I worked on the Cs fountain clock at National Physical Lab, CSIR New Delhi about a decade back. Specifically, I had designed part of the fluorescence detection circuit for the expanding Cs atomic cloud that eventually maps out the beautiful Ramsey fringes. This video and your explanation brought back a lot of memories and joy. Thank you.

Bro to be honest you are raising the bar for scientific temperament in India. I am sure that may be just 1% watching this video, but surely this video will inspire Indian students to pursue research on these cool topics instead of running behind money and pursuing courses like CSE just for sake of higher packages. I certainly aspire that one day most of modern and futuristic technologies will be home grown in India which Dr. APJ sir dreamt about. And you are playing a vital role in it by bringing out these hidden gems in India. Hats off you GS🙇‍♂🙇‍♂

Frequency comb which you mentioned is probably one of the most important component as that is what is used to measure the frequency of the laser. Hope you cover that next time! And good to see Umakant's lab doing so well, his lab has progressed quite well since he first joined IISER Pune! The explanations were really amazing, it is very difficult to actually convey laser cooling to people let alone talk how atomic clocks work. Keep up the good work!

Imagine you have a special clock that uses atoms to tell time. Atoms are tiny building blocks that make up everything around us.
Inside this special clock, there are some atoms that vibrate or wiggle back and forth very quickly. These vibrations happen at a super regular and predictable rate, like a metronome ticking.
Scientists have figured out how to count these vibrations very carefully. They use fancy tools like lasers or microwaves to measure how fast the atoms are vibrating.
The number of vibrations tells us how much time has passed. It's like counting how many times you jump up and down to know how much time you spent playing.
The special clock also has a regular clock inside it, like the one you might have on your wall. The regular clock helps keep track of time in case the atoms get a little bit off. It's like having a backup plan.
The special clock is so good at measuring time that it can be accurate to really, really tiny amounts. It can tell time with only a few billionths of a second of error in a whole day!
These atomic clocks are used in many important things like GPS devices to help you find your way, scientific experiments, and even in communication systems. They help make sure that everything runs smoothly and on time.

mann whenever i see a machine what my mind thinks of is to disintegrate it and by the looks of these wire management my brain doesn't want to do that anymore, i am not like asking them to manage wires it's just me who likes things clean

im of opposite opinion tbh, i often tend to assosiate chaos and messiness with intelligence espescially in a lab setting, since that person or group has context of everything at place, dynamic memory allocation

@@GareebScientist yeah i am saying that too but i am saying that "I" like it that way since even if i don't know about it i can disintegrate it and know about it all and of course the makers know it already but as a science geek you too can feel of altering things in a machine to see how it works out of curiosity, like as somebody who has no idea what is going on he too can find it out
