  • Learning how to hit a tennis one-handed backhand stroke with correct technique is much easier when you break it down into smaller steps. 🎾 Free One-Handed Backhand CONSISTENCY COURSE: www.feeltennis.net/1h-backhan...
    That allows you to learn each chunk of the one-handed backhand technique much better and as you finally connect them all together your backhand will flow much smoother.
    Here's a brief overview of the whole process where the first step is finding the right grip and the rest are 5 key positions of the whole one-handed backhand tennis stroke.
    1. The Grip - we'll use a very simple method for finding the right grip without any thinking about bevels.
    2. The Unit Turn - there are 3 checkpoints in the unit turn alone that help you get into the right position before you even start moving your feet.
    3. The Backswing - there is not much of a backswing in the one-handed backhand but it's important that most of the work is done with your non-dominant arm.
    4. The Uncoiling - most players miss the key wrist and racket head position in the uncoiling phase and lose on power so make sure you get this one right.
    5. The Contact - we'll look at 3 key checkpoints of the contact phase and what is the role of the wrist.
    6. The Follow-Through - The pros like Wawrinka often times hit a follow-through in a way that deceives your eye and we'll make sure you're clear on the correct follow-through position.
    Learning how to hit a one-handed backhand tennis stroke is hopefully now a much easier process for you but do keep in mind that changing technique takes time.
    If you would like to see the above video as an article with images then head over here:
    www.feeltennis.net/one-handed...
    And if you're a tennis beginner who hasn't been learning the one-handed backhand technique at all and you're starting from scratch then stay tuned as I will also post some simple backhand progressions for tennis beginners.

    Thanks to your videos, I made the 1HBH work. Oddly it worked so well that I realized I used all wrist and "brushing" on my forehand. The solid contact through the ball as well as the vibration and sound of solid contact with the addition of topspin of a correct 1HBH grossly pointed out the inadequacies of my forehand. Forehand is still being fixed.

    I play with a OHBH, and have watched a lot of online tutorials. Ive been waiting for Tomaz to do one as I knew there would be new elements he would cover to improve technique. And there is indeed. I like the bit about pointing your lead foot toward the ball and contact point, and the bit about keeping the wrist straight and imparting topspin via the forearm. Really nice clear video as ever. Lovely. thanks Tomaz

    I will second that you are the best tennis coach on you tube. Very helpful. Can you give some tips on doubles? Womens doubles.

    • @feeltennis
      @feeltennis  5 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Thank you! I shared these tips at some point before and this is about the most I can do to help just with writing. For doubles the basic plan is simple:
      SERVE - 70% down the T in order to prevent angled returns. The rest into the body and wide for surprise.
      RETURN - 70% short cross court - aim at the intersection of service and singles side line. If you hit roughly in that area (plus minus 3 feet), the opposing net player cannot reach your shot with a poach. The rest of returns hit down the line and lob to keep the net player honest and not close in too much on cross court returns.
      SERVER'S PARTNER - 70% of the volleys aim at the opposing net player. (5.0+ levels need to volley in the "hole", so between players). The rest of volleys in the middle or towards a weaker player.
      RETURNER'S PARTNER - defend the middle and do the best you can, try to aim the ball towards the baseline player to gain time. That's it, that's most of the doubles strategy, the rest are smaller details. So it comes down to who executes the plan better...

    Tennis is really an intriguing sport, isn't it? I always have decent 1HBH, but some days ago i lost because my backhand didn't show up. It was just a series of spinny shot without power. I came back to see some examples of wawrinka, and i just realized the one thing that is also said by Tomaz here. Spin from arm, not the wrist. Found out i tried to hit more topspin by flicking my wrist too much and failed miserably. Too much thinking of technique...

  • @markelliot1697
    @markelliot1697 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

    Hi Tomaz! Another great video. I find with the “extra 45” that this is an additional stretch after the unit turn and just before swinging towards the ball. Is that the right sensation? Someone else described it a bit like stretching a rubber band which is what it feels like to me. The issue I struggle with is when trying to add power how to stay side on. I don’t struggle staying side on for normal rally balls and stopping rotation but seem to open up too soon when applying pace. Thanks!

    • @feeltennis
      @feeltennis  3 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      Yes, you should feed that stretch just before forward move. That stretch only happens when you relax a bit which is tricky because you are just about to hit the ball and most players tense up too early and get no power. It's a paradox, the more you forcefully engage, the less power you get. To get more power, focus on the legs and hip impulse. That will send energy up to the upper body and arms. Look for power from the ground up.
