This Fiat 850 Sport Was A Concours Adventure

- “From what I can remember,” says Loïc Maschi, owner of this Fiat 850 Sport, “at 6 months old they gave me a toy car, and I fell for it, that was the beginning of it. I’ve always had a passion for cars and especially for vintage cars, I used to make reports on car shows, races…I couldn’t picture myself driving a modern car.”
“I fell in love with it, and I drove home with it,” he says of the first encounter with his brown classic car. But it wasn’t as easy as it seemed: the car needed a lot of work. You know, the type of work that requires a full restoration.
Loïc’s adventure is fascinating; friends, family, and newfound friends all helped push him to finish the work to complete the restoration, a restoration that went through several twists and turns as he found his own limits as an owner-enthusiast-mechanic.
The story of how this little car was finished in time to be shown at the Chantilly Arts & Elegance concours must have been spurred on by love: “…it’s my first car,” he says.
“I think you all know you can love your first car.”

Glad to see there are some of the younger generation still enjoying these cars for what they are. Clean modifications and repairs, very well done!
I have no words. He has the complete and utter passion that makes somebody a true car person. The stories for this car will be forever valuable. That was amazing!
You dont make youtube videos anymore, you create visual representations of passion
they do, and a lot of the owners say the same things about how they had life changing experiences with people because of their cars
Agreed, bravo.
This video suck. There's barely any images of the actual car. Did Larry Chen film this??
I'm glad you won't sell sell the car. You are the only worthy caretaker for this beautiful car, you have such a special connection to that car. Such an emotional story. Could be made into a movie!
I enjoy the music in these videos. Always matches the mood perfectly
Thanks!
Agreed.
Thats the nicest 850 Sport I've seen. Great colours and the stance looks spot on. Theres aloso something terrificly retro about those french Yellow spots!
My Mother had the same back in Uganda , where i was born around 1967-1968 . One of the best looking Fiat created ....
I owned one from new. I think one of the most beautifully styled small cars. A little short of horsepower for use on American highways.
This car is so beautiful.
Damn.
I wish we could all have first cars like that :(
ikr ahah
I had a Lancia Beta Coupe as my first. *Runs away*
What a beautiful looking car, the kid has a great eye for aesthetics.
Automotive joy and passion. Beautiful film. I loved my 850 Spider.
This is my favorite moment of the week, Tuesday afternoon (Spain), new petrolicious video
Bravo.
Those times the little Italians were really different from the others.
Sport runabouts with soul.
The front and the rear of the second series 850 Coupè are a little masterpiece
My first car was a 1969 Fiat 850 Sport Coupe. I loved it.
The beauty and the youth, timeless storytelling👍
Great video guys, it's like always, awesome
A true Car Guy.... I hope you keep it all your life...
No one does round tail lights like the Italians!........Beautiful little car
The Japanese used to copy European cars in the 60's
Yeah, well, everyone copied back then, just look up some 60's and early 70's Opels and European Fords. Okay, They're under American rule but still. Only Italian cars are original and Unique in their design.
all the car brands copied the italian brands.
True! If you can't beat em, copy them lol.
@@HereIsMyOffer I'm sensing a lot of butthurt in you 🤣🤣🤣😂😂😂
BRAVO - job well done young man. You found the meaning of perseverence....
As usual, a passionate and beautiful video!! My first car was a pumpkin orange 1972 Fiat 850 Spider!! I thought I was the coolest 16 year old around with that "huge" 850cc powerhouse mounted in the rear which forced me to constantly downshift to gain power into any stiff wind over 10mph!! 8-track between the two seats... Deadhead sticker on the back!! Great times to be alive!! I might have been 145 lbs soaking wet in high school, but I could actually lift the front wheels off the ground which was very useful and comical when I would lift the front end out of a snow bank that I just slid into!! My "Fix It Again Tony" will remain in my heart forever!!
Enjoyed reading this - cheers for posting.
This is a proper film and I admire the job he’s done. What a moving story that was
my first car in '76 was a 71 850 coupe To me it was a Ferrari. Picked up a workable body a few years back. so many projects so little time. Thanks for profiling this car. My daily driver is a 71 124 spider. che macchina!
Ah enfin un français dans Petrolicious... Bravo Loic !
My parent's first car when I was a child was a Fiat 850 Speciale, so I really like these old coupes.
