  • Citroen has been on a roll lately. Its Ami is a fantastic smack in the face for overweight electric SUVs, while the family friendly e-C4 and C5 X show quirky Citroens don’t have to be weird. Now Citroen has decided to combine all of the great things we love about the e-C4 and the C5 X into one car.
    This is the result, the Citroen e-C4 X. Citroen is calling it a fuses the 'elegant silhouette of a fastback with the modern look of an SUV' - marketing babble or straight-talking sense,? I find out

    It's a classy brilliantly designed car that deserves to do well. It's not another boring SUV which is also good. I think the the E-C4X is better looking than the e-C4 too

      I think the ec4x's rear is pretty than the ec4. It's less cluttered. I also can't think of the last time I needed my hatchback's opening, but I can remember all the times it has dripped into the boot when opened after rain.

    I was thinking it looks like a Polestar 2 from the rear 3-quarter view, so your S60 comparison is apt.

      It’s pretty enough to rear end. Front is not for the faint hearted.

    Given a proper hatch, this car would far outsell the normal C4 in the UK.

    I maintain that this shares the same issue as the new Toyota Crown, it should have had a hatchback tailgate for a much more usable opening and a shot at challenging the coupé SUV segment. At least the e-C4X has a larger vertical opening than most sedans.

    Nice design, they’re about to replicate it on a downscaled crossover named Basalt in south America, too bad it won’t be this nice or refined as they are planning to place it as a cheap crossover.

    There is a reason for the higher built saloon so that people no longer feel as though they fall down into the seats and are 6 inches from the floor in BMW and Mercedes saloons. The raised saloons are the future.

    This is a good design if you can’t afford a new ev there are a few good deals on used electric low mileage, if you don’t fancy the ev you’ve got petrol and diesel manual and automatic to suit all budgets, I’ve seen the interior and the build quality is excellent, plenty of room in the rear, with great suspension and smooth ride , a good car for couples or families without breaking the budget

    this car has just two flaws.... that might be fatal on EU markets 😟... 1st - it has a boot lid instead of 5th door, and 2nd - its wheelbase is too short for its length, which makes its rear end look massive and the whole car weirdly proportioned....
    shame, because the design of its rear end is actually pretty good! it's definitely far better than 99.9% of all "hatch to saloon conversions" up till now! in fact, it is so good that - despite the fact that the car is down to the end edge of the rear doors identical to regular C4 - one could hardly tell that this is just a "hatch with an added trunk (popularly called "thalia" 😋)! personally I find its rear 3/4 view far better than that of Renault Arkana!
    so, if not by anything else, this C4 X is a clear sign that building C4 III on a B segment CMP platform was a mistake.... just imagine how sexy would it look (and how practical vehicle it would be) if it would be made on Peugeot 308 SW/408 basis....

    what doesn't get mentioned here is the small battery size. I get that this saves weight and not everyone needs a lot of horsepower, but a small battery size means less range and in a couple of years you will have even much less range because the battery will deteriorate. So you won't want to keep it but nobody will want to buy it because of the very small range (take into account in a couple of years EV's will get a bit cheaper while range will get better). Of course the other brands' batteries will also deteriorate, but I'd rather start with 64 kWh than 50kWh, which means I will still have the range in let's say 8 years that the eC4X has now.

    • @oliverstemp9132
      @oliverstemp9132 ปีที่แล้ว

      They’ll probably be an update very shortly with about 260 miles of range, all it’s siblings have been updated already

    • @CampGareth

      I think that's a pessimistic view of battery degradation. I drive a 10 year old Nissan Leaf 24kwh. It has lost about 20% of its capacity, a modern car that takes better care might only lose 10% in that time. Additionally some cars eat into their top and bottom buffers as they age to avoid noticeable degradation, e.g. A hyundai ioniq. The Citroën has a 5kwh buffer so it could have 45kwh usable for the next decade if it's been set up that way.
      As for size, there's diminishing returns from going bigger as a heavier battery reduces efficiency and increases cost. Maintaining efficiency and reducing cost should be the goal I think. I recently did a 270 mile journey in my Leaf and stopped 7 times. A hyundai ioniq 28kwh reduces that to 2 stops which is a huge improvement but an ec4 also needs 2, the 60% extra usable battery capacity doesn't improve the journey as it's a much less efficient car. It does cost more though...

      Who keeps a car 8yrs?Come on!

    • @ivo4357
      @ivo4357 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@petermclelland278 do you actually understand the point I'm trying to make? It doesn't matter if you keep your car for 8 years or sell it before that, what matters is that the car should still be on the road by then, driven by you or the next owner. And then the battery's deterioration becomes an issue. And second hand buyers won't pay full price for a car with a small battery that has deteriorated. The same with combustion engines: high mileage cars with bigger engines are still worth more than high mileage cars with a tiny engine (the tiny engine losing horsepower is worse than a big engine losing horsepower).
