Love the "Death Saves" Bowen. Even just watching you play allows me to learn better technique. Great tutorial of one of my new most favorite games. I think everyone that has ever played Spiderman will be impressed with your 1.3 billion point score on that game at the Pinball Wizard arcade tournament!
I found you can start a mode, start the vengeance battle and lock third ball in left scoop and have them all stacked. This leads to huge points and helps avoid center drains in Vengeance battle because ball save is on. If you have super ramps too, look out. Huge score!!
SO true about the LAME Skill shot! I'm glad they are doing the hold left flipper for super skill shot! I notice I still do that from playing Williams games... Like MM. Also, you kept calling it "NERD"... Not "Nero" and that was confusing for a bit. Over all fantastic game play and education lesson! Thanks guys for posting this! -Aaron from WeBuyPinball
Ahhhh... The Abramsverse Trek. For a second there i thought this was the old TOS pinball or the TNG pinball. The Abramsverse Trek pinball is a lot of fun. I wish Nu-Trek itself had been as engaging. Anyway great job on the pinball machine. That score is incredible.
During Vengeance Battle, you can double your jackpot for destroying it by combo-ing it like anything else. For example, if you shoot a ramp and then shoot it immediately into Vengeance, you'll score a 10M jackpot rather than 5M. Definitely always worth trying for. Also, your double scoring shots from completing a third tier mission DOES carry over balls. That Nero shot you made on the right ramp should've been 325K, but it was worth 650K instead.
Is that what that weird sound is supposed to be all this time? Ive always wondered, I thought it was a glitch in the audio board like the cpu has an error; it sounds terrible. I cant believe thats supposed to be a knocker..yikes what were they thinking. A knocker is literally a single solonoid..what a drop in quality just to save $3 a game.
From watching the dot matrix and knowing the movies like I do I can tell that there is a distinctive difference in the story sequence. The modes are like the scenes in the movies and stacking them in 3 parts comes off like a beginning-middle-end of a scene. There is a different animation up there for each layer of the mode. I feel like that shows a lot of effort on the part of the design team, though it is to the benefit of bystanders to the game since no one playing has any time to look up at that screen (at least at my level of ability, I sure don't).
Bowen - thanks for this! Great stuff. Question - at 11:00 in, you "stage" the right flipper, dropping the top right flipper while keeping the lower one up. How the heck do you do that?
So what defines a combo shot? If I make a shot and then I make it how long before I need to make another shot? Am I only allowed one flipper press? (If not, that means that I can't cradle the ball because that requires > 1 flipper pushes?) Maybe it is defined by after hitting a target, hit another lit target without hitting anything else (side bumpers, pops, etc.) ?
This is great. I wonder why he is attempting the death saves though? Even when he slap saved he got a warning, so wouldn't a death save tilt the table no doubt every time?
I just finished a game on this at a craft beer bar and I was ready to play Kobayashi Maru multiball but the Vengeance shot doesn’t work properly so it keeps ejecting my ball, because of this I can’t play Vengenace multiball properly or get an extra ball. I was stuck and couldn’t progress any further. That tells me this bar doesn’t take care of their machines and it really pisses me off.
I was playing the other day and 'Special' was activated and you had to shoot the Away Team under the top flipper. I did it and kind of not sure what happens. What is that supposed to do exactly?
I am not a pinball guy, but recently I played this at my local arcade and watched this video for two reasons. 1.) What happens during and after the Khan fight. 2.) What happens during and after the Captain's chair. I watched your video and it's great, I just did not hear/see anything about these parts.
John Kupsa This is old code now and there have been a number of changes that could invalidate some of the info in the video but in general it still applies. I haave played the latest code but I don't understand some of the changes yet - such as shooting away team under the top flipper not starting a new mode all the time. I think the the answers to your questions with respect to what happens after, are much the same - You collect an award and move on. Captains chair lights (unless it's been changed) when you get 3 modes lit in a row. Each row of 3 awards increased scoring for a different part of the playfield. I cant think which one Khan is to tell you what happens during - as with most, just hit the lit shots ;)
Boy, you look back at this tutorial after playing the latest software version (I think the latest is 1.62), the scoring back then was far lower and there were far less opportunities and light effects then there are now. This game has gone quite a long way
He answered the last question that what happens when you light a side to the triangle with all level 3 that "nothing happens" because he said when he did it and nothing happened... but he actually he wasn't able to close out the Drill at the end. so really that's still unclear.
Is it just me or do these stern games seem to lack a lot of passion and game play design. I cant quite touch upon it. Look great in an arcade no doubt but for the player it has to be an 80s/90s pin, and for the appearance of the toys and shots. I don't know something is missing
+Harry Woolmore I just play for fun.was lucky to be around when pinball was everywhere.I don't care for the newer machines, as much as the older ones. You're correct, something is missing.i could really do with out plastic heads, hands etc.too.
The game is even better since the 1.61 update. Collecting medals instead of just timing out has taken this table to another level. Great video!
Quick access:
=== 6 MODES ===
2:11 Space Jump
4:20 Prime Directive
6:50 Save the Enterprise
8:46 Destroy the Drill
12:35 Nero
14:21 Klingon Battle
=== MULTIBALL ===
4:39 Vengeance Multiball
9:34 Klingon Multiball
15:25 Kobayashi Maru Multiball
The tutorials are well done, but Bowen's commentary just takes it to another level making these pretty entertaining LOL XD
So awesome to see pinball still alive & kicking! Viva la pinball!

