    Matthew McConaughey: Real person who just happens to be an actor for a living. Who wouldn't if they could? I grew up in a farm community in the panhandle of Texas (Magahat country these days) but left, saw the world and other parts of the country and expanded my horizons. I recommend this for all panhandlers because they mostly only listen to each other. It is obvious that Matthew has expanded his horizons a bit since growing up and leaving Uvalde. How else could he have given such a heart rending account of what it is like to be from there and feel their their pain and know the outrage that real humans with a heart feel over these mass shootings? I felt his pain and had to fight back some tears during his speech. Much like I did during his closing argument in "A TIme to Kill". THAT one really got me even though it was just a movie. It plainly "got" Matthew too. His feelings seem to be a part of his life, acting or not. Kudos Matthew. You are not a robot (or a brainless follower).

      Well considering most of these school shootings have been committed with guns purchased legally that doesn’t make much sense. And why wait to have a discussion to keep the kids safe? Let’s have that conversation right now and work harder to enforce the current laws and put in place additional deterrents. Do all the things.

    • @DaWump
      @DaWump 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Warren's proposal to limit school shootings. Install "Sally Port" or "Man Trap" style entryways at all main entrances. Install exit only/key required/alarmed if left propped open exterior doors like hotels and hospitals have. Hire former US military or Retired LEO to randomly patrol school grounds and arm them appropriately for the task. Most importantly, fix our Country's broken mental health system. Start treating mental illnesses instead of just handing out pills and sending broken people on their way. Acknowledge that evil people do exist, and they should not be allowed to purchase weapons. Mandatory reporting by all to the NICS database by States and Cities is being ignored currently. Enforce and actually prosecute firearms crimes. Too many times our DA's and Courts dismiss these charges in plea deals letting offenders off.

    We have a federal background check, we already have red flag laws, we already have waiting periods.
    Mental health needs to be a bigger, laws preventing illegal firearms need to be stricter. But the main thing is mental, people don’t know how to act, deal with life’s issues and problems. People think changing who they are, delving into the digital world will make them better or get rid of depression or anger. If that isn’t checked, bad people will hurt people if they have they will, the Oklahoma City bombing years ago didn’t involve guns, it was a van and items from a farm and tractor store. If someone wants to hurt someone they will.

You make these people and their lives more real, in a way that few people can. People need understanding to care, and to care to create change. And it’s clear that you truly care. Many moons back, Charlie Sheen was on Piers Morgan’s show on CNN where they talked about guns. He was asked, somewhat rhetorically, what’s an AR-15 for/who would need it? And Sheen responded: those going to war.
      But, unfortunately, the US religious fundamentalism, including its fundamentalism for the second amendment, means that the best you can do is get a raising of the minimum age and perhaps the idea that such military grade weapons only go to those who are members of registered militias. And I can tell you right now even that won’t happen, given how gung ho the reactionary fire arms crowd is about its right to own anything, including a nuclear bazooka.

Further, productivity has no bearing on if he's correct or not, which he isn't, we are talking about a dude who worked in hollywood for decades, knew the dark underside, may not have participated but still kept quiet and allowed the abuse of child actors, weird sex parties, and the prostitution of young actresses to get roles, doesn't sound like a guy I would ever take any advice from, I may as well listen to Hunter Biden or his dad.

