    'Water Witching'. A retired City Water Manager showed me how. 10 gauge copper wire pulled from a 3 foot section of 10-3 romex bent into a right angle at the upper end to hang on to 'loosely'. I angle them down at about a 45 degrees from horizontal and when you walk across the water lines they cross hard and fast. You can feel them tug pretty hard for water lines about 10 foot down. The water doesn't even have to be running. I'm not sure why it works, but it does. I showed my mother how to do it because she was sceptical. I had to call it 'Dowsing' because she wouldn't have tried if I called it 'Witching'. I had to dig up my own old water lines. My water lines were 10' down with a wicked dogleg and ran for a couple hundred feet. I marked the ground with orange spray paint and used a backhoe. I was dead on never veering even an inch off to either side for the entire distance. I'd never attempt to find water lines without 'Dowsing' first. Everybody needs to try it to see for themselves, it works as surely as magnets pick up iron nails.

    I know for a fact you can find water lines gas lines and sewer lines. I have done it for years as a plumber. now I have not tried to find gold or silver with it but I will go out in the backyard and put one of my silver bars down to see if it picks it up. it will pick up pvc and abs plastic pipes also. not only will it show you where they are it will also show what direction it is running by the way they cross. so if you get it to cross and it just crossing like a x. then try moving around till the two rods turn towards each other. the two rods will point in the direction it is running. the girls in the plumbing office did not believe me. so I made them do it. and they were shocked it worked. I don't know how it works but it does. I just know its not magic. there must be some kind of scientific reason. thanks Jeff

      I imagine it has to do with disruptions in Earth's magnetic field. Metal detectors use the same principal.

    Interesting blog and topic. I am still pretty new to dowsing. I am in Africa and there is a lot of gold around. I just made my rods from wardrobe wire coat hangers. And started dowsing. I would ask people to hide things and I would look for the stuff with my rods. Then I was refining the process and then wen off to my gold claim on admission to look for the gold veins. The main thing I would do was simply to talk to the rods (after observing some religious practice) and ask it questions and the rods would respond strongly as I would be walking. For example, I would ask, I am looking for a gold bearing being that has a grade of about 20 grams per tonne and the nearest to the surface within this area. Then the rods would point
    But the thing is when I would ask for the depth, it would say around 25 metres deep and the being about 2 metres wide, going 45 degrees etc. So it was my first time and you know the process and expenses of digging 25 deep and blasting is quite costly. So I just need assurances and testimonies from others that it works. I would be left with an egg in my face if i try it then find nothing! Has anyone ever got that deep?

    My grandfather used to hand dig wells and I watched him as a young man douse for water veins . I use to be so amazed when every time he was correct. After the vein of water was found he would take one of the rods and turn it around where the bent part was forward then stand over the vein of water and pretty soon it would start bouncing . He would count the bounces and at a foot per bounce was right at least eighty percent of the time for depth. It was amazing . Just wanted to share my story with you all. I have also seen a forked willow limb used also and was extremely accurate as well. Life is truly amazing . Thank you for your videos. You should ask how, though. The answer is known as the 'ideomotor phenomenon'. Essentially you make slight subconscious movements while holding the rods, same thing that makes a ouiji board feel like it's moving. James Randi proved conclusively dowsing has no more accuracy to it than throwing a dart at a map and saying "dig there". But if you really are convinced of your ability, maybe you should think about taking up the $1,000,000 standing offer that's up for proving it works?

    When I was a teen one of my neighbors hired a dowser to plan a new well location. After the dowser was finished he asked if any of us kids would like to try. I and a few others tried but nothing happened. Then one other youngster tried and after walking 20 feet yelled and dropped the rods. With a look of terror on his face he claimed the rods twisted in his hands. He calmed down and retraced his path and again the rods moved. He swore he never thought anything would happen. Decades later he still says he was shocked and surprised.