You sir, are a true pinball wizard.
Ahhhh... The Abramsverse Trek. For a second there i thought this was the old TOS pinball or the TNG pinball. The Abramsverse Trek pinball is a lot of fun. I wish Nu-Trek itself had been as engaging. Anyway great job on the pinball machine. That score is incredible.
Great video. Really impressed with what you folks have done getting papatv off the ground. Money well spent!

I hate the "knocker" sound coming from the speakers on newer Stern machines. Why not just put a knocker?
+Chris Capaccio the Stern Knockers often make me have jump scares sometimes
Short answer: lowers maintenance costs
Is that what that weird sound is supposed to be all this time? Ive always wondered, I thought it was a glitch in the audio board like the cpu has an error; it sounds terrible. I cant believe thats supposed to be a knocker..yikes what were they thinking. A knocker is literally a single solonoid..what a drop in quality just to save $3 a game.
Fantastic Video! Thank you for taking the time to make these.

Thanks for giving us the finger at 33:51 Bowen! Great tutorial. Can't wait to find one in the wild.
Bowen - thanks for this! Great stuff. Question - at 11:00 in, you "stage" the right flipper, dropping the top right flipper while keeping the lower one up. How the heck do you do that?
Hold the flipper button in halfway. There's a small window but it is possible, and other players can do it a lot more consistently than I can.
Excellent game and marvelous pinball !!!
Whenever you have the strobing shot in klingon multiball can you just press the button when its on the center to collect it?
These are incredibly helpful for Pinball dummies like me! Thanks a lot!
Thank you Mr. Pinball Ambassador! and thank you Papa TV.
Great tutorial. There are a lot of things the game doesn't spell out for you and it's nice to know what the incentive is for difficult objectives.
So what defines a combo shot?

How do you stand at the machine to always be ready to shake it?
This is great. I wonder why he is attempting the death saves though? Even when he slap saved he got a warning, so wouldn't a death save tilt the table no doubt every time?
Watching the animation on the DMD during Klingon Battle, I didn't know that phasers had recoil! :)
Ironically the bug shows just minutes after you mention it. 21:01 says 393222 shots left.
Is this pinball table newer than Star Trek the next generation pinball table.
"Friggin' NERDs!"
LMAO.
Great stuff.
What exactly does the "shield" targets on the left do?
Nothing yet. In the LE they light the kickback on the left outlane.
thank you for this, if u have time make a new one please with the 1.5 code.
Thanks 4 another awesome tutorial Bowen!
can't wait until this is released digitally
Nothing like the real thing
When lighting three missions and a row and obtaining super spinner, pops or ramps is this held over for all remaining balls or just the ball in play?
It's not completely clear but these awards appear to carry over from ball to ball.
Bowen Kerins
What's the best strategy? Super pop's first?
fearthechin I think the awards may all be worth the same in total. I prefer Super Ramps since you're usually having to make those shots anyway.
I just finished a game on this at a craft beer bar and I was ready to play Kobayashi Maru multiball but the Vengeance shot doesn’t work properly so it keeps ejecting my ball, because of this I can’t play Vengenace multiball properly or get an extra ball. Special awards can change varying on the machines setting. It can either award a credit, some points, or an extra ball.
24:10 was simply beautiful, precision timing.
how come on my machine the points continue to climb even if ur not doing anything?
I just played this yesterday at a bowling alley it was very fun!

Bowen, do you think you can revisit this game? It would help everyone else since the software changes after this one were very significant
we just got this game in my company's office... its great. thx so much for this. i hope this game doesnt get me fired LOL
Adam Lewis well?
Nerd mode...haha! Love this pinball though.
The one zi play its almost impossible to combo warp, let alone get one
You killed it!!!!!!
The one I play, you have to cradle the ball almost constantly. Comboing is just nonexistent
He answered the last question that what happens when you light a side to the triangle with all level 3 that "nothing happens" because he said when he did it and nothing happened... but he actually he wasn't able to close out the Drill at the end. so really that's still unclear.
See you guys @ SPF!
Avengers tutorial please
"Oh boy,.. ohhhh boy...... OH BOY!... I was lucky to survive that. Let's get back to regular controlled play" .
Another, Bowen, "Hotdogs!"
The table layout looks like the other Star Trek table.
The Enterprise when it shakes looks really dorky.
It's not the Enterprise, it's the Vengeance. And no, it doesn't look dorky.
napabar For $7k, it looks dorky.
seeburg220 Nope.
That's not the Enterprise. You big dummy.
nerd? lol, it's Nero.
Omg... It's Nero.... Not nerd. Have u not seen the movie!
Pretty sure he is being facetious, since he calls it by the correct name during the video also.
+Neal Joslyn Hmm... Didn't hear him say Nero once.
8:42 is the first time he says it (correctly).
THIS Pinball WORTH LIKE 6.7674.146$
