    Now that was info packed and a eye opener for people that haven’t been to the dyno room in the procedure and time it takes to hunt for a great running engine. Thanks Andy, well done.

    Formula 1 engineering rule 101 from the late Keith Duckworth. For 780 HP at 7000 rpm, and a perfect intake with perfect runner intake volume per cubic inch, with zero flow from blocked off PVCR.... you'd get away with eight 59 Holley jets and 316 cc/min fuel flow from each of those. 2.527 liters of fuel flow makes exactly 780 HP. The wetted perimeter is a total surface area of gasoline boundary layer. That will chop and change your air fuel under load. So feel free to drop down fuel levels, and peak pressure. A Hemi head is a much more vibration prone combustion engine, so finding Power might require some staggered jetting to get flat fuel delivery to each cylinder. Haywire responses can be dialed back by air bleeds. Whatever works.

    If you want to stay old school then why not ditch the carbs and use a mechanical injector? Like maybe an Enderle shotgun injector? You can weld injector bungs right at the port entry resulting in a "dry air" manifold. Way quicker to tune, especially with a "Dial-A-Jet" cheaper than those Grossly Overpriced Holleys. Just remember to get a mechanical injection pump like a Hilborn or kinsler dash 1 or 2 type. With a Dial-A-Jet you can lean / richen the whole system at the turn of a knob / lever even while running on the highway with the throttle barely cracked open.( Part throttle cruise) . Just a thought.

    Concerning that rich condition. After pondering over it, watching the actual dyno sessions then pondering some more. Did you ever consider lowering the float levels to about 3/32 below the sight holes and stepping the fuel pressure down by 1 1/2 to 2 pounds and making a pull. The amount of theoretic jet that you pulled out and showed little change doesnt really jive in my head knowing how close out of the box calibration usually is on a Holley Carb ( I know taking the tunnel ram into consideration changes things a bit from single 4 applications) I also notice that that dynomometer exibits some vibrations that may translate into some harmonic frequecies that are transfered into the fuel in the bowls which if the fuel level is somewhat high (for dyno purposes) coupled with more than necessary fuel pressure may cause the carbs to do something called "Pull Over" which is extra fuel syphoning from the venturis as the rpm and vacuum rises. The orientation of the carbs
    (sideways) coupled with everything else I mentioned may be a contributor also. Also as a side note: Notice the fuel vapors emitted from the carbs barrels after you shut off the engine, that has raw fuel written all over it. ( Which may just be a tunnel ram thing ????) This is just my two cents and food for more thought. Keep up the great content.

    • @doctorromex7804
      @doctorromex7804 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @Made By Nobody Famous That wasn't what I was implying. Just consider what happens when the float sticks in a carburetor and the float level reaches the point where fuel is above the level of the booster tubes.....regardless of the size of the jet you go into a full flood condition because you loose any ability to meter the fuel supply. A carburetor relys on the suction created across the booster in conjunction with the air bleed size to pull a certain amount of fuel thru a certain size orifice (the jet) allowing precise metering of the fuel.

      I swear, I've learned more about carb tuning today, between the video and comments, than I think I've retained in the last 30 some years,,,, lol .
      Some great input from comments.

    • @logan_e
      @logan_e 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It's possible. If the fuel pressure is too high it can overcome the ability of the float to close the needle back into the seat. Most people don't realize that while the engine is running the float & needle don't shut off the fuel flow 'then open then shut' etc etc, the float and needle find a steady state, allowing just enough fuel to flow to replace what's being used continuously, not stop & start.
      If the pressure is too high it can force the needle open and overfill the bowl, causing spillover through the booster and a rich condition.

    I would've thought the tunnel ram has more plemum volume than a 4500 intake. At least your tuning AF ratio per cylinder. Hope you find 700+. This engine would definitely do better with compression and E-85 🌽. My TFS R Series headed 430W with a ported 4150 made 716/592 and those heads aren't moving as much air as Kasse heads. Interested in final numbers. Either way this is a stout combo!🏁🔥

But I always said if you have a good dyno person you can get optimal performance quicker than the constant wrenching and running which can take a good while to get everything dialed in.

      @@craighansen7594 of course there is,but using a dyno cuts down a lot of time chasing the engine,run after run, my friends wasted half the season at the track trying tunes to fine the sweet spot of tune on their engine when they went from their small block ford to a maxed out 460, all I'm really saying is it would have saved a lot of time tweaking on just the engine.

    Damn Andy, this is impressive!! Not only is it making incredible power, it even looks sweet! And sounds like the dyno was a good idea, would have really sucked frying one cylinder for being too lean, and not even knowing it! Can't wait for part 3. Thanks for sharing.

      Thanks for the kind words! The Dyno is always a good idea.. you get to try things in a controlled environment and you can find problems before you install it in the vehicle! Like my leaking oil pan... Not to mention you can break the engine in under a load to ensure that your ring seal is good to go...
      I agree finding the lean cylinders is a huge plus! It would have been bad to find out the hard way....

    Cylinder to cylinder distribution, without those sensors you'd never know. Our dyno headers for the different engine families are all set up for individual pyrometers which is handy to see what cylinders are off compared to others, but that can lead you down the garden path because both extremely rich and extremely lean will have colder exhaust gas temperatures.
    I noticed you have 3 circuit carbs, can those ever be (not) fun to work with.
    Very interesting build!

    I think that motor should be making 750 HP. I think the carbs need a lot more tuning and the intake needs to be modified or changed. Send the carbs to a specialist and have them recalibrated. I think a CID style large plenum single plane would be the ticket for that motor, I know you want the look but there is something missing here. You will find it.

    Yes, it is true a carburetor can do everything that fuel injection can do. However the pad to get there is so much simpler with fuel injection. A simple few keystrokes and cylinder 2 cylinder AFR is in line. I really love the content and brings a new appreciation for the all timers that I used to do this day in and day out. Tuning a carburetor and high-performance applications is truly an art and science

    Thanks Andy and happy birthday. So much good stuff in this one. Really appreciate you sharing this with us because I know it was a long time coming. I like all the carb tuning that you showed because not many people show that especially to the detail that you do. I happy that you have a running engine because I’m guessing you’re amped up to do more now that you’ve broken through that threshold. Looking forward to part 3. Regards.

    Bring it on that held my attention from start to finish back in the day I had a Windsor that had the bottom end bogs went carb crazy changing carbs and jets added A 2inch plate set it on fire I'm glad you mentioned gas mileage I ran 4.11 gears and gas mileage was granny good

    It sounds so smooth. Congratulations on your hard work. Your knowledge of carburetors has helped me. I knew enough to keep my stuff running. You sharing your knowledge has allowed me to make improvements. Making 2 dominators work in harmony is still out of my comfort zone, by a lot. Lol. Thats a bad ass engine.
