this is not true, untill 1912, french and italian movies were most modern and creative. Only with Griffith and the First World World american cinema become the first in the world

Lumière invented cinema, Méliès invented special effects and showed how cinema could tell stories. English filmmakers invented the first narrative editing techniques, which Porter and Griffith copied, as they copied Méliès's special effects. The Italians specialized in the production of feature films, epic films with large sets and rich costumes that were sold all over the world. Until 1912, because of the patent war unleashed by Edison, it was not possible to produce feature films in the U.S. like the Italians or the French. Only when this issue was resolved could Griffith make his great masterpieces and go beyond what he had learned from the Europeans. The cinema of origins ended, classical cinema began. But meanwhile, war had broken out in Europe....

Im only saying that when it comes to the classic cinema americans were the best from the beginning, i mean 1903, even without doing "feature films". I could say that they invented the cinema we know today. For me narrative cinema is the best form of cinema.

I agree. You can say the same things about both films. Griffith is a talented artist and most scenes are strikingly beautiful. But his stories are full of an unnerving 'casual' racism. There's an element of cruelty in this insouncience.
