The reason I said 10 at night is because during rush hour, this song will be over before you’ve traveled 200 yards.

@@Ozarkprepper643 another part of this is technology now a days also makes creating music less organic. many times there is someone on a metronome or they are not even in the same room and have to sync up unnaturally. the best example is jimi hendrix, he was constantly speeding up and slowing down and the band had to listen and play with it and it produces a signature funk between that group. It is pretty much impossible that you will get something new that is organic that the radio or record companies would want. Animal Collective is an example but they are weird for a lot of people, but you can watch them sync up live or studio.

I've been rediscovering some of my favorite bands of the past and the Doors are front and center right now. The entire album L.A. Woman is spectacular and Robby was really on his game on that album but this thought right here I had last night as well - that Jim Morrison had a MAN'S voice. It booms and carries out - like a LION roaring. "BOOM!"...love it!
Let's not forget Jerry Scheff on bass that carries the whole song. He is a session musician and was hand picked by Elvis to be in his live TCB Touring Band from 1969 - 1977.

I hear ya. In college 45 years ago in the Midwest this was one of my favorite songs. Dreamt of driving the freeways with this song playing. Then graduated with a job offer in LA. I lived the dream for my best years, regularly driving up the 405 to visit places on Sunset Blvd and Hollywood Blvd. Shout out to those lost angels in long-gone venues like The Wild Goose and the Ivar Theater.

I had that epiphany in Grade 10, stoned out of my gourd, in a friends basement, with that poster of Jim in his christlike pose, with Mr. Mojo Risin, underneath. I just blurted out, "Hey, that's an anagram for Jim Morrison!'. The reaction to this knowledge was muted at best, and we continued smoking and drinking.

My dad introduced us to The Doors when we were kids. When I was a bit older, he told me a buddy of his used to party in the LA scene back in the day. Went to a party where Morrison was and watched him take every pill, smoke, and drink that anyone handed him, no questions. A true wild man. Great song and great reaction vid!
Reminds me of a story that Grace Slick told in a Doors documentary a couple of decades back. They were touring Europe together and when the bands walked down the streets kids would constantly be giving them various substances. According to Grace each of them would maybe take one hit or save it for later because there was just too much...except Jim. Jim had to do all of what was offered with the the person right there and then.

Their producer quit because he didn’t want to do this album. He thought their ideas “sucked” so they turned to their engineer to co-produce. They had more fun, recording it at their workshop, and Jim recorded the vocals in the bathroom. 😂

You are talking about Paul Rothchild and he was sick of Jim after Morrison Hotel that took forever to record and did not have any hits on it. He had just made a deal to produce Pearl for Janis Joplin and wanted no part of the Doors at the time. He was a big time producer before the Doors and felt disrespected and Jim was not crazy about him either. Paul does in 1996.
I never really realized that Robby Krieger was singing the lyrics back on the guitar until you mentioned it. I also love how the younger generation are discovering The Doors. I think they were by far the best band from that era and I don't even like all of their material.
This is an insane song. One of the most ridiculous displays of a band that was talented beyond what they ever made. LA Woman is a culmination of what they could have made. I love Hyacinth House on this album too.

I turned my high school best friend on to the Doors. I also turned her on to smoking weed. One afternoon about a month after she'd gotten high the first time, we were hanging out in her apartment. She had a magnetic alphabet on her fridge, and we'd had some stoner fun playing around with the letters. L.A. Woman was playing, and I used the magnets to put MR MOJO RISIN up on the fridge. "Watch this, dude," I said, and rearranged the letters to make JIM MORRISON. She later told me she felt like her brain had dropped out of her head.

Yeah, you got it. Jim Morrison was always doing different personalities, different impressions. He was like a vocal chameleon. A poet living in his lines, experiencing everything full-on. An incredible, complex, crazy human. We are richer because he was here, even for a short time.

When I was in college, my roommate had a hell of a sound system. Every Saturday night, anybody within three blocks got to listen to this one sometime around midnight.
Actually, Elvis Presley's bass player, Jerry Scheff is also on this track. Doors always had a session player adding bass on the records. Playing live, Ray Manzarek just danced on the pedals.
Used to cruise the Strip when the Doors played at the Whiskey, my older sis had a drink with Jim, said, yes, he was nuts...She would often chat with Ray the keyboard player, said he was super smart
It is Ray Manzarek on the electric piano and he had a an electric keyboard base for the baseline. Such an incredible amount of genius music coming from 3 guys with a poet that could sing.

You're right, Mr. Mojo Risin' was Jim Morrison's alter ego. As the story goes, when Jim Morrison was a boy, his family came across a fatal accident involving a bus full of Native American Indians. He said that it was a really bad accident scene with a lot of bodies so badly injured, still laying in the road and on the side of the road as his family drove by. He said he saw some of them look right at him!! He couldn't look away and then he said he saw their souls leaving their bodies. Jim said that one of them entered his body!! He felt him inside his mind as a little boy. He said that man would come out sometimes, and when he got older, that man became his alter ego! Remember, the country was at war in Vietnam. The teens and 20 somethings were doing drugs. Everyone was fascinated by drugs. I might have only been a kid, but growing up in a big family in the city, I watched it all happen. The Doors were playing on every radio on every street corner as we all watched the teen boys being marched off to war. The average U.S. soldier was a 19-year-old man from a poor or working-class family and they were drafted. The draft didn't end until 1973. This amazing one of a kind song brings back my childhood days. Every teen and 20 something , even, kids were mesmerized by the Doors. I still listen to it when I want to feel young and wild. THANK YOU for your appreciation of this counter culture song . You're right again, it really is three songs in one!! You made it feel brand new! Gotta' keep on risin'! Risin, risin!! Yea!
One of their big hits early on was Touch Me. It was just over three minutes, went to Number 1 in the US in 1969 and really showed how good Morrison's voice really was. Some have even said it had a tinge of Prog Rock. As much as I love all the Doors stuff, this one has always been my favorite.