My dad just 'confessed' a few weeks ago, that he actually owned one of these when they were around casually in Europe; and I just couldn't believe it!
-
Being born and raised in Bremen, Germany, I grew up on my moms pretzel window bug, our families first day Golf I (which some might know by the name 'Rabbit'), Audi 80s, Jettas, and our neighbors Audi Quattro Coupé (sadly none of the Group B streetcars, but still first edition).
But my dad having had a piece of art like this was, and still is, so strange to me, having me see my dad from an all new angle.
What I still do not understand is, even back when people did not understand the true value of these, why sell an item like this?
This car is an unbelievable classic, an honest piece of italian art.
I can believe you
une superbe histoire d'une grande petite voiture! bravo, Loïc!
Very inspiring when younger people show us perseverance and character. Nice Fiat; great color combo. Reminds me of my 1st car a Renault 5.
Agreed. I'm only a few years older than him. But he inspired me, because I never do any physical work. I need to get my hands dirty at some point and create an actual product with my hands, I think many could learn alot by that.
That is very touching.
j'adore l'auto. I have owned two 850 coupes and dearly miss them. Thanks for your terrific video - formidable.
" I think you all know how much you can love your first car " Yes Loïc, I know.
Great production as always PETROLICIOUS.
First car in which my uncle took me for a drive, 6 years old and i got to sit front row on the passengers seat for the first time way back in 1976. It made such an impression i can still remember it today, a dark green Fiat 850 sport.
Great job Loïc ! It takes a lot of perseverance to finish such a job in time. Beautiful designed small Italian sports car.
good job petrolicious this one seems to be imo back on track, the audio, visuals the story all great.
What a journey to put this toy back together! This has just one name: Passion! That's what Fiats are all about.
I hope I can where he is someday. I'm turning 16 on January, so that's something to look forward too.
You're correct Loic, you should never sell this car. I'm a 64 year old from New Zealand and one of these beautiful little cars was my second car - it was white with tan interior. It is the one car of the many I've owned that I most regret selling as they're almost impossible to find now.
What a nice car, I'll pick mine up next Friday, they are such fun to drive.
This is film-craft. Pure art.
So outstanding. Always look forward to these gems.
Wow, great story, great videography. He's right- it's so much about the people , as it is about the cars.
good, beautiful historic car to be maintained with care!
Great car and a great story. I love Petrolicious' stories and love it when they show up in my feed every week.
What a great story Loïc! And yes, your first love. She's so pretty and sophisticated in her little black dress. :¬D
Blue*
What an outstanding story. Yeah wish I had a first car half this mad.
I'd never seen a Fiat 850...until now! Cute car!
Love the way this guy talks. French people can be pretty hard to understand if you're not 100% on the language, but this guy has a great accent.
What a beautiful car, classically proportioned
YES....the T-shirts are all back in stock, just ordered the "Drive Tastefully" version, thanks Petrolicious!
Since I watched this video I became a great fan of this car. I discover that there is a great cult for this car in Italy, but now is so rare to find one. Someday I will buy one of these great cars.
How much hope doesn´t it give us in the young people, that we have a 19 yo going for a vintage car. Not like everyone else, but a 850 Sport. Stay cool, young man!
Magnifique reportage!
Great car. Great film. Well worth the watch
I think that many people can not imagine that such a small sports car can make a lot of fun. It does not always have to be a sports car with a lot of horsepower and expensive in terms of purchase and maintenance. Fiat has proved his time that it is also different. I was fortunate that I worked in a time as a body builder, in which Fiat built these wonderful vehicles. Also the 850 Limosiene was even family-friendly. Today we wonder that such a small vehicle should be family-friendly. This is due to our demands, which are growing ever higher and the reasonable vehicles do not give a future. At that time it was different than the 850 sports and limosiums were built, most were glad to have a car at all, even if it was small. My friend, an Italian, who worked in a small workshop near Frankfurt am Main, went to Italy, father, mother and two children every year in the summer holidays. With a Fiat 500 !!!!! Across the Alps. And they were not the only ones to drive such large distances with small vehicles. The so-called guest workers have done this, more or less every year. The guest workers have long been ordinary citizens, even if they have a different passport, they belong to Germany and have often become very dear friends. I know my friend today, we have learned together and the Fiat has been waiting and repaired. Sometimes we talk about the time that has been back a long time (I am 65 years old, my boyfriend is slightly younger) even we can sometimes not believe the small car like the 850 Sport was a dream of ours ...... He has earned his place in the automobile history of Italy and Germany. I would like to drive over the Alps again with such a car to find out how the feeling is, if it is not quite as fast as today, but more beautiful, I guess.
