You sure about the timing? That would be 1983. The only thing I found with Jerry Reed and Glen Campbell together around that time is the The Glen Campbell Music Show which was done indoors on a stage, and from a screenshot, it looks like Glen had less grey in his beard compared to what he looks like when this was filmed.
I was thinking the same thing that would have been something real real special a gift from God to be there at that place and time. You know Reed was down there fishing that lake too!
This, and the time he played it’s live with Leon Russell for TV. Leon on keys, and it was amazing! Only thing I’d have done differently was make it a duet between Glenn & Leon. This is it: th-cam.com/video/BTgAWd6V2Jo/w-d-xo.html

Laura Kirk 2 of the best guitarists this world will ever know... and both vastly underrated IMHO....yes, I feel so sad about Glen and miss Jerry.... wooooo!! tears.......
The two of them together is simply magical. The swagger of Jerry, the virtuoso that's Glen--when they got together there was truly nothing like it. You can always see Jerry complimenting Glen and taking second chair, and Glen always loving playing with Jerry by the expression on his face. Damn that's good.
The lilt of the song does indeed give one a view that nights down in the summer areas of the South have a musical quality. It is uplifting and in NC, Fla. I have experienced them and now at 81 I still remember tho I live now in the soviet republic of Ca
alex isaacs the guy who wrote it Allen Toussaint pretty much is a musical God, one of the greatest ever to come out of New Orleans. People don’t know this was a soul ballet that Glen covered into a country song, pretty cool.
Except that Mr. Toussaint's rendition of his song was smooth and melodic and didn't really contain the Dixieland whimsy you referred to. In all honesty, I like Allen Toussaint's version a lot, but I *LOVE* Glen's version. The Dixieland Whimsy (outstanding description, BTW) is what speaks to me. Another song he sped up was "Galveston." Jimmy Webb's version was slower and more somber in tone. I don't think Mr. Toussaint or Mr. Webb had a problem with Glen's tweaking of their songs. He made them the $ucce$$e$ they became. For the record, "Southern Nights" is my favorite of Glen Campbell's hits. This is my favorite version of this song.
Music. As it was meant to be. It makes you close your eyes, sing along and smile. The kind of music that soothes your soul. Not to mention watching two of the finest pickers the world has ever known just having fun.
Thank you Lord for Glen Campbell, what an incredible song! While wearing his state shirt too! Just letting people know that somebody made one hell of a statement from Arkansas besides Johnny Cash for his career! I wouldn't trade southern nights in this great state of mine for any other

Hey , Sivana - I'm kinda an old guy ( 81 ) and that's how long I've been listening to , and playing -mostly Country . At 17 , you have plenty of time to learn whatever you wish to play . Always remember what Chet Atkins said one time : If I don't play my guitar every day , it forgets who I am ! Hope to see you on U-tube , or better yet , Television before I die !
Thank you Mr. Hobbs, I will practice my guitar as much as I can. And maybe someday I'll play this song too. I hope you see me on youtube or television before you die too. Thanks again.
The highlight for me on "The Glen Campbell Goodtime Comedy Hour" was whenever Jerry Reed stopped by. It was his appearances that led to his own summer replacement series. Burt Reynolds was a fan of Jerry's music and was surprised at how funny Jerry was. It's said that the summer replacement show convinced Burt to cast Jerry in "W.W. and the Dixie Dance Kings". And the rest, as they say, is history.
Rip Glen and Jerry.

