Hahahahahahahahahaha I am SO GLAD all of you are laughing I was laughing so hard at this First it is DID THE BABY RUN INTO THE WOODS.?! and I barely catch my breath and I hear..........NAH UH NOT THE PEE PEE.?! I keep laughing at Chuuzus reaction because I had almost the EXACT same reaction and exclaimed similar phrases of confusion
quick explanation for the banishment!: basically the family are too puritan for the puritans lmao. they’re much more strict with religion and the father likely was speaking out against the church for being too lenient in their scripture and teachings, so they were sent away
Specifically they're a type of Baptist that disagreed with other puritans. When they talk about the children not being baptized: they believed children had to choose baptism, rather than baptizing babies. And yeah it's a huge reason why the dad is such a failhard--he didn't consider survival over faith.
When you realize that those children weren't singing a children's song , but a satanic mantra, just sends chills to your spine , this movie was one hell of a debut for Eggers and he didn't miss a single movie ever since , the guy's talent is undeniable.
Eggers touches on it more in Nosferatu but the real horror is how restricted women were in the past. Tomasin did NOTHING and yet just because she was a young girl becoming a woman she was assumed to be an evil witch by her entire family. Her dad throws her under the bus for his mistakes. Her mother doesn’t trust her and maybe even hates her. They were literally talking about selling her Even if there was nothing supernatural happening the way her family treats her in this movie is terrifying enough
The accent is from northern England and the fat of an un baptised child and soot in folklore was used as a flying ointment. Loved this reaction and love the funny edits. I think you were right about Midlegs too, snoozefest.
Anya Taylor Joy's starring role, which marked her as one to watch. Funnily enough, she would later costar with a Thomasin Mckenzie, in "Last Night in Soho", the same first name as her character here.
adore The VVitch!! I saw it in theaters when I was 17, and let me tell you, I felt such deep empathy for Thomasin because I was raised Catholic (her family is Protestant but still) and I couldn’t stop thinking about how I would’ve been treated exactly the way she’s treated if I’d been unfortunate enough to be born in the 1600s. I’m a bisexual trans man who was constantly questioning my elders and the church as a child, between my natural rebellious streak, the mind-melting effects of untreated gender dysphoria, and my red hair+blue eyes (a sign of witchcraft, according to very old antisemitic tropes) my ass wouldve been Salem Witch Trialed SO FAST
I remember seeing this in theaters and it was still underrated shortly after it came out but I knew we had an iconic timeless film on our hands. So happy to see that it’s being given its flowers in the past few years on TH-cam.
Ooh, you are in for a very dark and chilling ride. This movie was my first foray into the Robert Eggers-verse (lol). I remember my first time watching this movie and just sitting there stunned and shaken by how phenomenal the movie was and how dark, eerie, chilling, spooky, suspenseful, unsettling and so freaking creepy the movie was; and the ending will never cease to make me feel a deep heaviness and make my blood run cold. I also watched The Lighthouse which was also very dark, twisted, eerie, creepy and moody although darkly comedic at times and was very surreal, like it had very strong elements of drawing influences from David Lynch (RIP). I gotta get around to picking up back where I left off on The Northman and I really, really, really, REALLY can't wait to see Nosferatu 2024, that's the Robert Eggers film that I'm most excited to see (especially after I watched the original silent film version from 1922). Anyways, I hope you enjoy the movie and I look forward to your reaction!
Great reaction man! I’m obsessed with this movie and I’ve watched tons of reactions but this is definitely my favorite, you did a great job of following and putting everything together throughout! Definitely caught more than any other reaction out there.
This is one of those films that stays with you. Eggers does not disappoint. Witches aside, its fascinating what ostracism, isolation, stress and discord will do to an otherwise close family unit. I hope you'll consider Nosferatu 2024 in the future. Egger's best one yet!
Oh honey, now you gotta watch, “Gretel & Hansel” starring Sophia Lillis (aka Young Beverly Marsh from “It” & It: Chapter 2”). That one was dark & got to me, too.
This movie had all the stereotypical things associated with witchcraft in the colonial days: flying ointment made from babies, consorting with the devil in the form of a goat, dancing naked around a bonfire, etc. I'm a modern witch myself and I found it kinda funny but f'd up😅magic is literally just bending energy to your will and modern paganism is about worshipping nature, none of the crazy stuff in this film, lol!
Robert Eggers and Anya Taylor-Joy came out the gate hard with The Witch. I was kinda disappointed he didn't cast Anya in Nosferatu. She would have been incredible as either of the two women.
“did the baby run into the forest” 😂😂
I WAS DEAD. I’m just picturing the baby sprinting into the woods. It’s way funnier than it should be lmaoo
@@gabbytorres6885 lmao now i can’t get the image of the baby running out of my head 😭😭
@@Chuuzusthat would be the true witchery of the film lmaooo
when he said that i LMAOOO
Hahahahahahahahahaha I am SO GLAD all of you are laughing I was laughing so hard at this

