It's incredible--I saw it ages ago on cable and came in on the bit where the toad is in a crate, and then it cuts to the toad's POV. In that moment, I knew this was a movie for me.
Watched Cane Toads: An Unnatural History in my Biology 20 class one day when we had a sub. No one was laughing except me and my friends because they couldn't figure out if it was serious or not. It is SO FUNNY.
you should really try seeing the cane toad doc, then. it's hilarious, as well as informative. and there are songs. as you might imagine, any song about a cane toad must be marvelous. *high five for the natural history of the chicken*
@rottworks it...definitely sticks in ur mind. its very 80's-90's looking and i think it was to study species and their relationships with other animals or something. it was a while back. man i remember when they used to show a whole lot more videos when i was younger. schoolhouse rock, bill nye the science guy and magic schoolbus. man what happened to learning with entertainment?
That's no bullshit about the canetoads. I've got a mate from Catherine in the NT who still tells stories about the Jihad declared the year the cane toads came to town. I understand the traditional method of dispatch involves a five iron.
It's a good thing that wasn't an American toad. I don't know about cane toads, but the American ones will empty their bladders when they're frightened, and Bill was holding that one at a somewhat unfortunate angle.
The documentary looks awesome and I'm definitely going to check it out, but I am so disturbed by the popping sound of the exploding toads. The sound is stuck in my head now and has yet to fail in making me shudder.
@lephong Lucky! The only video I remember watching in a bio class was one about an English garden growing wild and the animals it attracted. It was interesting, but not quite as entertaining as this one seems to be.
I grew up listening to classical music mostly because I was raised in a cult that believed that any rhythmic music was a sin. It's a shame that because of that I now despise it.
I agree that there is no link with intelligence, but don't you think this kind of music survived for centuries because it's actually good? It's a vital component of the films and cartoons we grew up with, but most of us didn't even notice it. If it would be mere tradition, why do I read so many positive comments from young people that discover it for the first time?
Last Night of the Proms... Watching that while I was a kid growing up on a council estate in the 80s and early 90s... It did not inspire me at all I just felt that this was absolutely terrible and full of people loving and showing off their middle class. I hated it... Made me feel that this was a completely alien world in my own country...
Same. This is the most surreal piece of documentary that I've ever seen.
I remember seeing that 80s Cane Toad documentary in science class at school!
Loved the toad-stomping Combi.
I'm getting all nostalgic now.
"You're in bloody trouble" lol. Just the way Bill says the guy didn't say it to him, he speeds up a bit and whispers it under his breath.
You're in bloody trouble...
Absolutely hilarious! Had me laughing at that for the rest of the show, all night, and the next day! :p
these two blokes are excellent together...
"you're in bloody trouble." hahahahaha
