Whether or not that was Savages intention, the comment by Terry reflects that Savage had indeed hurt Terry on an emotional level.

    Robbie Savage is right; everyone is entitled to an opinion, regardless of their ability. John Terry recently described Jose Mourinho as "the very best I have ever worked with", yet Mourinho hardly had a glittering career as a footballer. So by Terry's logic surely he would ignore any feedback Mourinho ever game him as immaterial? Alan Shearer, one of the greatest players the UK has ever produced, had one short stint as manager which ended in relegation. Thierry Henry had an incredible career in which he achieved a lot, but has been slated as a pundit for his lack of insight. My point is one's ability as a footballer does not have a defining influence on the validity of their opinion on the game, nor should it. The laughter from the journalists in the room, most of them failed footballers themselves, is quite bizarre when you consider Terry is basically saying he doesn't respect their opinion either.

    I'm no fan of John Terry and I think he's not the most articulated footballer but I think that's where the problem lies. Yes he digged Savage out but what he seemed to mean was that as a top top tier footballer, he wouldn't take criticism of someone equal or above on how to better himself. Which makes sense, while not entirely the wisest decision.

  • @busydad4858
    @busydad4858 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Not a direct comparison to Savage but plenty of people who go on to become top managers and coaches were not great footballers, played at a mediocre level, not in a top league etc or retired early due to injury / not making it. Terry would listen to his gaffer and respect their opinion regardless of their playing career, trophies or achievements I guess! (His old boss Mourinho played less than 100 professional matches)

  • @recruitmentch

    Robbie Savage didn't have a career? That's basically like saying that Paul McGrath didn't have a career. Savage played in the premier league and played for his national team. So he didn't have a career, because he didn't win the league, european cups or the world cup? Matt Le Tissier won less that Savage. If Le Tissier had a word about Terry's performance, his opinions wouldn't be taken on board by Terry, because Le Tissier stayed at Soton all his career? What about a player who has had a long stint in the lower leagues? Their opinions aren't valid either? Terry is just a despicable human being. But like Savage said, I was also astonished to hear the loud laughter of the journalists. If I was a journalist in that room, you'd just see me with the most disappointed look on my face, after hearing Terry say what he did. How many journalists in that room have had distinguished football careers to find what he said funny? Really embarrassing.

      ProG Matty who was ever better over a longer period of time? he won the pfa player of the award in 2005 after Chelsea conceded FIFTEEN goals all season and was named in the World XI for 5 consecutive years, his achievements and ability both on a personal scale and within a team completely dwarf every other CB in PL history, id say only Vidic and Adams come remotely close to matching him

    • @twebbster12
      @twebbster12 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Vidic had only around 4-5 seasons at the very top as opposed to terry's 12 or so, with terry preceding and outlasting him; I'd say Vidic was better than Terry for the 08 and 09 seasons only. Stam was absolutely class but played in the PL for a very short period of time, ferdinand was a good CB but not a great one and Moore is ineligible for this argument as he played in the old first division (i also dont think he was realistically anywhere near as good as any of the aforementioned as the standard of football back then was drab in comparison to today's level and defenders could get away with much more)