    Learn how to dowse with a pendulum, you'll find what you're looking for, I've never been able to get the rods to work, but years ago I worked with a plumber that could always find the water and sewer lines with rods and he could also tell if it was an underground electric line. Incidentally, when you're pendulum dowsing, the pendulum will swing in a circle when you find what you're looking for. Get a ceiling fan chain pull from Lowe's or Home Depot and just let it hang still and ask yes or no questions, "is there any gold close to where I'm standing", if it indicates yes, ask it to point to where it's at, after a little practice you can get good at it.

    Interesting. Me grandfather would locate fresh water wells using nothing but a forked peach tree branch. He often located water where well drillers couldn't locate. He also was raising a family of four kids and a wife in a one-bedroom house where he added a bedroom shack and a 30 gallon drum that he put on the roof to collect the suns heat (for hot water) and connected to his own water well. As poor as he was he NEVER ASKED ANYONE for money to locate water wells. I use dowsing but not for locating water well.

He put them in my hands and these rods actually went against the wind to the direction i was asking questions. The treasure net forum has a dowsing section down bottom which i have been studying..... they do work but you have to think of what it is you want and it will only look for that..... no i didn't try it for gold yet but it did find coins others planted for me

    The most important thing you said in the video was that the wires were made of COPPER. Often times the dowsing rods sold in stores are made of brass...and they are not precise AT ALL with crossing when they're supposed to cross and uncrossing once you've moved away from the target...nor are iron based coat hangers nor rods made of aluminum. I've tried all these...and they pretty much suck ! Copper wire...I use 10 awg copper wire which is about the same diameter as a coat hanger...and strip the plastic coating off the wire....and put a plastic straw handle around where you grab the rods...so the rods swivel freely inside the handles. Yes, the rods will detect gold, silver, and ALL other types of metal since they don't have a discriminator button on them like some other metal detectors do. The will also detect "hot rocks", magnetite, and other iron based non desirable targets...which can be frustrating. I think their best uses are for holding over crevices to see if they're worth digging out or prying apart...and for areas where metal detectors can't reach such as over a rock or shrub or even underwater. My rods have detected minute targets 3 feet below ground...which is deeper than I care to dig...especially if it's just a construction nail in my front yard...not likely to be a treasure. This tool should be taken more seriously, though, many in the prospecting field disregard it for all kinds of reasons....like saying it's a sham since no one could prove it worked in order to claim a million dollar prize (James Randi Education Foundation)...which was a test to see if a dowser could detect water in plastic pipes that were underground. It had nothing to do with detecting metal. Anyway, the contest was terminated 5 years ago according to wikipedia. This pretty much summarized what I put in the video I posted on my channel yesterday...and gave you a shout out as a reference to the fact that it works. Albert Einstein also felt there was something to it when he was quoted saying "I know very well that many scientists consider dowsing as they do astrology, as a type of ancient superstition. According to my conviction this is, unjustified. The dowsing rod is a simple instrument which shows the uncanny reaction of the human nervous system to certain factors which are unknown to us at this time." I'm pretty sure he was thinking of dowsing for metal when he made that quote...as the other forms of dowsing may be less exact or duplicatable by most people...especially if it's map dowsing, dowsing for ghosts, missing people, or other such things that border the paranormal / telepathic sorts of fields. Nor did Einstein separate divining rods from water witching...which one might best use a forked Willow tree branch for finding underground water. It's a big field...this dowsing topic. A lot of perceived loonies do tend to pop up and try to invoke spiritual help or have intense focus or attach certain metals to the rods to direct the rods to search for just that type of metal. I can't speak for them...I just want to find gold !! So, come on, lets go !! Jeff, you're the best !

    Hey Jeff, some time back you made a video on Metal detecting in a dry wash and placing small red flags at each target (just like I do) but after that is where we differ, I don't go back with a shovel, instead I use a gas powered "Earth Auger" or one man power post hole digger with an 8" bit. I drill down three feet and pan out the sand checking first to be sure the target is there. I also check up and down the inside of the hole for a larger target, before using my boots to fill the hole back in so nobody breaks a leg. The Auger is made by Powermate and sells at Home Depot for $249. Veterans showing a Veterans I.D. or Military card get a 10% discount (which covers tax) and comes to $244.00 which at my age is better than digging all day. L8R, Rally
    P.S. The photo of me was 45 years ago.