They were touring Europe together and when the bands walked down the streets kids would constantly be giving them various substances. According to Grace each of them would maybe take one hit or save it for later because there was just too much...except Jim. Jim had to do all of what was offered with the the person right there and then.

"Light My Fire" was performed live by the Doors on The Ed Sullivan Show broadcast on September 17, 1967. The Doors were asked by producer Bob Precht, Sullivan's son-in-law, to change the line "girl, we couldn't get much higher", as the sponsors were uncomfortable with the possible reference to drugs. In their day, they were America's band. Less than 6 months after that album release; Morrison was dead. And so ended the Doors.
They realsed two more albums as a trio still using the name "the Doors" Ray sang most of the songs. The albums were called Other Voices and Full Circle.

Their producer quit because he didn’t want to do this album. He thought their ideas “sucked” so they turned to their engineer to co-produce. They had more fun, recording it at their workshop, and Jim recorded the vocals in the bathroom. 😂

You are talking about Paul Rothchild and he was sick of Jim after Morrison Hotel that took forever to record and did not have any hits on it. He had just made a deal to produce Pearl for Janis Joplin and wanted no part of the Doors at the time. He was a big time producer before the Doors and felt disrespected and Jim was not crazy about him either. Paul does in 1996.

I never really realized that Robby Krieger was singing the lyrics back on the guitar until you mentioned it. I also love how the younger generation are discovering The Doors. I think they were by far the best band from that era and I don't even like all of their material.
This is an insane song. One of the most ridiculous displays of a band that was talented beyond what they ever made. LA Woman is a culmination of what they could have made.

I turned my high school best friend on to the Doors. I also turned her on to smoking weed. One afternoon about a month after she'd gotten high the first time, we were hanging out in her apartment. She had a magnetic alphabet on her fridge, and we'd had some stoner fun playing around with the letters. L.A. Woman was playing, and I used the magnets to put MR MOJO RISIN up on the fridge. "Watch this, dude," I said, and rearranged the letters to make JIM MORRISON.
She later told me she felt like her brain had dropped out of her head.

Ray manzarek actually wrote most of "light my fire". He was truly going for something complicated and absolutely accomplished that.

When I was in college, my roommate had a hell of a sound system. Every Saturday night, anybody within three blocks got to listen to this one sometime around midnight.

Actually, Elvis Presley's bass player, Jerry Scheff is also on this track. Doors always had a session player adding bass on the records. Playing live, Ray Manzarek just danced on the pedals.
Used to cruise the Strip when the Doors played at the Whiskey, my older sis had a drink with Jim, said, yes, he was nuts...She would often chat with Ray the keyboard player, said he was super smart
It is Ray Manzarek on the electric piano and he had a an electric keyboard base for the baseline. Such an incredible amount of genius music coming from 3 guys with a poet that could sing.
ray also had an mba in econ out of chicago.... so he also dug lower input capital cost.

Agree with Ice, great song, but not the first Door's song I'd share with the uninitiated. At my most down moments I've gravitated to it, but it's never been good for me. Give me LA Woman, Roadhouse Blues, and Crystal Ship on the mellow side of their spectrum.

The Doors captured the truth and the feel of LA in 1970, and that same truth and feel applies to LA today! LA Woman was recorded in 1970, and released in 1971. You nailed it! You're right, Mr. Mojo Risin' was Jim Morrison's alter ego. As the story goes, when Jim Morrison was a boy, his family came across a fatal accident involving a bus full of Native American Indians. He said that it was a really bad accident scene with a lot of bodies so badly injured, still laying in the road and on the side of the road as his family drove by. He said he saw some of them look right at him!! He couldn't look away and then he said he saw their souls leaving their bodies. Jim said that one of them entered his body!! He felt him inside his mind as a little boy. He said that man would come out sometimes, and when he got older, that man became his alter ego! Remember, the country was at war in Vietnam. The teens and 20 somethings were doing drugs. Everyone was fascinated by drugs. I might have only been a kid, but growing up in a big family in the city, I watched it all happen. The Doors were playing on every radio on every street corner as we all watched the teen boys being marched off to war. The average U.S. soldier was a 19-year-old man from a poor or working-class family and they were drafted. The draft didn't end until 1973. This amazing one of a kind song brings back my childhood days. Every teen and 20 something , even, kids were mesmerized by the Doors. I still listen to it when I want to feel young and wild. One of their big hits early on was Touch Me. It was just over three minutes, went to Number 1 in the US in 1969 and really showed how good Morrison's voice really was. Some have even said it had a tinge of Prog Rock. As much as I love all the Doors stuff, this one has always been my favorite.
