It may be a Mockbuster (one of the first), but the moon eating the spaceship and burping up fire is kinda funny (and different from the original)

It was a remake of the original movie because back then they just copied other movies without legal repercussions.

@@ad-sd-vids5332 Even earlier. The first remake was Edison's "Fencing" from 1892 which remade Etienne-Jules Marey's "Two Fencers" of 1891.

Wow, at first I viewed this as the very first "mockbuster". But, the wiki on this calls this a remake. But however any one looks at this, this was a really good short. Visually stunning for its time.

Fidèle à la version de Méliès. Mon moment préféré est celui ou l'obus traverse la lune. J'ai
Tout de même une préférence pour la ''véritable'' version !

well, at least in Chomon's version, they were able to bring a moon maiden back to earth.(That's a joke before someone takes me seriously)

Totally a copy, but who cares! It was a different time and industry back then. By 1908, Melies' 1902 version was probably long forgotten by the public. Movies had limited showings and then disappeared. It's great to compare and contrast this with the better-known version.

Well, I guess this this the improved version with cutting edge special effects... Just saying. I like how the rocket actually moves through the blackboard as opposed to it being drawn in white chalk.

A Spanish guy copying a French guys film. or re-imaging of it to say the least. Kind of like what the Italians did to every single American film throughout the 1970s and 80s. And let's not even get into Turkish Star Trek, Turkish Wizard of Oz, or Turkish ET!

I'd never heard seen film before. Perhaps the world being so much less interconnected than it is today, and cinema being so much less international back then, Chomón figured that almost nobody would have seen both his film, and the film by Melies that he so blatantly copied.

Copy by Chomon and Pathe in front of a cinema craftsman pioneer Méliès.