    I have dowsed before with success for many types of things,not sure why i never thought of dowsing for gold? or quartz mineral? just to add a little info for you to try the next time your dowsing. try this have your assistant slim bury the target at a predetermined depth. now when you cross over the target and your rods cross,(centered) stop. then to determine how deep your target is in the earth,in feet,walk backwards slowly and count the steps backwards until the rods open back up to the starting position,stop. the number of steps counted going backward until the rods open to the start position,is approximately how deep your target is buried in the earth in feet.

    There's a time that I worked in the underground utilities business back in the 80s. Sure they had machines to find the underground cables and such, but nine times out of 10 they just didn't work right. I would pull my copper rods out and find the electric wire or whatever I'm looking for in the ground. Sometimes these rods will go outward, or they would go inward. The understanding I have it depends on the electrical charges you have in your own body, I don't really know exactly why some separate and why some cross that for me they always crossed. I was always 100% finding the cable I was looking for. Always

    • @dammitanothername
      @dammitanothername 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      that's great. Maybe it is electrical charges in your body. You can also ask the rods questions. I have someone else hold the rods and they can answer yes, no, maybe/IDK. You also don't have to vocalize your questions. So you can ask math questions or T/F questions, or even questions you only know the answer to. The rods will still move. Now it's getting spooky... Anyhow, I would subvocalize questions (ask questions only in my head) like: is my name questionablysourcedlunchcart? am I [my gender]? does my name end with a q? does it start with a q? that sort of thing. 100% correct every time. So, at least in our case, there's something else going on besides an electrical charge. Try it some time.

    I have a lode mine in Nevada, and generally I use a metal detector for metals location. But dowsing most certainly works--for larger magnetic fields: iron especially. Also, there is what is called the "bishops rule," and that will help you determine the depth of your find; and that is something that is very well explained on other videos here on You-tube. Thanks Jeff for your presentation here (!!), and I encourage all to give dowsing an objective try: it does work at finding larger deposits of mineralization (I would not look for small gold nuggets, flakes with it . . .).

    • @callmeBe
      @callmeBe 10 ปีที่แล้ว

      Jeff won't give you bad information. And, I use dowsing all the time to locate heavily mineralized areas and then follow with a metal detector (a Falcon: so it's focus is very specific). Yes, Desertphile, it DOES work! And, the the Bishop's rule also works--because I use that as well (and have tested it with a metal detector).

      Melina, when you begin a question with "you refuse to be educated," you already assume a certain type outcome in a response (called "begging the question" in rhetoric), so your question by definition is an unfair one. You have already made a decision by the nature of your question, so why ask? I hope that makes sense. For you, Melina, I answer: anyone who cannot pick an appropriate handle (without such terms as "bitch") is not worth consideration in real thought and time. Me: if you view my channel you will see I put great time and effort into getting the facts right (I do have a college emphasis in organic chemistry--and my degrees are in the Health Sciences), and I will not post information I have not personally tested and do not have substantive information on. You will find Jeff is very much the same way (just a different discipline, and much more funny). So in a nutshell; if you can dowse, eliminate all variables, and then metal detect to verify the dowsing results, like it or not, dowsing works (if done properly for the proper materials). And, sure enough, it does. Thanks for raising your concerns, Melina!

Thank goodness people stick with things like Dowsing. till science figures out why it does work..
    Saw a thing on Quantum theory, that Dowsing may be the real deal..So science is catching up with what people have known forever..

    I found a lost Cemetary with over 125 people buried there, in a town of 36,000 people. To this Day, I cannot figure how they lost it because it was in the center of town. However, after finding the location I used dowsing to verify burials. The Cemetary was Rail employees on the first Train tracks from Galveston to Brownwood, Texas. Later years would see People for many other reasons buried there, such as influenza, segregation, poverty. However, the process does really have merit.

    I always thought dowsing was a crock, so today I made dowsing rods out of copper wire with 6" handles for hands and 20" parts extended outwards. I went out in the yard walking around and they crossed. I marked location and checked with garrett at pro it rang there. I dug up 2 small pieces of wire. Did other locations to prove. They do react to metals in ground. I am a believer now of dowsing rods. I believe its magnetic fields and not concentrating or other garbage like that. Copper was from romex wire.