That Kamala clip fucking kills me every single time 😭
"i got you, moonlight, sunlight, sharlight, i need you" chuu please 😭
The goat that played Black Phillip was apparently a terror on set
He’s banned from making movies, and lives on a farm now. We love Black Phillip
very fitting
Method acting
"What in the Lannister is going on here" 🤣 Would love to see your reaction to Nosferatu 🖤
quick explanation for the banishment!: basically the family are too puritan for the puritans lmao. they’re much more strict with religion and the father likely was speaking out against the church for being too lenient in their scripture and teachings, so they were sent away
Oh TY for this, I only saw it once but this helps understand a lot more
Oh wow I thought they couldn’t pay their taxes 😂 this makes sense with how they handled everything else
LMAO omg imagine being so conservative that they kick you out of the church that’s also conservative 😭
When your too Puritan for the Puritans your doing something wrong.
Specifically they're a type of Baptist that disagreed with other puritans. When they talk about the children not being baptized: they believed children had to choose baptism, rather than baptizing babies. And yeah it's a huge reason why the dad is such a failhard--he didn't consider survival over faith.
Clickety-Clackety 😂😂 she had me dying
lmao those little witches pissed me off bad! but they were hilarious
No fr Chu 😂❤️
When you realize that those children weren't singing a children's song , but a satanic mantra, just sends chills to your spine , this movie was one hell of a debut for Eggers and he didn't miss a single movie ever since , the guy's talent is undeniable.
Your face when black Phillip started to speak 😂💀. "Wouldst thou like to live deliciously?" Is a gag, tell black Phillip to come tempt me
"I volunteer as tribute" 17:03 😂😂😂
This film is simple yet perfection and gets better every rewatch
it’s perfect!
@Chuuzus hi 💜💜💜 you should check out Robert Eggers' other films btw if you're interested, he's an incredible film-maker
Bro I remember watching this movie and hating the mom and dad sooo much. Every time the dad talked he stressed me ouuuttt😂😂
the whole family were so horrible especially those little demons
Eggers touches on it more in Nosferatu but the real horror is how restricted women were in the past.
Tomasin did NOTHING and yet just because she was a young girl becoming a woman she was assumed to be an evil witch by her entire family. Her dad throws her under the bus for his mistakes. Her mother doesn’t trust her and maybe even hates her.
They were literally talking about selling her
Even if there was nothing supernatural happening the way her family treats her in this movie is terrifying enough
Time to live deliciously!
29:50 "No, she wants powers! What do you mean 'pretty dress'. She wants money." 😂
The accent is from northern England and the fat of an un baptised child and soot in folklore was used as a flying ointment. Loved this reaction and love the funny edits. I think you were right about Midlegs too, snoozefest.
Who even thought of that?! Dang…
(the fat and soot that is)
Midlegs is a perfect way to put it lol. I gotta find a way to incorporate mid into Heretic…Midretic?
MIDLEGS 😂
"Why dont they just eat black phillip?" GOOD IDEA 🤣😂😂😂
I was rolling🤣🤣🤣😅
Oh I can’t wait to see you watch Nosferatu because I know that you’re gonna be left GAGGING!
Haha! Which part is the question . . .
as weird as it sounds this is my comfort movie. i just love the mellow vibe throughout. eggers is a master at creating ambience
I started crying when he started singing Dua!! 😂
the use of the Lucille Bluth "Good for her" clip was *chef kiss*, excellent. No Notes 💯
I blame the twins talking to the dammed goat they were definitely the cause of it all
Exactly. Those two little imps were the obvious point of entry.
5:15 it's a northern english accent! We typically say "me" instead of "my". just like a lil dialect thing!
Okay now you have to watch Nosferatu 🤗
Anya Taylor Joy's starring role, which marked her as one to watch. Funnily enough, she would later costar with a Thomasin Mckenzie, in "Last Night in Soho", the same first name as her character here.
last night in soho is also so so good!
Ralph Ineson: A TRUE TOP TIER HORROR KING. Everytime I see him it's a beautiful experience. He is SO TALENTED.
oh i was here waiting with my lunch!
Thank you Chuu 🎀
20:37 _"You_ little fockers are conversing w/ a *GOAT!* But you're accusing _me_ of witchcraft??!!?!" 🤬🤬🤬
It's crazy how the mother also signs the book just to be killed... that girl is burninggg right now

I remember seeing this in theaters and it was still underrated shortly after it came out but I knew we had an iconic timeless film on our hands. So happy to see that it’s being given its flowers in the past few years on TH-cam.
omg I’m so early, this film is THAT GIRL 😭

The baby scene is from a Nigerian movie I think “billionaires club” something like that
Love this movie!!!
Hard agree with the Unholy Trinity of Horror in our contemporary age.
In the name of the Eggers, the Peele, and the Ari Aster,
Amen.