This isn't about preventing crime it's about disarming the law abiding citizens to remove the publics last check and balance in removing tyrannical governments or potential invasion. Remember the famous line from General Yamato during ww2 "we could never succeed in a mainland invasion, 'there's a rifle behind every blade of grass." This ability is the only real check and balance to keep us truly free in the even the government goes too far. For real, I was crying 😭 way up here in TN. My brother owns an AR-15, actually, several of them. 2 of them are stock, basically just a pistol with a stock and barrel. But, he's got one, that he admits is ridiculous. It's got a special barrel (which, like the uvalde shooter's) causes the bullets to become really powerful somehow, I think it somehow increases bullet speed or something, but makes a massive difference in the way the bullet hits a target to where it just destroys the target. Also has a $50-100 part which turns the gun into a full Auto, and another part that increases accuracy and reduces recoil. It's insane, it should be illegal, and in fact Virginia where he lives was in the process of making some of those mods illegal. Even he thinks it's too much for a citizen to have. I think these guns are very dangerous for several reasons. Someone purchasing a pistol should be able to get one after passing a background check. But someone purchasing one of these rifles needs training, classes, and range time before being allowed to own one. Also, make these gun parts and gun mods require the same background checks and training certificates as the guns themselves. Once you've done the training, and waited the required wait times, you can buy all the parts you want, even though some parts need to just be outlawed altogether, because it's these mods that are making these guns so damn dangerous. I also believe that people who own guns should be required to kill at least one deer per year. Why? Deer are becoming an invasive nuisance species all over the country, which is attributed to the fact that we have like 4 million less hunters than we had in the 70s. Why do I think people should kill an animal? Because seeing what a gun can do, shows how dangerous they are. It seems like a lot of people nowadays just don't realize what's actually going to happen when they pull the trigger. Either let them experience it first hand, or make them watch a graphic video of it during their gun training. Anyway, I don't know, maybe my ideas aren't perfect, but they're ideas, that's more than Washington has done so far for basically the last 30 years.

    Let there, indeed, be a Greenlight this time around. Thank you, Matthew, Camila and family for coming back to your hometown to co-create real change. It must, obviously, hit way too close to home to turn away. Having been affected by the Sandy Hook shooting in our neighboring town, with my own kids in lockdown, which has traumatized my daughter ever since and led her to having night terrors and recurring dreams of being shot, I truly hope your work here today will, indeed, keep the dreams and work of these amazing children and teachers alive. May peace and clarity somehow, some way find its way into the hearts of these families whose lives have been forever changed. It will be a long, long road, no doubt, but know that your work here today is bringing their humanity and their inspirations alive. May god help us all...

Removing one tool is not going to stop people from wanting to hurt and kill others. There will always be other tools and ways to kill people. You can run over an entire crowd of people with a car as we have recently seen. Guns are not the problem and creating more gun control laws will not help. Did you know that schools are gun-free zones? Yet, they bring the guns anyway. People will ALWAYS break the law. Why do people call the police when they are in trouble? Because they provide lethal defense for them. Good people with weapons stop bad people with weapons. Who ended up stopping the Robb Elementary School gunman? A good guy with a gun.

    Disappointed in you Matthew. Your speech about how you were introduced to weapons at a young age, and learned to be responsible with them, seems to me that right there is an argument in favor of EARLIER introduction of firearms to children so they all learn the power of them. Just like my son earned his rifle merit badge, shotgun merit badge, and safety around knives and fires in Boy scouts. He once found an axe on the way home from school. I'd much rather my son find it than some untrained, unbalanced kid. He's a first responder now. These mass events are basically people (males) taking their own lives and a few extras. It's a mental health suicide issue. As you should all know, if a person has decided to end their life, they will find a way to do it, using one method or another. No reason to punish all law abiding citizens for the actions of the suicidal ones. It's a reason to arm any school staff that wants that responsibility, start with the veterans, if they are mentally stable. There are parents and grandparents who would volunteer. Like that Texas church shooting that was stopped with a single headshot before it could have gotten much, much worse

      @@Blazntrax81 It truly isn't restrictive at all. Every one of our rights have limits, with guns being the least regulated at all. Tell me if any of these would truly *truly* would infringe on your rights:
      Register firearms and update every year, complete a training course for every new type of gun, still doing a background check even if you have a LTC, use a more thorough background check than the NICS, age limits, require insurance ... to name a few. Basically, exact same as your car.
      And before we say that bad people will still do bad things with guns, bad people still commit vehicular manslaughter. We aren't using that for denying regulating cars and maintaining them.

    • @Blazntrax81
      @Blazntrax81 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@boofriedmann2980 There are multiple background checks on any purchase, regardless of license to carry. Also, strong limitations for mentally unstable people to purchase. A registry would enable the government to come right to the home of whomever and confiscate every gun you own. If there were ever a need to stand up against a tyrannical government, you'd be powerless.
