I miss The Carpenter's...I'm from Downey and we used to wave at each other all the time... whenever I'd be on my bicycle running around and see them driving their Carpenter's Van around town! Mom and I ran across Karen at the ladies dept in JCPENNEY at Stonewood Shopping Center.... Eric Underwood Class of 81 Downey High school CA ✌️
Her vocals are sublime. I remember when this song was released in 1991 in the FROM THE TOP box set of the Carpenters...and how blown away I was at how polished and professional she was...to hear her sing a new song, a new tune, and something a bit different than what we were used to hearing. A real treat. And she really enjoyed making her solo album, being treated an equal in the studio meant a great deal to her...
One of the best tracks from her solo work. Richard was so worried and jealous of a solo album karen made. He was worried she would ultimately have success as a solo artist.
Absolutely right ekcopyephillips, Karen invested $400,000 of her own money on this album, and Richard didn't want it released either! Karen was devastated, according to Olivia Newton John, her best friend, and it was another low point in her life when she was looking for recognition in her own right. It was pressure from Karens fans all over the world that made Richard agree to release her solo album. I personally think it is a great album, but I am bias! lol
This is the best song from Karen solo album. It's also the most sounding "Carpenteresque" song too - sounds just like Richard would have arranged and orchestrated it. This should have been released as a single and heavily promoted. It could have been KC's only hit single.
I bet Paul Simon would've appreciated it being released . I like the original but I really like this arrangement much better. I remember how Dolly Parton was thrilled when Whitney Houston sang her song, "I will always love you", it made it a hit and popular again. Thanks for posting!
Karen Carpenter with STILL… I met my old lover on the street last night. He seemed so glad to see me. I just smiled. And we talked about some old times. And we did drink ourselves some beers. Still crazy after all these years. Oh, still crazy after all these years. I’m not the kind of girl who tends to socialize. I seem to lean on old familiar ways. And I ain’t no fool for love songs that whisper in my ears. Still crazy after all these years. Oh, still crazy after all these years. Four in the morning, crashed out, yawning, longing my life away. I’ll never worry . Why should I? It’s all gonna fade. Now I sit by my window and I watch the cars. I fear I’ll do some damage one fine day. But I would not be convicted by a jury of my peers. Still crazy after all these years. Oh, still crazy. Still crazy. Still crazy after all these years.
Never heard this before! Doesn’t seem like her style (the words) butKaren had the voice of an angel and I’ll listen to her sing anything - even the phone book!
Gives Paul a run for the money!! I am sure he has heard this one by now. So true to Paul's tune without any departure. Released on November 17, 1991 but never charted. What a travesty. :-(
Is it possible? A song written by one of my all time favourite singer-songwriters sung by 1 of my favourite female vocalists? It seems so obvious, so natural...
@no1cfielder THIS is the version that has the crazy sounding singer, and Karen after all was more crazy than Paul! And listen to the "Crazy" backing vocals - crazy as you can get. Paul Simon is/was primarily a song writer, with his singing voice not at all resonant and unemotional. This is a great arrangement, great production. It has Karen with clear voice and a higher range than where Richard would have set it. I agree with others, its a Karen classic!
I remember when this album was released. Apparently it was never intended for release and there was a lot of contoversy about it. She recored these songs just for her personal pleasure and never intended them to be release at all. But she still is, in my opinion, the greatest vocalist of the past 50 years.
Although I'm a big fan of the Carpenters and especially of Karen's singing, I find this song too slow-moving and like Paul Simon's original better, perhaps in part because he sounds as if he really could be crazy as he sings it.
Me encanta que Karen haya grabado este solo álbum, eso demuestra que tenía BOLAS (musicalmente hablando). Lástima que ni Rich ni H. Alpert tuvieron BOLAS para atreverse a sacarlo.
Sorry but she did intend to release them, she invested a lot of her own money into the project. It was well received by A&M in Europe, UK and New york, but the big honchos in L.A. hated it. So with pressure it was shelved, the official line is that she decided to shelf it, but do you really believe that after all that effort?
I would have agreed with John Pellegrino's comment until several years ago. I agree about Linda Rondstadt - among musicians she would be their choice - especially the younger version. However, several years ago i discovered Eva Cassidy who like Karen died at a young age (33) in 1996 unlike Karen, she died in virtual obscurity. Years after her death she was accidentally discovered and has gone on to sell over 10 million albums and become a cult figure. For many she is the best singer few have heard of. He versions of every gendre of music is without peer, most people thought she was a black singer - she has that much sould and touches so deeply. It is throw back to coffee houses - a singer and her guitar, singing above the clicks of drinks and chatter of the audience - the real deal, singing only for herself.Check her out on Over the Rainbow, Fields of Gold and Autumn Leaves and then Nightbird
Steven Garfinkel, I'll have to check Eva Cassidy out. the amazing thing about Ronstadt's voice is her versatility. She could sing country, rock, standards and Spanish and sing each exceptionally well
Philip James: confirmo lo que dices con esta foto donde están juntas KC y ONJ, y explica el título de la canción: s-media-cache-ak0.pinimg.com/originals/61/61/ea/6161eaa70b4333494f781ac423693993.jpg
This 21 yrs old girl is still crazy for you KC...a little bit tomboy just for you..I will re-marry you when time comes...hahaha,sorry if i dreamed alot..
La voz de Karen es muy buena, pero algo amanerada; yo creo que la de Judith Durhan y la principal cantante de Fleetwod Mc pueden ser mejores, son más naturales y bellas voces.
Phenomenal talent but I don't believe she has the best female voice of all time. I believe that honor goes to Linda Ronstadt because Linda sang so many different styles of music and had the greatest range of any female singer
Great voice. Carpenters fans may not take kindly to this, but I don't think she was well served by the schmaltzy and saccharine production that so much of their output seems to be plagued by. It renders the music terribly dated too.
We liked that schmaltzy saccharine production. If you wanted otherwise, there was always Kiss and Led Zeppelin lol. Somebody had to it. Something for everyone right? What ever floats your boat as they say

