I just heard this song for the 1st time and I like it a lot. I feel so sad for Karen that she was denied to release this record back in 1980. I've read Little Girl Blue and I can't help but think that Richard may have felt threatened that she could be a success without him. Weather true or not, they should have left the decision to her and Phil Ramone to release it...Greatly loved and missed. Karen Carpenter forever.
friendofGhosts kinda around the same timeframe that Peter Cetera was denied his first solo album commercial release. Two great voices, lots of talent on this song right here.
Richard Carpenter was nothing without Karen! She was The Carpenter's! He was only piano player! To this day, he still is riding on the coat tail of his dead sister!
This is so different. I know she was stretching herself and going for a different sound. It's good that she did this. At least we get to hear other sides of her voice, but it's still her voice.
She was so sweet and beautyful!!! I think that she's singing to God in heaven with the other angels!!!... God bless you Karen!!!... with love from Peru your fan! Greetings Ruben :)
I love this song soooo much. Nice vocals. I wish there is more on the internet about Karen Carpenter's solo album sessions and even her meeting Michael Jackson. The guitar in the instrumental really keeps me in the groove. Too bad it was not released during the time it was recorded. It might've been a big hit. Soft rock with nice vocals. I don't want to refer to Richard as a bad person but he could have supported her and stood against shelving the entire album. "Little Girl Blue" says he did little to promote it. Too bad.
Yeah, this song if it were released back then would've charted pretty well imo. Richard was getting off ludes at the time and I believe that he didn't want her to have a successful recording on her own without him being involved, or to go disco since some of the songs were flavored disco. Plus, the slightly provocative themes of the songs didn't fit with the "image" of the wholesome Carpenters prior catalog of hits. Controlling much?
im not sure they dated, I know that Phil Ramone produced this album and this was around the same time he was producing Chicago's album after Chicago left Guercio. So maybe that's why Cetera is on this album. I never heard anything about them dating.
+Ron C Yeah, this song is great. It was a step in the right direction at the time. Everyones used to Richards great piano arrangements but the guitar in this song is great. Can only imagine what awesome material they would have released if Karen was still here. Im so sick of the Carrie Underwoods and Faith Hill crap. It all sounds the same. Karen is the best!!
+Eric Stewart The first thing I bought when I started getting an allowance at 12 (1972) was Carpenters album Close To You. My heart still mourns. A great lady , up there with the likes of Cass Elliot, Anita O'Day and Maria Callas.
Her solo had lot of top music professionals from Quincy Jones, Peter Cetera and even the great Steve Gadd played in this album. One thing i resented was that they didn't release it. Flop or hit should ve released it. One of the major devastating disappointments the other her failed marriage that if was released, she would have not been so vulnerable and desperate finding a man and may have prevented taking the laxatives and abuse of epecac syrup thinking it would maintain her weight which really was the cause of her death, not the anorexia.

You know after reading thousands of comments on you tube, I'm really amazed at how little people really know about the Carpenters, but when you read alot of crap people write they try to convince you, that this is the way it was. The truth is unless you knew Karen, Richard, the band, or anyone in the posse you don't know. Richard knew that people would try to paint him as the bad guy. But let everyone in on a secret don't believe everything you hear, or read. He does so much good for the world!
the background is against her, as with most upbeat disco, Karen was a singer who was enhanced by Richards softer use of instruments to blend with her beautiful voice

There's a lot I like about her solo album. This tune isn't one of those things. It's lyrically vacuous and, musically, it barely registers. Peter and she are an ill-fitting combination because Peter simply doesn't blend with her. It's more his fault than hers, really. He also wrote the song which compounds the sin. He wrote some great songs. This just isn't one of them - at least not to my ears.
It was the Ipecac medicine that really killed her....weakened her heart. She basically killed herself the last 6 months of her life. I just read "Little Girl Blue"....great book.
I hear depth but a different type of depth - it's called joyful and light-hearted. Not every song a singer sings has to be dark and mournful to be good. Karen was stepping out of her "sad little girl" sound and getting out of her introverted sound to bring forth a fun and extroverted style. Yes, Debbie Gibson could have sang this song but not quite with the same sunny feel in the voice. Karen had a smile in her voice as she sang this song and that is a great and good feeling optimistic depth which I enjoy hearing from Karen!!!
Never get sick of this song!
A floating, billowing pillow of a song that never fails to light up and warm my insides. And her double tracked vocals on the bridge are seamless.

Gorgeous Karen what a voice.

I just bought the last available CD of this album on Amazon...WINNER!!!!
That's Peter Cetera from the band Chicago singing on the backing vocals.
I loved this song the first time I played it. And, I still love it.
The Karenker Penter, the best singing voice.
I remember my youth.
I think I'll listen to a song for the rest of my life.
She was beatiful and angel voice
Beautiful song
omg I love this song so much
Linda voz , para la eternidad , gracias Karen.

Personally I love this song! And how she and Peter sound together...

Preciosa canción, graciar por el video.
That's Peter Cetera of Chicago doing the guest harmony vocal, right?
Yep. He also wrote this song.
With a bit more work I think this could have been a hit for Karen. I love Karen's overdubbed vocals on the choruses. Karen X 3!
Peter Cetera is singing the harmonies
Is it true that she dated Peter Cetera?
+renarga
Hardly true, dunno where u heard this?

Peter wrote this song.
@@Rylan101 I doubt it. Karen was very sick when she recorded this album.
Karen looked so great even her hair shorter.pretty song.
💘❤️❤️❤️❤️
Sounds good to me, everyone sounds different solo. RIP

I like this one too ❤️ I love Peter Cetera also. This must've been from KAC'S solo album??
Yep
Richard Carpenter was nothing without Karen! She was The Carpenter's! He was only piano player! To this day, he still is riding on the coat tail of his dead sister!
This is so Wilson Phillips. I could easily hear Chyna and Wendy swapping lead.

when did they actually recorded this?
While Richard was in rehab (late 1979) Karen recorded her self titled LP with this song written by Peter Cetera
1980 probably
the background is against her, as with most upbeat disco, Karen was a singer who was enhanced by Richards softer use of instruments to blend with her beautiful voice

@jnrdryden1 Oooh. Burnnnnn....
@Nostaljack.... think it's time ur ears had a wax clean.
Karen sounds more like Olivia Newton johns style here.

and Thyroid pills.

again, no depth to karen's vocals here; debbie gibson could have sung this without much difference. sorry, karen
