Drinkers drink for all kinds of reasons. It's important to not be simplistic or dismissive of the suffering it may come from. Some people may be optimistic but feel too sensitively to take the harsh light and sounds of everyday. And taking drugs regularly does not necessarily mean they're a miserable addict.
If you are touring and entertaining, then there will be drinking, and there will be drugs and women placed in the palm of your hand on a fairly regular basis. Hard to avoid even at low levels of local venue performance, it just goes with the territory. It's amazing any of them survive.
This human being must be preserved at all cost!!!
absolutely love tom waits everything about him
Someone told me yesterday I have a problem I needed to hear this!
Never really liked his music but I'm a fan of him as a man. A true original , a total rebel, and a real free thinker.
My feelings exactly.
He’s literally just a drug addict. Being from Massachusetts i know many dudes just like this. Degenerate alcoholic and drug addicts that just get fucked up all day every day. But i guess if youre not famous being a drug addict is bad.
My favorite album by him is debut album Closing Time and it’s only album that sounds “normal” but that’s not why I like it, the production complements his voice anyway he has some solid albums definitely not for everyone but check out the one just mentioned
Are you dead inside? Not intentionally being rude. Just wondering. When you hear his stuff, doesn't some part of you move?
@@mimim7026 I like a lot of music , heard quite a few of his songs and only a couple really got me at all cant recall titles but I know beavis and butt head watched the video for one.
An artist of the highest caliber. The piano has been drinking ,not me. Genius who can succeed at everything or nothing simultaneously. A real inspiring human man. And he believes in the Creator, last I heard.
Before they welcome Tom on the stage, Tom waits.
Tom Waits for no man
I'll give u your damn like. Snuck a laugh outta me
Like Juaquin?
Wow, that's a new one... smh
Just take your like and leave me alone
That’s a talented guy, he plays his outstanding role 24-7-365. I had the first meeting with Tom Waits back in 1988, that means I saw his outstanding movie, story, dream, drama, cirkus etc. etc. “BIG TIME”, and I was completely lost. Since then, now 36 years😅, I have followed this outstanding performer and his very speciel ways of doing his job so briilant and speciel. Tom Waits is suddenly one of a kind❤
My dad turned me into his music when I was a kid. I'm 43 now. Loved "the piano has been drinking"
Your dad sounds like a magician, I wish I could be turned into a Tom Waits song
@@sillygoober698 haha... yea, he was awesome. My first "concert" was a pink Floyd laser show. Lol.

You don't decide anything anyway. There is no differecen between youtube serving you content and you waiting to your thoughts to figure something out. You don't control what thought will pop in your mind. Nor weather you like it or not. It just happens just like yt algo.
yoooyoyooo you just burst his bubble I'm reporting you
You e surpassed anyone with most TH-cam watched clips. That was my goal in 2006
He’s so chaotic and I aspire to be at his level of outlandishness
I’d love to know if he prepares this stuff at home like comedians or if it just comes to him in the moment lmao One of the funniest guys I’ve seen
"How do you feel".."O i feel better than nothin" 😆 classic
“Well it was a choice between entertainment, and a career in organized crime in Gotham city.”
"You wanna know how I got these scars?"
It's absolutely stunning how Heath managed to recreate Tom's voice wow respect to both
Thank you so much where are you writing from?
That's one of Steve Martin's old lines from one of his early comedy albums "Let's Get Small" around 1978. I like it.
I haven't taken drugs in my whole life and this guy is already my spiritual animal.
Imagine how would it be if you did... (just saying, good job for not doing...)
tom waits for nothing and nobody
More important endeavors await sir Thomas
No. For the devil himself.
GOOD ONE
Blank on blank
I'm no lunatic man. I'm a sane man fighting for his soul
Big fan of the great Mr Waits here, he's one of a kind genius in every way
"My father was an exhaust manifold. My mother was a tree"
DEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEP
I took it as his father was a mechanic and mother was a stay at home mom.
@@-KillaWatt- take it as his mom was a lovely, peaceful person bringing life to his life! and his father suffocated her...get it?!
"I worry primarily about whether there are nightclubs in heaven" this man's in my brain
Have never seen him before but i must say he's a pro at making conversation interesting...
The delivery of that "Christ" response was perfect 😂😂 01:25
"I'd rather have a bottle in front of me than a frontal lobotomy." Awesome wordplay and potentially potent lyrics for a song! It also means something deeper. That he would come up with the line in an instant really shows his genius wit.
He didn't. It's a really old well known saying.
@@frikinfrogs considering how many people in this comment section don't know this "saying", I'd say it's not that well known. Also, sayings are supposed to mean something, while this just sounds vaguely similar to each other

Nah dude. Nate Diaz moves around and has the body language of Tom Waits.

I think it was his escape from reality that made him such a brilliant song writer.
Escaping reality allows you to observe it objectively for once.
Tom seems very detached from reality and his surroundings 😅
Thank god we financially support people just for existing...
"I worry primarily about whether there is Nightclubs in heaven". I hear you Tom.
I never heard of this guy before but I admire his philosophy on life.
Life is about experiencing things for me, and the more I experience, the happier I am.
Drugs simply offer me the chance to experience more.
Ní Síocháin Gan Saoirse true but experiences also have consequences.
@@Alaric33 absolutely right buddy. Absolutely right.
Someone of us accept the consequences of our lifestyle choices, and some dont. I have to be honest and say some of my consequences have been incredibly difficult to process, but the overall experience I gain from psychedelics far outweigh the negatives for me, but that's just me. Others not so much.

@Arbar ok siegmund
This is Good . He's been cool throughout & I think many people doesn't know he left Drugs afterwards .
Well at the end of the day , there's Night .
I was wrong about his parents. I always thought his dad was a gravel truck and I believe his mom was tree... The tree from the The Legend of Sleepy Hollow.
"I think for a brief time, everyone's lived in a car" lmao
I can totally see this guy saying "It's simple. We need to kill The Batman"
It's funny how the crowd's laugh faded away faster with that line than every other lines.
They were expecting the reveal.
“I worry about a lot of things but I don’t worry about achievement” and he was still more successful than any of these motivational gurus
Think, observe, learn, be yourself, be honest with yourself - that's what I get from his art.
Tony Robbins calls him for advice.
Being addicted to drugs isn't a win in my book but to each their own I guess.
1:42 "My father...waaaas...a drinker, and a fiend"
Hahahaha
Dude he's so funny. I love Tom Waits. "I'm a Methodist" lmfao
This man is pure charisma
I probably own everything he's ever recorded, but he does try a little too hard to be "cool".
same here
I don't think he tries
It definitely is put on. People aren't born wearing weird, old-fashioned, beat, working-class style hats. But it doesn't bother me with Tom. Even if it's put on, it at least comes from somewhere genuine, I think. I mean, every single thing about Bob Dylan is phony and not even genuine at all beyond fame- and fortune-seeking self indulgency, but no one seems to give a shit about that.
You sure people aren't born wearing hats?
His singing voice is stylised,it's a put on,there's a term for his vocal style but,I don't remember.Captain Beefheart used the same technique.
''My dad was an exhaust manifold and my mother was a tree''
Gold.
:p
Tom always looks like, where ever he just came from was a very satisfying experience.
Reality is for people who can’t face drugs, He had me there.

There's so much in just this video that probably goes over my head more than I am aware of.

Tom Waits was straight deep and a lot of those audience members didn't see that at all.
