  • In this video we take a look back at the 1984 film, Night of the Comet and explore just why it is so popular with Gen X and movie fans in general.
Living In The Past is a channel about revisiting pop culture from the past. Hosted by Jeremy Scott and Devin Kleffer (along with Carl the Intern), these two (three) friends can’t help but revisit the movies and TV shows that they loved from their younger years. Come along and get a little nostalgic with us as we look back, enjoy, and ask the important question: is it still OK to like this stuff?

I saw this for the first time only 2-3 years ago. I had heard a LOT about it in recent years, but, somehow, it slipped through my teenage watch patrol…I LOVE IT!!

Love this. This is one of those movies that escaped my youth, and lived on in my memory as I movie I never saw, but saw everywhere over the years. When you showed the copy of the old newspaper with the NOTC poster, I recognized it instantly. I just saw this movie in the last few years and I must say it is so very charming, in it's themes and visuals. I wished I had seen it when I was a kid because I would have liked to hang out with these rad babes for ninety minutes.

Thanks for commenting! I think it really made an impression on kids in the 80s.

It’s liked because it’s great. This was one of those films that channel 4 would show as part of a sci-fifantasy season back in the 80’s, like The Keep it A Boy and his Dog. It also shows that women didn’t have these sorts of roles as crap.

This is one of those rare movies that I saw and enjoyed when it was new but have not rewatched since. This video filled in some of the hazy memories of red-tinted skies and people turned to dust, I could have described specific shots but not characters or plot. it's got me thinking about why we remember some details and not others from childhood.

It is interesting isn't it? I have a few of those films that are elusive... I can't quite remember all of it, but there are a few images that stand out.

In the UK, during the 80s, director Alex Cox would host a show called Moviedrome. He would present a cult movie, talk about it and then they would screen films like Repo Man, Rumblefish and where I first saw Night of the Comet. It’s still one of my favourite ‘zombie’ movies
