      UK Railway Hub Did the tone rate change because of the second approaching train?

    • @UKLevelCrossingsChannel
      @UKLevelCrossingsChannel  7 ปีที่แล้ว +13

      Yes. With level crossings in the UK, the alarm increases in speed when a second train is approaching. It is to warn pedestrians and road users not to cross as the level crossing is remaining closed for another train.

      I find the alarm irritating. There should be no need for it to continue once the barriers are lowered.

    This seems like a very old and worn down crossing. The red and white border is now orange and white, the lights are halogens and the border paint is faded not to mention the other sound for the second train! Nicely shot!!

    • @UKLevelCrossingsChannel
      @UKLevelCrossingsChannel  6 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Thanks very much. Yeah, all these crossings on the miniature railway line are early 1980s so the lights are at least 30 years old. The barriers & alarms are not as old (installed early 2000s through to 2010).

    I find it weird that the Amber signal is only as long as the default road traffic signal hold. Hardly seems worth the effort.

    • @UKLevelCrossingsChannel
      @UKLevelCrossingsChannel  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Well I guess it acts as a preliminary warning before the red lights start to show just like traffic lights. I wonder if drivers would stop more abruptly if it was only red lights flashing, instead of the amber light beforehand

    • @philt4346
      @philt4346 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@UKLevelCrossingsChannel I would order it thus: a period of flashing amber with audio equivalent to a pedestrian traversing the crossing, then straight into red phase with barriers.

    WHAT'S THE YELLOW LIGHT FOR?? I was in the U.K. and never saw the yellow light flash.

    • @UKLevelCrossingsChannel
      @UKLevelCrossingsChannel  6 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      The yellow light on level crossing lights has been in existence since 1968. The 'wigwag' is suppose to look similar to a UK traffic light, with a yellow light and red light.

    • @yixnorb5971
      @yixnorb5971 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      It should have a FUNCTION rather than just looking like a traffic light, which it does not.

    • @ShadowriverUB
      @ShadowriverUB 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      yixnorb it has it warning that light will go red to avoid shadden breaks which is dangerus, it is legal to cross on yellow light same as in traffic light. Germany also have same yellow light in crossing, in fact there lights look like traffic light without green light

    • @Martindyna
      @Martindyna 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      yixnorb The yellow light is a warning that the crossing is about to close.
      The yellow light is good also since it is brighter than the red lights usually and so draws the road users attention.
