thank you so much for doing this video...i have a 3 year old girl and I just bought a grooming table and want to start grooming her myself. Is there a certain brand of clipper that you recommend for this job?
Hi Denyse, there are many good manufacturers of clippers. What you choose may depend on many factors; your budget, how noisy the clippers may be, cordless or mains operated and also consider those which will use 'universal' blades and take clip-on combs. The last two points would, for me, be quite important as this gives a better flexibility of use. Take a look at the Wheaten Health grooming pages on this link www.wheatenhealthinitiative.com/pages/GroomingEquipt.html as this gives further information and images of clippers, combs and scissors etc. Also more info and videos on the related pages on the page top navigation links. I hope this will help.
Hi Marilyn, I can answer all of your questions together: first I would suggest that you look at the page about Puppies on the Wheaten Health Initiative website www.wheatenhealthinitiative.com/Pages/puppycare&grooming.html also look at all the Grooming information from equipment and tips and all other videos. The difference between Irish and heavy coats is best described as follows: Irish coat is less dense and less hairs per square inch. Both coats need care from an early age. A couple of days after your puppy gets home start to teach it to 'stand' for grooming and comb it. This will only take a few minutes a day but it is very important to start this discipline. A first trim should be between 12 - 16 weeks old, there is a puppy trim video. The dog in the video you have watched is an adult, with a heavy coat.
Aaah - now I must apologise, I did not read your mail properly. I am sure that you will not regret your purchase, but do consult a Wheaten Terrier Club (or their web site) in your Country if you decide to buy, as there are many breeders who may not be as genuine as they would appear to be.
Apologies for late reply. Wheatens do not shed, but that means they need regular combing and grooming. Odourless depends on how much they walk through the mud or dirt and how often you bathe them. But they don't have an 'inbuilt' odour
chinacane Wheaten Terriers are non shedding dogs, so it is most unusual to hear of your problem, but I know that there have been isolated cases such as yours. My suggestion is to put your situation to the Facebook group Wheaten Health Matters, where members are Wheaten owners with a majority having many years of experience with Wheaten problems.
***** Misunderstanding, I understood you that wheatons don't shed, I meant that I don't mind grooming ie it is a small price to pay compared to a breed that sheds over a difficult-to-vacuum fur covered carpet, hence it is a breed I would consider buying.

Thanks for the info. Grooming is ok, shedding all over carpet is a nighmare.
