When I watch lunch break I always eat so like I'm eating and listening to you guys. Also when I see lunch break I wait til I eat so then I can eat with you guys through screen. But I hope you have a great day and thank you for being such an amazing influence to everyone who watches you on TH-cam. Keep up being amazing. Happy Chinese New Years!
Happy New Year Wong fu fam!! Well a small gambling session is for sure and just the best timing to get together with the family for sure!!! :) meeting my cousins that are overseas and catching up.
Lol it does always go both ways 😁 All my traditions are on the western new year, like a clean house before midnight, all the windows open, 12 grapes, and noise makers to send the evil spirits away
For Lunar New Year, my church always has a party! For tet, many people dress up in their ao dai, we have a concert where people can perform, the younger kids always do a dance together, the some of women do a dance with the fans, a lion dance is performed, and the church gives out a red envelope to everyone! Of course we eat food too: sticky rice, pho, egg rolls, banh tet, and che!! One of my favorite holidays!!!!
it's really good to see you guys involved with Dragon / Lion Dance etc. I feel like in my city, only the 1st generation and those who are eurasian seem to be keen about Lunar New Year. Many of the 2nd generations seem to be absent. Maybe its perceived as too daggy I have no idea why!
Jenn - Year of the Dog (1994?) Benson - Year of the Monkey (1992?) Chris - Year of the Monkey (1993 January?) Did I get that right? Heh. Was mentally doing the math but it was pretty easy given that I am born in 1994 January, which is the year of the Rooster.
HAPPY LUNAR NEW YEAR !! I WAS SO EXCITED WHEN I SAW THIS BECAUSE I CONNECTED WITH EACH AND EVERY ONE OF U ! THIS DEFINITELY GOT ME IN THE SPIRIT FOR LUNAR NEW YEAR!
Korean New year is pretty similar in that we receive money from the older generation after giving a formal bow. I wish wearing hanbok (Korean traditional dress) was still a popular practice and something that people did even as adults.. We tradiontally eat rice cake soup and different types of Korean pancakes, meat etc. I wish I was eating but its 2am right now and the kitchen is too far away
Religion plays a huge part in how my family celebrates New Years. There's mass (top priority), a lion dance, van nghe (which is like a musical variety show kinda like Paris By Night for all those who grew up with that in the house!), and then visiting family members near, far, and on the other side of heaven (cemetery). We also eat. A LOT. so much it's almost like another thanksgiving. And of course the red envelopes, the decoration, and traditional clothing.
Omg Wes paddled for UCSD's dragon boat team?! This is so awesome! Dragon boat is a growing sport here in Canadian Universities! It's so cool to know that Wes used to paddle 😁
Happy Lunar new year to everyone at WongFu 🎉🎉🎉 Chúc mừng năm mới 🤗 A little bit about Lunar new year in Vietnam, well it won't be Vietnamese new year w/o Bánh chưng/bánh tét (stuffed rice cakes); dưa hành (pickled onion), different types of sausage wrapped in banana leaves (giò thủ, giò bò, giò lụa, giò gà...) etc 🤗 You guys should definitely look these savoury items up 🤗
They didn't. She left like she came in, like a mist of beauty we'll always remember. She wrote a post though on her blog, I'll leave the link here: peachieloveblog.blogspot.com/2016/09/love-always-christine.html
In India people of different regions and religions have their separate calendars so everyone celebrates new year at different times throughout the year. We have public holidays on most of them so I'm more than cool xD
I'm celebrating Lunar New Year for the first since one of my housemates is an international student from China. The rest of my housemates and I decided to celebrate it with her so she could feel more at home this year. It's going to be amazing!
HaPpY Chinese New Year GUYS! Gong Xi Fa Cai, Gong Hei Fat Choi, Xi Nian Kuai Le, Sang Yi Fai Lo! 🎐🏮🎏🎇🎋🎍 My family's traditions are plates of grapes and oranges and Sharon fruit for Buddha, eating mooncakes, opening all windows and doors inside, not wearing black or dark clothing and wear bright colours, no showers or cleaning or cutting hair or nails etc.. And yah I'm with Wes on the whole married couple give Hong baos only, haha I was told that too! 🌸🐓👘
I'm going to Mall of America (Minnesota) this Saturday for Chinese New Year with the Minneapolis Chinese Language and Culture meetup.com group. The three main performances will be the Dragon Dance, Lion Dance, and Bamboo Orchestra.
AYYY I'm like Benson, parents/grandparents from Vietnam but we're ethnically Chinese... Hooray for parents switching between 3 languages within one sentence
I relate to Benson in that I'm also ethnically Chinese but my family is from Vietnam. We usually fry vermicelli, mushrooms, bean curd and some black hair looking (pronounced faht choi?) thing for the new year and eat hainan chicken, pork belly etc. My family also wears red on that day. :)
Offline was super awesome! Why is Phil creeping? Does he want the red pocket too lol. Currently cleaning the house while watching Lunch Break! I think you should talk about the food next year! (Pineapple tartssssssss ♡)
I'm half Cambodian so we celebrate the Lunar New Year in April. My mom usually took us to the temple and we ate food and celebrated with the community. A few years ago I filmed it to make a documentary but lost the footage.
Chuc mung nam moi! :D I'm part Vietnamese and Laos, so I get to experience three new years (Western, Vietnamese/Chinese, and Laos!). You guys mentioned it for the Vietnamese New Year, but one thing I wanted to add was this gambling game my family always played! There were six options (crab, shrimp, deer, squash, rooster, and fish) and three die. You have a banker who rolls the die and if one of them lands on your option(s), you get money back. Sooo much fun! :) For Lao New Year, it's tradition to have water fights because it "washes away" the bad luck! :)
Chris is correct. if its your zodiac year, you need to be more careful. the story is that every year, the zodiac animals take turn returning to the heavenly gate which means they leave Earth and thus are not here to protect you (you as in the children who are born in that zodiac animal year) so it's your "unlucky" year and you need to be more careful.
Jenn's "Ao Dai" pronunciation tells us that she's south viet 🙌🏻 My north viet friends laughed so much abt my ao dai pronunciation once cuz they couldnt understand me lol Happy new year guys!
When I was little, I've always been scared of the lion because it look like a scary monster in front pf you with those black eyes staring down at your soul.
Wesley Chan as the lunch break Emcee! Usually he's pretty quiet but today you were very Phil-like. Good job, bro!
I feel like whenever Phil is not in a lunch break but Wes is, he steps up to the plate

