  • Howdy. This is my first video and is meant as an educational video on how to manage large logs. I will make a video a later on how to transport large logs from where they were cut to this location.
Other videos will include various other aspects of living in New Hampshire, either as having fun, a survivalist, prepping, managing land and animals, or perhaps my family or anything else.

The longer the log, the more leverage you have as your split widens on the starting end. No need to shorten the log.

Ear protection, eye protection but no chainsaw pants, from the guy who was at the emergency department needing to get stitched up because of unintended contact with a chainsaw, get chaps or pants. I was lucky it could have been so much worse.

Hi enjoyed your video I was wondering what would you do with a split that long and if you're going to cut it smaller for your furnace or fireplace why wouldn't you cut it before you split it. Not ragging on you just actually trying to figure it out somebody left me some 20 inch rounds and I'm starting to break them up but I haven't worked out for years and I'm in my sixties so it's been an experience I was wondering if they work better on their sides instead of tipped up thanks for your time

Crazy NH Mountain Man hi okay thanks for your response we mainly burn Oak right now that are Oak Forest are turning over at this point and they're trying to replace a lot of them with Pines I also burn outside in the city I burn in a enclosed fireplace that I built with my brother-in-law and in the country I burn on the ground in a large tractor wheel A friend brought up over 50 years in the same place but I normally keep my logs to about 20 in have a great day

Wow 1.5 comments per year LOL man that pine splits easy. I did a search for this because I'm trying to some large cherry logs

Me too. I have cherry log coming off the stump next week. I use more wedges and take turns driving them so no one wedge is doing all the work. That will help steer the split if it wanders. My favorite wedges are pieces of beech about 2x6 and a quarter inch thick. Gluts made from bradford pear limbs are also economical once the split is wide enough.

Nice video. Are the logs split green or have they dried somewhat?

+Dan Montagano It was about 6 weeks down on the ground; so pretty green.
