Even so, there are a handful that touch me especially, and this is one ... Born in Chicago, I left for the South as a babe in arms... This route is how I finally returned, as a young adult/gradual student, to what once again became my (now longtime) home, way back in '82. I was entering the city sight unseen, back when many of the steel mills still operated, and the sky was a color, well ... not found in nature (glowing yellow mauve, as I recall). Seeing the smokestacks give way to the enormous power lines, and then finally to the beautiful Chicago skyline - it is not a sight I am likely ever to forget. Have taken so many journeys from here in the years since ... So great now to see it through your eyes - thank you for the ride!

The Chicago Skyway Bridge may not look so great in the daytime, but it honestly looks very beautiful at night! My family and I drove on it last week when we were heading to southern Indiana for the weekend, and it was just awesome, even if we were on the Eastbound lanes. It was lighted well and provided nice views of the factories and neighborhoods in the distance and below.

I drove that route in the opposite direction towards Michigan last May. I recall being astonished at the dilapidated state of the infrastructure in the Chicago/Gary area and the Midwest in general. So sad to see what's happened to the former manufacturing heartland.

I remember this day. Me and my father where driving home from the cubs game around this time. Made it back to Michigan city to join the family int he fireworks over Lake Michigan. The skyway was empty that day. Then the huge storm rolled through the area during the fireworks show
I used to use the Skyway back when we lived in Indiana and commuted to Chicago. Nothing like the Chicago Skyway. At one of the toll plaza's there's a service plaza and we used to eat there at the McDonalds in the center of the highway all the time. There is the South Shore rail line that follows the path of the Skyway. I like how the Indiana portion of the Skyway uses the exact same street lamps that Atlanta GA has. I really wish Atlanta's roads were more like Chicago's. Also I wish we had more street lights, thats one thing about Chicago, they have street lights on every highway there.
What happened to the McD's in the median @ the toll plaza? The bldg. is still there but it looks closed in the video. That place had a captive audience... I don't get it...
As you enter Chicagoland after skipping Indianapolis due to the rain at that time, I started to wonder what are the best freeways in Indianapolis's metro area.
Chicago uses mostly General Electric, double-door sodium vapor street lights, (1985-2000 series), but they are too bright, and should be replaced with LED street lights, which light only downward, and less glare, especially within the city of Chicago.
Since when did they make that stretch in Gary 70? It used to be 55, it's also 55 on 80/94 until after Gary. I guess that shows that I94 outside of Chicago can go for at least 65.
It's been that way for a few years now. I used the Skyway in 2013 and I was also surprised that the limit was increased to 70. I believe it happened when Indiana increased their speed limits as their max speed used to be 65 throughout the state. It's now 70 on I-65 too. I think 70 is kinda pushing it, kinda..The skyway has alot of twists and turns and some of them seem alittle too sharp for 70.
There are two Interstates parallel to the southwestern curved shore of Lake Michigan which are I-90 and I-94. I love the Indiana Toll Road and Chicago Skyway. However, I thought most people use I-80/I-94/US 6 to travel Chicago from the southeast as they stay in I-94 because if they're in I-90, they must pay.
This is much nicer than Driving in Los Angeles. So U drove 33 miles which in Los Angeles would mean U coming from OC County to Downtown LA. Approximate driving time... 1.5 hrs to 2hrs stuck on the 5 freeway. Thanks for Sharing. 😎✌️
It’s actually more than that because you are tolled twice. Pay a $2 toll on the Indiana side, then you cross the bridge and pay another $5 toll on the Illinois side. And yes, you’re tolled twice in both directions.
When those expressways were originally built so many decades ago, they were built with enough room in the median for subway lines to be built later, whenever those plans came to fruitation. It was actually the expressways that were built first before those 'L lines later were built(i.e. Kennedy Expwy. 90/94 only having the Blue Line since 1970 to Jefferson Park, and 1984 to O'Hare), not the other way around. Though the CTA took lesser time to build the Blue Line in the middle of the Eisenhower Expwy(290), vs. along the Kennedy(90/94). The Calumet/Bishop Ford expressway(I-94) on Chicago's southeast side south of the 57/94 split was also built with the long term plan that a subway line would be built in the middle, but that 'L line(Red Line) was only built to 95th St along the Dan Ryan(90/94) years ago. They're talking about possibly extending it as far south as 130th St, so maybe it might finally be built one day?

With freeway "rush hours" most of the day (arguably 7-9:30a, 11a-1:45p'ish, 3:30-6:30p), plus game traffic from all the stadiums and event traffic to boot, all that lane hopping is just how we manage to get around. Want some real fun? Try the city streets! I once had to go to traffic school (forbidden right on red during morning rush, fwiw), and instructor actually confirmed that our local left-turn custom was necessary and correct: pull out into intersection with traffic signal, vehicle signal flashing .... then wait for red for oncoming traffic to clear, THEN 3-6 vehicles may make left turn before cross traffic reaches intersection. Drive safely! 😂🤣😂🚙🚐🏎😂🤣😂 P.S. This is NOT the Chicago city flag, no matter *what* they tell you: 🏁 😉
Wait for next year when the flyover is complete it will end the log jam from the Stevenson Expressway I 55 to the Eisenhower Expressway I290 and nice video for my hometown
Nice choice of music. I also loved the sun filtering through the clouds. It really added to the atmosphere of the video. You try to avoid filming going into the sun for obvious reasons, but this time it worked out well

Ok that's not a "skip" I thought there was a problem with how the footage flowed, yes those were planned jumps or skips as you called them. I had to make those jumps to make everything fit in the time frame of the song or the footage would have to have been sped up much faster and would not have matched the music right and the video would have sucked, does that make sense?
Great video! I drive through Chicago once a year and the 55 MPH speed limit is ridiculous. Following the law is a good way to get yourself killed. How fast were you going on average?
I kinda agree with it in Chicago as other cities like Milwaukee have it too but outside of the city it could be 65 like it is on I55 in Will county before Joliet.

They toll you to death in Illinois! I like driving up through the city if its late at night but day time Ill stick to 355 or 294 around and pay the tolls!! On a side note I read somewhere that Chicago freeways are the best lit in the country

It's a play on words between the title of the song, and the local Democratic Party political groups are known as "the Chicago machine", look it up if you ant to know more.

They toll you to death in Illinois! I like driving up through the city if its late at night but day time Ill stick to 355 or 294 around and pay the tolls!! On a side note I read somewhere that Chicago freeways are the best lit in the country
They are well lit but IMO they aren't close to the best freeways in the country, I think Texas and California have that covered.
Iv always wanted to visit Texas!! One of these days! Awesome video cant wait to the rest of Chicago!!
