I always found his Boss Fight way too easy but it makes sense when you consider that Gortash isn't a fighter but a politician, while Thorm is a general and Orin is a straight up batshit insane serial killer
If you don't CC him he gets a huge shield that basically doubles his health, he activates all of the traps in the room to AoE your entire party, and he gets Bhaal's hand which makes him way stronger.
The fight design was really excellent, a big part of the fight is the enviromental traps and bomb dispensers rather than gortash himself being a menance. The game also gives you a chance to disable the steel watchers
@@GoldenEntropy He has really low constitution. Infected him with magical aids, and by the time he transformed he was perma-blind and with disadvantage on wis saving throws.
Kinda cool how Gortash relies on his guards and Steel Watchers (and traps I guess going by the achievement) to pose a challenge in this fight. Quite fitting for someone like Gortash to rely on others to feign power over others. At least compared to Ketheric, who is more than capable of handling himself, and Orin, who straight up turned into a Slayer.
It does make sense since as the chosen of Bane, who lords over tyranny and control, his main strengths are political powers and manipulation, not necessarily physical prowess It doesn't make him any less dangerous since he is the one who directed most of their actions together
@@Elidec you mean his wife? No i did not, i saved her AFTER i destroyed the steel watchers. I did it beacuse somewhat i knew they would be a problem when fighting Gortash, so i did not even try to perticipate in the ceremony, i went straight into the inner city and did some missions (steel watchers destroying included)
I only realized very recently that Gortash even had an avatar power like Orin and Ketheric due to the fact that my team usually whoops him within a round of two. Karlach put a rather swift end to him in my recent run by Gortash at this own hellfire flame spitters while a concussive grenade was about to go off right next to it. There is something beautiful and glorious about using enemies as melee and projectile weapons.
Was for me. Although I think that's because my game bugged out. I was stuck in combat from the bridge all the way to the top of the tower. I didn't even get a conversation with him.
Mine felt like a real fight but it was because he had that shield on so he was either immune or had high resistance to every damage type in the game every other turn for me. I abused malice on him but I took a bit of damage
There s something cool that i did : i was having this bottle from the lost caravan in Act 1. Anyway, i threw the bottle away and the Beholder appeared, it helped a lot in giving damage and paralysing Gortash and his allies were focusing on the Beholder. I just had to be out of the way as the Beholder attacks everybody ^^ I m so happy i used this trick ^^
Did the fight just yesterday, the whole tower just aggroed us as soon as we stepped in, no cinematic, no dialogue nothing. We pulled through using sheer brute strength but we made it eventually lmao Respect to Gortash though, he's one tough mofo
Telekinesis (to get him out of his room) and some summons with Aid up cast to level 6 and Feast of Heroes with throw build karlach makes this fight light work
He is no general, he is a politician, he does not have a profesional army of his own more than the Steel Watch. You could technically fight him on the spot when he is extremely powerful, or you could disarm his Steel Watch and make him weaker.
Im stuck at this fight now. I went to save the Archduke after killing Orin. Once I got him out I went over to try to kill Gortash. As soon as I enter Wyrm's Rock all the watchers and flaming fist are hostile. I managed to clean house downstairs, but as soon as I entered the audience hall 9 watchers started the combat with high initiative rolls. I think I may have fucked up by snagging Ravengard first.
Nah, I actually snagged ravenguard first too. Dealt with the Watchers at the same time [although this fight is def still doable with them all functional, just a bit more troublesome. you can read how i did the fight further down if you want!] I ended up getting there by going through a back route, using featherfall to get on the prison's island itself and climbing vines on one side, and then stealthing and stacking boxes to jump up a floor up from base floor. then i just waltzed right into his dining room p much lmao
I think the safest order of dealing with Gortash is to first meet him at ceremony so he finishes using Wyll's dad, which means Wyll's dad gets sent to the underwater Iron Throne. You then rescue Wyll's dad from the Iron Throne, get his related quest (quite important for story, and good loot), along with saving the prisoners if you can. Then you destroy the Steel Watch foundry, if you saved the prisoners you'll get some extra dialogue, also don't forget to get the special crafted heavy crossbow. By doing the above, you get a lot of gear and experience, and you also permanently disable the robocops, making dispatching Gortash way easier because it's just him, a few guards, and a room full of gadgets. You only need a Dex-based Sharpshooter build to clear off the gadgets and the rest of your team can focus on killing the adds and getting to Gortash himself. I save-scummed Hold Person and had a Fighter do the full damage rotation on Gortash's face with a +3 greatsword.
This fight was bugged to hell for me. Killed everyone and the game wouldn't leave combat until I went back to the basement. Not to mention the walls and objects didn't load so I was fighting invisible geometry too.
Me: Oh, we should allign with Gortash. We don't lose anything and he'll die anyway. Let's go tell him we accept after we kill Orin. Husband: Hey, we should do the steel foundry before we do! *That and killing Gortash's parents later, Gortash attacks us on sight* Me: I think he knows about the Russian hockey team.
It’s easy, i got the cutscene after the fight at my camp, I only traveled with my main char and traded the gem I looted from him from the other party members to my mc at the camp, it triggered the cutscene
Btw, you can even do this directly after the kill, go mid fight to a corner and use fly or teleportation and go one hall below, you can escape the fight with the main character and it triggered the cutscene after I traded the gem, works too if you have problems with the steelguards if you didn’t turned them of before the fight starts
We killed him in one turn. Warped to him in earth myrmidon form and when he tried to run I knocked him prone. We jumped his ass like it was jujutsu kaisen and our wizard disintegrated him to finish it off
yeah but that is the whole point of it, like, he's a tyrant, not a fighter like ketheric or an assassin like orin, it was to be expected when you pay attention to the lore, those 3 are not friends, they just "tolerate" each other in their common goal, it's a bit of a rock paper scissors thing, KT can kill orin with ease as he has the military might to take on her cult and the strength to kill orin 1v1, not to mention immortal on his own, orin is a master of infiltration and assassination, so while she can't take on ketheric (weaker than him 1v1 plus doesn't have the military power to go after nightsong, hard to infiltrate all the true souls since she herself is not tadpoled), gortash is the politician, he has by far the strongest army with not only the fist, but also the whole steel watch, he is vulnerable to orin because he has to deal with so many people he can't check them all (plus he is the 'hero' figure of bg who protects the city from the evil absolute cult so having true souls openly is a no no) he has the milutary might to march on ketheric or the gauntlet, smash the resistance, deal with balthazaar and nightsong then kill ketheric None of them can die for the ballance to hold things up, cause if orin dies, no one stops gortash from attacking KT, if KT dies no one stops orin from killing gortash and if gortash dies no one stops KT from killing orin, that's why once KT falls you can see Orin is trying to get rid of gortash (even asks hik for a reason not to kill him on act 3 intro cutscene) only reason she doesn't is bc they have a magical pact but they are already actively trying to get rid of each other (and will try to get our party to do their dirty work) So, if gortash was strong ON TOP of having his forces, he would have no reason to fear orin, thus march on KT, kill orin, make himself the sole ruler of the stones and the brain
I find it both funny and annoying that I've been trying to look up yhe locaion of the Cloak of Authority and I find said info because I saw Gortash in someones playthrough lookup the boss fight to see if he drops his cool ass clothing just to find out it's clothing I want to use for my character anyway so I get a rare collateral W lol
