I tend to have a love/hate relationship with Metallica. On the one hand, it really is a beautiful game, with deep rules and really nice flow, so if you see someone who really does try to go for everything available, it can be quite the sight to behold. It's also really fun to play because there really is so much to do at any given time. On the other hand, Electric Chair Multiball is so disproportionately valuable in comparison to everything else that it's one of the most boring games to watch, especially in a competitive environment, as most players instantly go for "Sparky All Day" and practically abandon the rest of the table. It's gotten so bad than whenever I'm watching a tournament video and I see Metallica come up, I immediately skip over it, because who wants to spend ten minutes watching four players shoot one target over and over again? Granted, it's not Kings of Right Tar- er, Steel bad, but it comes close. You'd think that, after seeing that style of play dominate Metallica for years, Stern would patch the game either to make EC Multiball more difficult or to bring its value more in line with everything else. I used to have much the same opinion with Star Trek, aka "time out all the modes", but when Stern patched it to make the modes actually worth playing, it immediately changed my opinion of it to where it's now one of my all-time favorites. Metallica could easily be up there as well.
Interesting point. I'm gonna be playing Metallica today and I'm gonna be going for Sparky a lot and I'll see how valuable it is compared to everything else. If it's fun I can appreciate it but I liked your point about how it could be boring to watch.
Your right. I hate when players who play in a pinball tournament go for easy shots to not lose there ball. Its like when I play Sega South Park and players just kill Kenny over and over and over and over and over. It's also kinda bad if they do this because if some people try to play the game as intended and score big in return, players who don't take risks are fucked. I would also love a code update on this game.
I own 5 machines, but no Stern... Why do people hate on stern? I like some of their pins (have played a few) but wonder why the hatred... Clearly they aren't JJP.
I prefer to play my Walking Dead, Iron Man or Metallica than Hobbit or Dialed In... Why JJP is better? It's more expensive too, you can buy a Met Pro and a Walking Dead Pro for the price of a JJP, and for now no JJP code are better than the code of TWD
7:45 -- I just watched the Lyman Sheats interview with Bryant Gumbel in 1993 and Lyman played a little and there's this moment where he's trying to hit this shot exactly like the one you're trying to hit. He tries twice, traps it, and the third time is the charm because he luckily ricocheted it into his target. He was clearly surprised, like "okay" but Bryant said "very good!" I guess history repeats or something, I don't know. All I know is when I get a lucky shot, it's always because of my skills!
Thanks for making this. I have never seen the "crank it up" mode before. Why? Because instead of 15 each, the machine I play on is set to 50 each! Not kidding.
After you collect the Sparky Multiball jackpot, is there a series of lit chair shots that need to be hit to relight the sparky jackpot, or can you just keep hitting sparky and get multiple jackpots?
RIP Lyman. I am never selling my Metallica; I consider it his masterpiece.
I'm assuming that during the Lady Justice round that any bass frequencies are suppressed?
Naturally
Without a doubt the best tutorials around. Thanks Bowen
Strange to see just how far the code has come since this was recorded

Metallica is really a great pinball.
You almost forget Stern made it.

Anyone else spot the cow in the snake vomit at 16:17? Cool to see cows are still a thing!
Fantastic Bowen tutorial as always :)

Nice, but I miss the days of original pinball concept created from the ground up AS pinball.
just got my Metallica Pro - great game and brutal at times :) Thanks for this tutorial

Can we get another one of these bowin.
"measured by thirds" ...nice :D ,no flat five's in there ? :p
Why do all Stern left flippers hum when held?
Because they use PWM for the hold mode.
+Carl Spiby but why only the left one tho?
BAO!
Anyone have a link to Keith's billion game on Metallica?
my left flipper makes the same buzzing noise dangit!
Looks like you have a case of EM flipper-tosis.
These pinballs are one of a kind. A kiss pinball was made. Not sure of the manufacturer.
Bally
@@crystalbeacharcade8606 Stern did a remake and more modern Kiss pinball five years ago!
Watching this video it occurred to me... Metallica has become Kiss.
@larls Trurh hurts, doesn't it? :D
is 333 million much in this game?
On factory settings Yes.
That’s a killer score
great ,i buy in fhuter....
Aren't you a competitive player? Do you ever worry that these videos allow your opponents to scout your game?
Most use the same strategy on Metallica. So nothing to give away. Bash Sparky.
I hate sweet potatoes
Could have spoken less and let people hear the soundtrack and call outs.
I know when I watch a tutorial, I don't want the person making the video to talk at all...
MenaceFan we aren't all deaf dumb blind kids.. it's a tutorial! speaking about how to play the game is the concept. c'mon man
There’s a video called Metallica Pinball “Gameplay”. Search for that, eejit.
