Those are Forest City Wig-Wags these are! There's still a few in use, like at that narrow swing bridge on the outskirts of Beverly I saw on my journey to Hornsea, when a wrong turning got taken.
The approaching train "2" can be heard at 1:15, so long before the signals trigger, at 1:34, and in addition vapour coming out of the steam locomotive can be seen at 1:28, when it whistles. In fact, those who dare to ignore the red lights when flashing are risking their lives, as the level crossing has no gates.
I believe someone living in the house on the right would have looked out the window and see that train passing through the level crossing and his house
+Nathan A RF It's being replaced with as-near-as-we-can equipment to NR standards, same as we did with Pont Croesor A & B in June. The wigwags will be replaced with Dorman LED units, and an additional one added to better protect the approaches from Glanypwll Road and North Western Road. There'll be no change to the PW layout. I'm an F&WHR volunteer, and a new works S&T Tester-in-charge by trade.
***** I might come back next year! Also, do you know about Stwlan Dam and Quarry Lane? Will they be upgraded too? And I have always wondered whether the second track across the crossing here will ever be used. Will it?
+Nathan A RF Quarry Lane is next on the to-do list, with Stwlan Road a little way behind. Glanypwll will probably never use the second track, but if the option of putting it in in 1980 hadn't been taken, then it would have been lost, and at least this way it remains should it ever be needed (which is unlikely unless the oft-mooted branch to Llechwedd ever materialises)

You cam really hear the engine puffing and chugging.
I remember travelling on this route, I always heard level crossings, I always used to hear weird sirens and I always got worried. That was in 2011.

Those are some really old signals. Nice find!
They've been replaced with LEDs now, about 2 months after I filmed this.
Nathan A RF Well that's a shame. Reminds me of some of the crossings I've filmed.
What I'm gonna tell you is quite hilarious. They're still there on Google earth!
Great videos of a nice crossing, I like the alarm sound too IMO 👍
Good thing there LED now because the crossing before it looks really old and now its look newer with the LEDs nice video by the way 😉
0:38 I like the second whistle!
Me too at 0:39
RIP Halogens D:
My Dad used to live in this house when he was a young from the 1930s to 1950s
What house? The one next to the tall light?
@@tonyowen9756 The old Ffestiniog Railway Hostel building....
it seems that the open crossing cross is fading away
I believe someone living in the house on the right would have looked out the window and see that train passing through the level crossing and his house
It looks like the same train we seen at Minffordd
Come back again after December 19th, when we will have rebuilt this crossing completely. What is here goes out of service just over a week from today.
+John Savage Will it be replaced with equipment like on the WHR? Do you work at the F&WHR?

+John Savage I've seen how the crossing has been updated now
I'd like to see a video of it with the new LED lights
Hopefully a video should be up in about a month :)
That would be great :-D
Can someone please tell me how to read "Glanypwll" and some other words like the "Stwlan dam" correctly? Im really struggling with these words.
The sounds are different in Welsh for certain letters. For example the w is an "oo" and the ll is a kinda "thl" sound with the tongue.
Weird how the amber light turns on then off, a few seconds later the red lights come on.
Roshni or yodalarm sounder?
+John Collins I am not too sure
Nathan A RF probably roshni sounder
+Joel Harris that is a yodalarm
Roshni alarms can sound like a Yodalarm depending on the settings
+John Collins it's E2S
Alarms sound like minehead level crossing
Looks like sandymount level crossing wig wags
Was that the new crossing or the old one
Has the FR had any incidents on any of its crossings? I've not heard of any myself.
Not that I know of
01:38 Lights have gone out of sync.
What a brilliant idea , putting a slightly darker grey cross, on a light grey back-ground.I wonder what idiot thought of that????????
Firefly West
