Great content. I think this is a necessary stroke for anyone with a one-hander because good players are going to exploit that side with a heavy high-bouncing ball. The best outcome is to neutralize that. I think once one can control that shot, maybe try aiming it to your opponent's BH and pushing the back.
a way to counter that is learning on the rise backhand to avoid a high shot or backing off too much, but it'll take a while to train this as the timing window is extremely tough
Great insight.. Just aim deep. I try to hit a mean cut on the ball.. trying to imitate fedrer like slice but it lands in net or just crosses the net. I guess you kept a pretty open face of racquet
Probably using a chopper grip and holding your racket too low down towards the butt cap. Nothing wrong with holding your hand slightly higher up on slice/volleys, and making sure you playing continental on these shots.
very good video, as always good information on technique. One question: to achieve greater depth, would it help to move the body forward during the shot?
I would go more for a heavy topspin BH. It will cause more trouble with the bounce than a fast shot which by the time it reaches your opponent is not fast anymore. ;)
Hi Tomaz , I am a great fan of your instructions, applied most of them ,gave me lot of success. Of late my opponent (friend) developed a new shot , he targets my backhand, by the time the ball reaches baseline it's more than my h head height and still in state of ascending, the ball drops almost at 3/4 of court so not able to take on rise, if going back have to go atleast 15 feet to take at shoulder height, by the time I manage to send ball back opponent is already at service line and simply finishes. The ball kicks so sharply almost 60 to 70 degrees, not much trajectory to shift to forehand, not able to handle, can you suggest best option to bringing opponent into rallying
Hi, yes, this is a very effective strategy, I've used it too when I played. You have two options - take the ball early but not hit it hard, just control it and play it deep, that way you will not give opponent time to sneak in. To just control the ball with a slower swing speed is not so difficult, but you still may need to practice. Option 2 is to go back and then hit a high topspin lob when opponent is at the net. Make him hit a difficult smash and see how it goes...
I didn’t catch you saying it but you had a graphic. I guess it’s really just used if you want to approach? Otherwise I guess you’d want to step forward or back and try a different shot.
Nice video. But actually those balls didnt appear that high? I often get balls 2m+ height on backhand on purpose from my oppenents. Do you have any tips for that?
You can use topspin, but this video is specifically about backhand slice, see the title of the video. Here's a video on how to play high balls with topspin: th-cam.com/video/tEbGVa7mxqM/w-d-xo.html

Excellent lesson 🙏 difficult subject
Nice coaching. Thanks

Yes, weight transfer helps with all strokes get extra bit of power and depth.
Hi Tomaz, when the incoming ball is high but not too fast, is it worth going for a faster flatter BH instead of slice?
I would go more for a heavy topspin BH. It will cause more trouble with the bounce than a fast shot which by the time it reaches your opponent is not fast anymore. ;)

Tks. Will try it
People play high backhand slice to my kick server and the return drops really short and its hard to attack. What would you do?

Great video as usual 👌
Sir, can you also suggest some good shoes for all court or clay court.
Asics!
@@feeltennis Thank you Sir.
good stuff
Hi Tomaz.. What if my opponent immediately comes to the net? What should I do?
Aim to their feet so that they have to volley upwards and then attempt to pass them on the second shot.
Hi Tomaz, any chance of you coming back to Singapore now that covid has more or less eased off? :)
Hi, currently no plans...
@@feeltennis ah.. sad to hear this, but thankfully we still have TH-cam. Thank you so much!
Nice video. But actually those balls didnt appear that high? I often get balls 2m+ height on backhand on purpose from my oppenents. Do you have any tips for that?
Let it come down to your contact point and hit a heavy top spin shot. Hit underneath the ball
Yup, that's the right way to do it.
Wrist at contact should be neutral? Nice video!
Yes, wrist needs to be very stable.
No wonder this tactic is one of the most yoused . On the rice might be an option. ?
why didnt you say at the end should I go for slice or spin on those high balls ????? You explained it like I dont have a choice ?!?!??!?!!?!?
