As a Cab driver I had the Honor of picking this man up at his traveling bus in back of a night club. He was drunk as hell but his personality was the same as sober. Great. Face him a 70 mile ride and will say enjoyed every mile of his company
The year was 1973 and I was a long haired, pot smoking, die hard Rock n Roll fan. None of my friends could understand why I would "waste my money" on a pair of Jerry Reed tickets. I just smiled knowingly, ended up going alone and had a blast. Music is like the worlds greatest buffet. Don't be the guy who just eats the shrimp.
it's refreshing to see this kinda attitude instead of the usual "MUSIC THESE DAYS JUST DON'T COMPARE" blah blah nonsense you see in the comments on music from previous decades. In the 1970s, Jerry and Glen were progressive country, spreading happiness and good times. I guess people aren't all bad.
That's possible, Jerry appreciated the the notoriety he got courtesy of Burt Reynolds but I think he got tired of the whole Hollywood thing and wanted to get back to just being a pure guitar player
But then progressive country anything was more true to its roots and even rock-a-billy than Nashville ever was. Hence, Jerry Reed in a sense was a lamppost for progressive country if not consciously a part. He was always his own man.
And then the Eagles happened. They had some decent rock songs, but their influence on country music became the popularized version of today and turned country music into some of the worst pop music imaginable.
@@markboland8197 It really is astonishing how bad country music is now. If you like Jerry as Snowman check out another movie he's in with Robin Williams and Walter Matthau. It's from the '80's and called Survivors. Reed plays a great role. Imagine Snowman as a hitman. Legendary.
Chet, Roy and Glen were great guitar pickers, but Jerry was in a class of his own. Jerry didn't show it as much here, but I've seen him do amazing things on a guitar.
Those two....I'm not sure which one makes it look easier. Jerry cracks me up - most people don't have a clue of his playing ability. I could listen to these two go back and forth for the rest of my life.

Damn I'm glad to have been alive during this great musical time in history
Sublime. From here in the UK, I've long admired Glen's music and guitar playing. But I only knew Jerry Reed as Snowman in Smokey & the Bandit. Then a few years back I learned he was a C&W singer. But only a few weeks ago I heard his guitar work! Holy Moly, he must have been up with the very best. RIP Glen and Jerry
John Charlton: Exactly how I feel. These guys are two of my all-time favorites, and there will never be anyone like them.
Jerry didn't show it as much here, but I've seen him do amazing things on a guitar.
jerry had it all. looks, terrific voice and guitar player.
+Margaret Brown and charm!
Those two....I'm not sure which one makes it look easier. Jerry cracks me up - most people don't have a clue of his playing ability. I could listen to these two go back and forth for the rest of my life.
RIP Jerry Reed and now, one of my all-time favorite artists, Glen Campbell. :(
Damn, what a supreme pleasure watching those two American greats play together. If only I could have been there to watch it live.
It breaks my heart where Glen is now, and that Jerry is gone. This duet of Southern Nights is the best I ever heard.
I have to smile when I see some people posting comments about auto-tune and such. First, there weren't no such thing back then and second, they didn't need it! This was a world previous to recording trickery, you know, when talent reigned supreme.
Everybody dies, but few have their music live on like these guys. God bless Glen.
Brilliant guitar plying.
This is faaaaaaaaaantastic!!!! Yeeeeeeeeeehhhhhhhhhhhaaaaaaaaa!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Greetings from Poland!
How Ya'll doin over yonder? How's ya Mama an them!!!! Purty Country ya got there Jaroslaw!!! Minds me of NE Georgia in parts!
Gerald Reed! A True American Treasure! Never really got the full recognition that he rightfully deserved, Never in the spotlight always under the Radar, But he would have wanted it that way! Extraordinary talent RIP The Golden Claw
It's amazing how many people didn't know how good these two were. In the early 70's I had an album by Chet and Jerry. I still remember the album cover, an old car, and Jerry is changing a flat tire and Chet is sitting on a fender playin guitar. Good stuff.
live guitar and the best.We miss talent !
I think this is the most upbeat version I've ever heard of this song.
Every time I pass the Y.M.C.A here in downtown Memphis I think of this song I swear on a stack of bible's it's true R.I.✌️Mr. Jerry Reed 🎸
IT DON'T GET MUCH BETTER THAN THIS !!!!!