LOVE this version...great job, Karen!
she was in a league of her own...simply the best
I am such a Carpenters fan!!! Karen was such a gifted performer...simply amazing....and still the very best!!!!!
Her vocals are sublime. The voice of an angel. Gone too soon.
Such a brilliant cover of a paul simon song so impeccably done as always
Still crazy over Karen after all these years...
I’m a rock & blues fan! But something about Karen that screams… shooting star! What a loss for us mortals!
LOVE this version of this song...well done, Karen.
Still love & miss you after all these years, KC...truly excellent rendition!
There was always an element of pain in her voice. It fits this song so well.
Not only was Karen my favourite singer but she also had terrific arrangements and production, thanks to Richard.
Phil Ramone's production, not Richard's
Never realized how pretty she was and a voice from the heavens 🍂💫
Rob a stunner
@ 0:29....so gorgeous
The footage at 1:22. I've never seen it before. What a pretty face! So natural. So adorable. Who could refrain from falling in love with her?
Love this version...well done!
One of the best tracks from her solo work. Richard was so worried and jealous of a solo album karen made. He was worried she would ultimately have success as a solo artist.
It's sad. If she'd lived, she likely would have had her own career separately from him.
This &´Last one singin´ the blues´ are my favorites
@monilaninetynine3811 i think so too.
Love this...ty .. Miss Karen Carpenter
The best voice all time
Thank you Paul Simon, thank you Karen Carpenter !!!
AMEN!
Thank you indigo2302 for posting this. Superb - and such a beautiful vid montage.
FELL IN LOVE WITH HER A LONG TIME AGO! still! be still my heart!
Gosh this is a beautiful song ,,,:)xx
BEAUTIFUL!
Best female voice of all time singing one of my favourite songs.
In the years since this project’s release, Simon himself as praised this version
Yep, still the best of all time. RIP
She will always be No.1 ...
Karen was the best...in every way
Absolutely right ekcopyephillips, Karen invested $400,000 of her own money on this album, and Richard didn't want it released either! absolutely perfect....very high Performance 👍

OMG! Even better than the original!😮
A very classy cover of paul simons classic
Best voice of all time

Karen eres adorable tienes una vos angelical eres una mujer maravilllsa.❤Q.D.E.P.
Fantastic
Great vocals. Nice guitar solo too.
Beautiful Lady we lost way too soon
Sou apaixonado. Pela voz d karen k
Lovely ~

Karen loved it and called it a "great fucking record". The record company didn't want to release it.
re 3:52 Supersister was a Dutch band.
Paul simon #1
Nice.
la mejor cantando.
tenkz dude

@no1cfielder my sentements exactly could not have said it any better!

This is great, but would better if in some places the music wasn't louder than her vocals.
Se nota por las imágenes de Karen, que le gustaba embromar y hacer chistes que respirar.
where can i find the clip 00:05???
i cant seee it
Richard was just jealous that Karen would make it bigger without him!
Karen just needed the confidence. She was very dependent on Richard and didn't realize how great she was in her own right.
amazing vocals. the only funny part is the footage of her singing during the guitar solo xD
I never cared for Paul Simons voice nor most of his material. Karen and Phil knocked this out of the park.
Still crazy after all this years.....
Screw what Paul Simon said. Just damn jealous.
This 21 yrs old girl is still crazy for you KC...a little bit tomboy just for you..I will re-marry you when time comes...hahaha,sorry if i dreamed alot..
She looks so thin in these pictures!
Voice of an angel maybe but I don't like the arrangement and overall it adds nothing to Simon's sublime original ...
La voz de Karen es muy buena, pero algo amanerada; yo creo que la de Judith Durhan y la principal cantante de Fleetwod Mc pueden ser mejores, son más naturales y bellas voces.
😴 yes too crazy to eat! Oops
You're cold and really sick. Your statement is cold and pathetic. 😎
Love Karen but this cover was a bit over produced. Missing the simplicity of her raw voice and talent.
In a word, no....
Phenomenal talent but I don't believe she has the best female voice of all time. I believe that honor goes to Linda Ronstadt because Linda sang so many different styles of music and had the greatest range of any female singer
Ronstadt tended 2have "brassy" tonal qualities on her higher notes in ballads.
Coupydog, yea she didn't scream like Streisand and Mariah Carey. Linda's voice was more soothing
Streisand never SCREAMED
How Dare you call her crazy . you are very very crazy 😠
Great voice. Carpenters fans may not take kindly to this, but I don't think she was well served by the schmaltzy and saccharine production that so much of their output seems to be plagued by. It renders the music terribly dated too.
YES. somebody should do a remix project on her entire collection.
We liked that schmaltzy saccharine production. If you wanted otherwise, there was always Kiss and Led Zeppelin lol. Somebody had to it. Something for everyone right? What ever floats your boat as they say
Norfolk Enchants I am a Carpenters fan and I just can't stop listening to her solo album. #Carpenters4ever
I don't like the backing vocals on this one. Totally dispensable.