That one jealous head popping on the right corner of my screen shocked the heck out of me! Philip!!

Every time when Wes speaks cantonese😍
I would love to see a Wongfu lion/dragon dance. Considering Wes' experience, I can see him designing and producing it lol
This is a breakfast break for me.
Jen is always so creative with the gifts I can't help but smile :D
Being Latina, hearing all the different aspects is so cool. Also, year of the rabbit!!
Yaaaaay! That's great to hear 😊

Lol it does always go both ways 😁
All my traditions are on the western new year, like a clean house before midnight, all the windows open, 12 grapes, and noise makers to send the evil spirits away
Wes was talking so much in this episode! It was great! lol

Phil was so jealous when Jen gave the li xi out 😂😂😂
Jenn is such a memelord LUL I love her... in a completely platonic and non-romantic way, of course.
I dream in memes
Happy Lunar New Year!
I think my parents taught me the Hong Bao tradition that Wes was mentioning, that married couples gave them to their elders.
Yah same, married couples give them lol
I always enjoyed the Vietnamese gambling game where you bet on the crab, fish, prawn, rooster, and whatever else yall should definitely play!
Fun fact: As a malayalee we have Vishu- which is on 14th April- and it's considered our "New Year"!
Hey, fellow malayalee! :D
oh my god HELLO
Maybe a little too late but Malayalees unite!
Jenn - Year of the Dog (1994?)
Benson - Year of the Monkey (1992?)
Chris - Year of the Monkey (1993 January?)
Did I get that right? Heh. Was mentally doing the math but it was pretty easy given that I am born in 1994 January, which is the year of the Rooster.

YAAAAAAY 🎉🎉🎉
ahahaha Jen and Wes would make a cute couple
What Chris said is true, if you're animal year is approaching you have to be more cautious.
"We're breaking all the rules right now guys." XD
Ahh can't believe Lunar New Year is coming so soon!
Korean New year is pretty similar in that we receive money from the older generation after giving a formal bow. 祝Wongfu 新年快乐, 鸡年吉祥!
Where did Christine go?
She left Wong Fu long time ago. I could be wrong but I think they made a video about her leaving.
They didn't. She left like she came in, like a mist of beauty we'll always remember. She wrote a post though on her blog, I'll leave the link here: peachieloveblog.blogspot.com/2016/09/love-always-christine.html

Watching them eat is making me hungry even though I just ate some minutes ago 😂
I relate to Benson in that I'm also ethnically Chinese but my family is from Vietnam. We usually fry vermicelli, mushrooms, bean curd and some black hair looking (pronounced faht choi?) thing for the new year and eat hainan chicken, pork belly etc. My family also wears red on that day. :)

I just started lion dancing at my school! it's fun but so much leg work omg
2.14 - 2.32. Thats how long it took for Wesley to eat one bite of noodles😂
Wes' bottle placement distracts me.... :D
teehee
Wes, what are you drinking? It looks like airborne..
Esther S because it is :)
yes, agree with wes! it is time to "tap" this very experienced group of dragon/lion dancers!!
I'm Viet too, I started lion dancing last year and preformed last week.
"Little Bensons" omg so cute :')
Wes' bottle holder tho, so efficient
You noticed. Thanks senpai
When the New Years comes around for the viets, Con Buom Xuan is the go-to song AHHAHA
Am I the only one who noticed how Wes put his juice bottle in one of the compartments of his lunch plate? Haha so Wes 😆
Wong Fu Lion Dancing Team!!!!!!!
Jenn's "Ao Dai" pronunciation tells us that she's south viet 🙌🏻
My north viet friends laughed so much abt my ao dai pronunciation once cuz they couldnt understand me lol
Happy new year guys!
Are the circle shirts that chris is wearing still available?
imagining little Bensons 😍 so cute!
You look great Jen!
When I was little, I've always been scared of the lion because it look like a scary monster in front pf you with those black eyes staring down at your soul.
Happy Lunar New Year to you all! :)

1:21 Wes is very serious about Jenn's traits. =) I want to know what Wes's traits are!
Yes omg Wes back at it again with the canton at the end whoopwhoop
Just performed lion dance last week and about to go do dragon tomorrow!!
Me and my parents used to watch the "Spring festival Show" (春节联欢晚会) together, it was the only tradition for us ^_^
Shoutout to the year of the rooster! (Birthday is this Sunday, Jan 29th!) :D
i will always remember that christine rakes in the cash and bathes in it during lunar new year
