BR was planning the Intercity 250 upgrade for the WCML in the early 1990s but it was cancelled due to privatisation. Would have involved various route upgrades and 155mph trains.

The DVTs have great horns. A nice chord there 24:10.
DVTs were few and far between in those days.
You certainly don't see any 08 shunters around Euston these days.
why did it take until the mid 2000s to finally retire the 86/87 classes and their coaches? just lack of investment?
