those brooders will see good off season use I am sure. Onion drying, work surface, mini greenhouse for herbs by the door...
I enjoy watching your videos.