I’m 17 now, was looking at a Fiat 850 Sport Coupe on the internet, decided to look the car up on youtube and found this. Now i feel like i have to get it, I feel exactly the same way.
very nice video. I really miss my 850 coupe. Wonderful little thing.
Fiat got a lot of fun out of that little 850 engine and the bodywork is just lovely on the little Sport Coupé. Definitely a fun driver! Great video from Petrolicious as always and Loic's story is a charm.
That is in great condition.Well done on your restoration.I had a 1970 the same colour.Wish i still had it.Great fun to drive even though mine was a rustbucket.👍🏼
Such a beautiful car & a beautiful story behind it. Love this video, love the editing it's just stunning.
This guy have my respect, once again beautiful!
Beautifully styled small car. Fun to drive. 31mpg. 0-60 18.5 seconds.
AWESOME, Love when i see people from my generation this passionate about cars and not stance and wheel poke.
Great film, great story. Always solid Petrolicious!
What a story! Respect man
I love all of you're vids. The look and feel and content. Top notch! 👌🏾
La Fiat 850 sport..Madonna quanti ricordi..Cheers from CANADA.1969 ..my Year.
This is one great looking car.
Can these videos get any better, I mean seriously great work! Great story telling from you and the gent, and the Fiat.
that was a beautiful moving man & machine story, thank you petrolicious (back in splendid form eh!) and Loic :)
This was a beautiful video. More engaging than the others.
You guys have done well, really improved a lot these past couple months
So pleased to hear french
Loïc elle est superbe ta 850. Drive safely. I love the Petrolicious TH-cam channel!
Loved this video. I also got into cars at a really young age and have a passion for older vintage cars as well. I love new cars, but they all just miss something I feel older cars have - character and the history and stories behind all those miles.
At 22 I have a 1974 Datsun 260z and after I graduate this year from college I'd really like to find another classic car pre 1980 for a daily driver
Very nice. Great lines. It almost has a Ferrari 250 esque lines.
Very cool car and owner; a real journey and experience for an impressive young man. I am however biased because I have always loved the 850 Sport.
Another excellent video!! Well done!!
Avec gaunts pour driving 👌
Trully great little car
Congrats Loïc, amazing and you deserved it ! The images are stunning, you were saying you weren't comfortable during the interview but we don't really feel that, only passion and you are speaking distinctly :) Congratulations !
I was not really attracted by the car model but hey... can't miss any Petrolicious vid ! You made me addict.
Well at least it wasn't another 2002 or 911 video, thank goodness. I hope they do more videos about cars like these, which aren't the typical classic everybody with some money goes for.
very nice looking car!
Cool enough. I´m 19 too and I have Fiat 850 sport coupe waiting for restoration too :D .
Man this video brings back memories. I remember back in 1985 when I got a 77 Lancia Beta.. Unlike this guy after two years I chickened out trying to fix it. Parts were expensive for it back then and even though it was a fun car to drive I never got over the fact it was front wheel drive. Sold it and to this day I regret it because of what I could have learned fixing it.
Lovely video, but there's something wrong with the quality. There is a strange "sharpening" effect and the subtitles are too blurry.
Glad im not the only one noticing
yeah, but possibly deliberate. didn't bother me until i read your comment - thanks ! :)
Hipster filter I think.
HAHAAHA...hipster filter...lol.
First car done right!
Everytime Petrolicious posts something Italian or Fiat I get excited. This one was really Interesting. I have a Fiat 500 sport that I bought. It's my first car and it's beautiful. I had never noticed Fiat, but when I saw them I had to have one :)
First cars I drove were my dad’s yellow Fiat 850 Sport coupe and his white VW beetle.
I now am lucky enough to have a Porsche 996 GT3 … the engine is still in the back !!
Félicitations magnifique voiture
always great videography..
The pretty litlle 850 Sport Coupe was my preffer car when I was child.
Yet it remains one of the most beautiful cheap cars from the 60's.
Cool. I'm also keeping my first car. Can you imagine when you are 75 years old, showing it to your grandchildren?
The true spirit of Petrolicious, in my opinion. Built not bought.
the french history always are the best!
My first car was a 850 Sport .... a 72 in red. Still miss it