      So the rods react magnetically to any piece of wire or loose nail you find buried in the soil, but don't react to your watch, phone, or belt? You could achieve the same results by closing your eyes and throwing a dart into your backyard, then digging there. Chances are you'll find something, and if you don't, just try again until you do (ignore the times it didn't work) and presto! Look up 'ideomotor movements' if you really want to know why dowsing sticks move, the answer is, of course, actually pretty simple.

      @@johnramirez5032 How it works is not beside the point at all, because if you can't explain why it works - you're not sure that it works! The fact is, there are lots of explanations for people not finding the electrical pipes in the floor before your dad got the dowsing sticks out, and a lot of explanations for why they found them after. Look up 'James Randi dowsing' and if you're still not convinced I'll eat a hat. He creates a foolproof test and says that if anyone can show that dowsing has any reliability he would give them $50,000. Lots and lots of blokes turned up to his challenge and not a single one can take the money. The test requires them to stand over 10 different trenches and say which one has water, or gold, in it. It's important to note they weren't wrong every single time! Some of them correctly guessed which trench was right - but nobody could do it at any more than about a ~10% accuracy. Any random person without any dowsing sticks could point at the ground and tell you there's water or metal underneath and be right 10% of the time, just like your dad did with the electrical pipes. Seriously go look it up, it's a swindler's trick whether your dad knew it or not.

      @@johnramirez5032 You may have found the sewer pipe, and your dad might have found the electrical pipe, it doesn't matter, it's not impressive when a broken clock is correct twice a day either. Electricity can be explained to a 4th grader, just because you don't know how it works doesn't mean it's unknowable, in fact if you really applied yourself I'm sure you'd be able to understand electricity just fine. But nobody could ever explain how dowsing sticks work, and also nobody could ever prove that they do work. Instead, there's lots of examples of it being proven the same as any other kind of hocus pocus. I can tell by your response you didn't search youtube for James Randi's experiment, I found it for you and will send the link in the next comment (just in case youtube feels like blocking the comment because it has a link in it)

      I am going to try later when i get a day off, Rey the trick is that you have to ask the right questions and disregard all the other signals that you are not looking for as an example. If you are looking for underground water and an electric over head will mess with your rods so disregard the power lines and keep looking. the rods will pick up rebar in concrete water mains, pipes, lost wallets (mine) electric lines, and be sure to ask how deep because if you are digging a well and the rods point there it could be 800 to a thousand feet to water so be sure to ask how deep.

He had a claim with a quartz vein running thru it and had dug down about six foot in solid rock to expose it. So you could see the vein and direction of travel. When u walked across the vein on undisturbed ground the rods would cross. If u looking for oil he said hang a gallon jug with some oil in it around ur neck (not full of course) and use just plain rods without the gold. Water the same way.

    Is it better than using a metal detector Jeff?

      @@Askjeffwilliams I used a pair of copper wire dowsing rods along a creek bed...and had to dig a hole in the sand 3 feet deep in order to reach the target. It was a rock about 1 inch in size. I took it home and pulverized it and found a tiny speck of something silver. A typical metal detector would not have picked up a speck that small...nor that deep. My two battery powered detectors go down maybe 6 inches to a foot deep...depending on the size and conductivity of the metal target. I'd like to make my dowsing rods less sensitive...as that was a lot of digging for something so little in value. I'm not an electronics genius...not sure what kind of insulators to connect to my rods to make them less sensitive.

    "See how those rods lock right in?" No, but I did see how your hands rotated in. LOL

      Don’t trust others. You should test it out yourself. Go outside away from pipes and metal and put a gold ring on the ground and use two rods to see how they react as you walk around it and over it.

    I've heard Jeff that when dowsing ya wanna focus mentally on what you're looking for, be it gold, silver, copper, water, ect... any truth to that?

      TheMadness51 we heard the same thing too but since I am always thinking of Gold and Silver ( Mostly Gold ) then it is no problem.