This is a real guy and the whole team accompanies him to perfection! I would have loved to be there so thank you for sharing this gem!! And the sound is impeccable.
PS I used a translator 😉
Could you imagine being there? What a great time that must have been. I agree, both are underrated.
You recall where this was shot at?
Glen Campbell one of the finest musicians in any genre. I grew up listening to wonderful songs such as Galveston, Rhinestone Cowboy and of course Southern Nights. Thank you Glen it was a great privilege. My condolences to your family and may you rest in peace.
Look at Glenn rockin those daisy dukes! I don’t think they make men this confident anymore 😂😂 one of my favorite songs 🙌🏽 “feels so good, feels so good if I can wish I could stop this world from the fighting da dada da da.....” 🎶🎶
I remember when those short shorts for men were in style, and my nut sack would sometimes fall down and be visible.
Two great pickers.Glenn was rocking those cutoffs ....LOL
One of my all-time country songs. Nothing better than Southern nights!
I have it in my repertoire. Performed it last night, at the Sausalito Yacht Club ..😁
Now thats music and everybody is singing along and sniling.
Hello from freezing cauld auld Scotland 🏴 🇺🇸👍🏻😀
I come back to this almost daily. Having really rough day at work today, hanging my head in my hands trying to keep my composure. Just popped my headphones in, gonna listen to this and tune out the bullshit for a while
Jerry Reed wrote alot for many musicians ....❤🇨🇦🎶
I wish I could buy a CD with only this song on it, played by these two people, over and over. It makes my heart bleed for where Glen is now. And Jerry's gone.
Laura Kirk ~ and best of all...He ain't gonna miss us.
Laura Kirk 2 of the best guitarists this world will ever know... and both vastly underrated IMHO....yes, I feel so sad about Glen and miss Jerry.... wooooo!! tears.......
I wish Jerry had got the true credit he deserved for Guitar Man; better than the Elvis version...
There's a message in that fact...
get firefox and then download a you tube download app and it will be on your pc to do what you want to with it. that's what I did
The Groove on this is hot as hell.... Glen Campbell was so cool!
I think God could produce a song and someone would dislike it.
alex isaacs the guy who wrote it Allen Toussaint pretty much is a musical God, one of the greatest ever to come out of New Orleans. People don’t know this was a soul ballet that Glen covered into a country song, pretty cool.
He did, Alex: He produced the Psalms, and they say EVERYTHING ...about the Law; who likes law these days? Hey? Few.
Could be the devil voting

God created humans, they still hate each other
Broke my heart when I saw the headline the morning he passed 😢. RIP Glen
Those jorts are fucking legendary.
We are lucky to have this here. Thank you!
.....R.I.P., Allen (Toussaint) - THIS as much as ANY, was among your GREATS, and its Dixieland whimsy will live on FOREVER:(
+ogam5 This was supposedly his favorite composition.
A true genius he was
Except that Mr.
RIP Glenn. Thanks for the music and the memories.
I love you two to pieces, they don’t make people or authentic entertainers like you guys anymore, such talent!!!!!
Pure joy! I'll grab my picnic basket, Love them southern nights, Florida grown
The country swing is so much better then the original disco style. Amazing. I’ll comment 10,000 times if it takes that.
Glen's shorts really bring the song together.
Hey, guys, it doesn't get better than this. Brilliant! Bless them. RIP
Two of the greatest. Diggin' the shirt too. Go Hogs!
Somebody upload this whole special already!!!!
R.I.P Glenn Campbell! Thank you for you music
Music. As it was meant to be. It makes you close your eyes, sing along and smile. The kind of music that soothes your soul. Not to mention watching two of the finest pickers the world has ever known just having fun.
Wow! To have been in attendance for this concert in the park. Priceless.
Thank you Lord for Glen Campbell, what an incredible song! While wearing his state shirt too! Just letting people know that somebody made one hell of a statement from Arkansas besides Johnny Cash for his career! I wouldn't trade southern nights in this great state of mine for any other
Glenn was surely a man who knew how to keep both his guitar and balls close. Those pants - I love em! Can only be the 70’s
Walter Stuart 😜😊👍😎
Glen is showing off his moves!
Man, this is such a good song. And they are so good, if only I could play like Jerry Reed, and I am a youngster, I'm only 17 and I started listening to this stuff when I was 11, but I'm not really your average teenager.
They perform like brothers!
Great tune! x
Two absolutely incredible guitarist that most rock guitarist would have a difficult time keeping up with.
Bless Allen Toussaint for writing this classic song. Glenn made a great choice covering it and this performance is so much fun to listen to and watch!
Is this playback?
