If people would behave like they do in escrima in any open hand style they would be ridiculed but because there not alot of other knife styles public, people are easily wowed. I used to work out with Dolph in the 80s in LA at a Kyokushinkai school at the Beverly Hills YMCA. He is definitely the real deal. I studied his art after earning a 6th Dan in Taekwondo and have lots of respect for the art and his abilities. We had fun sparring each other.

He is demonstrating something for ppl never seen or interested in this after he had a period of drugs and alcohol abuse and now is in his 60s. If you have ever seen a teacher show new students some of the elements he is going to teach you ll have seen very slow moving already. So, your criticizm falls flat. And btw.: i m no fan. I dont like him as an actor, found the old videos of his tournaments not that convincing and have no position towards him as a person as i dont know him. And yet i dont think you should talk down to someone with that many titles and that ability shown.
I love how the lady performs Kata Gekisai Dai Ichi the traditional Okinawan Goju Ryu way while Dolph performs the kata the Kyokushin Japanese way. The applications (bunkai) are still the same and good for them for following their personal styles.

My very first Kyokushin lesson in 1983, the owner of the dojo (Saiko Shihan Shigeru Oyama) had Sensei Hans (he changed his name to Dolph when he started acting) give me a private lesson to get me introduced to the art. I remember thinking, “who the hell is this guy!!!”. He is a VERY large dude. He was super nice. Very patient and gave excellent instructions.
You can tell when he throws the punches that's not even 5% of his power...why Sly ended up in the hospital and Carl Weathers refused to reshoot some scenes because he hit too hard for real. Legit! Dude is worth around $14 million I believe so he definitely made the right choice to leave the Chemical Engineering field.
If you see this video today, he told in recent interviews that he went through some heavy shit all his live. He said he was doing drugs, girls, wasn't healthy and often an asshole and a bad father. The only sign for this, is his heavy breathing after a few moves...but you wouldn't have thought that. So, don't judge a book by the cover, also not if it's pretty and shiny. Respect to him, that he changed his life.

This was actually really cool to see him come out and do some demonstration he's been out of the game for a very long time still awfully limber doesn't have the stamina like he used to but he's not competing anymore.

And how that was embarrassing, since he supposedly isnt an active katateka anymore. But mentioned gratitude for being in the company of younger practitioners, who still represent karate. Then he mentioned how the 3 of them come from different styles of karate. Kyokushin (Dolph), Goju Ryu (the girl), Shotokan (the boy). Then some basic description of karate in general. And then some explanation of the techniques they were demonstrating... and complimenting the show host on her form. 😄

Dolph did Kyokushinkai karate. This is the most physical and full contact of all the karate disciplines.
Yes it´s a very intense style, i trained it for about 3 years until i started Muay Thai.

And how that was embarrassing, since he supposedly isnt an active katateka anymore.
But mentioned gratitude for being in the company of younger practitioners, who still represent karate.
Then he mentioned how the 3 of them come from different styles of karate. Kyokushin (Dolph), Goju Ryu (the girl), Shotokan (the boy).
Then some basic description of karate in general. And then some explanation of the techniques they were demonstrating... and complimenting the show host on her form. 😄
