What a wonderful line to use in a blessing for a weapon carried by Kratos, of all people. That may be my favorite line in all of media.

    There’s 2 things I love about this.
    1. Kratos showing humility and kneeling before a being he respects. In Kratos’ eyes, Brok is truly a great blacksmith. I believe Kratos truly believes the blessing is crucial because of the lesson Brok taught him just before that he repeats.
    2. Kratos seeing his friend in pain. He’s hurt, and rightfully so. He doesn’t try to tell Brok to calm down. He knows Brok won’t just calm down. But he knows he can’t let his friend spiral, so he changes the subject and uses the moment to reiterate a lesson he was just taught and do something to help Brok feel better.
One of the moments that Kratos fights his nature and proves the prophecy of him being a benevolent god is his true path. A moment that HE opens his heart.

@@harundoener I don’t think anyone thought that. Also Kratos relating to Brok and acknowledging his legendary skill has nothing to do with being smart or not. Kratos was angry before in the original trilogy and his emotions would’ve never allowed him to pick up someone like he did here for Brok. This was him listening to Faye and opening his heart and not closing it like he’d been doing until now

I love how form vs nature is a subtle nod to Kratos and how he's changed over the games. He still takes the form of a warrior and a fierce fighter...he's still the form of the God of War.
But his nature has changed. He now fights for those he cares about and not for revenge. He avoids conflict rather than looks for trouble. He shows genuine kindness and respect to his friends, and humility when he realizes when he's wrong. And this is what matters to the story...not the fact that he still fights, but his reason for fighting.

I will forever love this moment in gaming because of what it truly represents. Kratos as a character has rarely ever shown anyone any form of respect and Brok as a character rarely receives any respect in comparison to his brother due to his nature, his colorful choice of language, and his overall abrasive personality. Kratos as warrior and a God taking the knee and presenting Brok, a meer blacksmith, with with a weapon said smith forged for the smith's humble blessing, forsaking the blessing of a truly powerful being in which said blacksmith respected since childhood it's something absolutely powerful to watch. Kratos by doing this and saying the phrase " it is the nature of a thing that matters, not its form" proves that not only Kratos was listening to Brok, but also values the blessing of Brok more than that of a legendary being. This act of pure humility and respect from Kratos shows that he is fully acknowledging the work that Brok (and by minor extension Sindri) has done throughout the entirety of their friendship. Rather than forcing the idea of finding another person to bless the spear, he chooses to humbly ask Brok, someone that would be considered lower than most beings around himself for a blessing which would only be a blessing of meer words due to Brok's lack of a soul piece. Brok even fully acknowledges that his blessing would only be that of words but Kratos wants it anyway. You can really see that in Brok's face and in needing to take a few moments to compose himself that he is moved so thoroughly by Kratos's request his voice even breaks. Both never say thank you, and both just nod. Brok never even brags to Sindri about this which proves that he values this as a treasure beyond any act or words of praise from any God before Kratos. Even Mimir seems speechless by the act of pure respect from Kratos towards Brok and all three men take this as a private moment between the two and don't tell anyone about the blessing. I wish during the final moments of the game that Kratos or Mimir could have said some final words about treasuring Brok blessing during the funeral so Sindri would known that some part of Brok still exists and is treasured by Kratos himself. But then again Kratos is a man of few words and idk if Mimir would have thought it was the right time to mention it. But overall a truly powerful moment.

you know . . . this spear may have more significance to Kratos than one might initially think.
It LITERALLY brings him back to his roots. The spear is the first weapon a Spartan learns to wield. It brings Kratos back to his days as a mortal Spartan general. Back when he had his fleet. Back when he had his first family. Back before he sold his soul to Ares.
Kratos was not always a heartless monster. Not *really*. Sure, he was a hardass Spartan general, but he had people he was doing it for. Plus he did have appreciation for those with goodness in them, like the Spartan Atreus. It wasn't always a self indulgent quest for revenge.
Every weapon in this game represents a different chapter in Kratos' journey. The Blades represent his imprisonment and his spiral into villainy. The Axe represents his fresh start and his chance to be better. The Spear is his reward for coming so far. He only got it because he made true friends. He has family again. He was something beyond vengeance for which he fights again. What better weapon than that which reminds him of how he used to feel?

everyones fan boying about Kratos but I got respect for Brok, a character who goes around effing and blinding every second yet when he has to seriously, bless a weapon and think what he would want done with it, he only asks, that it fulfill the purpose of which he made it, and then that hopefully, the day comes when the thing he made is no longer needed, and put down. This wasnt a Kratos moment, this was a Brok and Kratos moment.

You can hear the main motif in Ræb’s Lament when Brok learns he died once.
That foreshadowing is incredible, holy shit.

I have a feeling that each weapon represents 1 aspect of Kratos:
Blades of Chaos represents the monster he was once
Leviathan Axe represents his humanity, he's a different man now, he is a loving husband and a caring father, and a great friend
Draupiner Spear represents his godhood status, he's not the god of war anymore, he's the god of benevolence and hope.

kratos kneeling and asking for his blessing means alot

  • @timebomb4562
    @timebomb4562 หลายเดือนก่อน

I find the blessing interesting for a few reasons the spit is obvious it embews the spear with a piece of brok (there are far more gross ways he could've done that so we should be thankful)
The line may it be put down when it's job is done is pretty interesting to me because it explores a different purpose to a weapon. Brok believes that weapons should be used to win the immediate battle then seek a peaceful alternative once that job is done

Damn this scene got me good. The thing that gets me is that Kratos *kneels* in front of Brok, not demanding his help but asking for it. He’s not talking to him as an ally but as a friend, to help him bless a weapon to protect his son

  • @kratosphantom

I think the lady did bless the weapon before she left, her hand gesture showed it before she left. We had Brok's point of view so we couldn't hear anything.

What really shows growth in both kratos and brock is the final part of the blessing. Brock used to love making weapons and it is heavilly implied that he fet pride in their destructive capabilitys. Kratos used to mow down everyone in his way for his own goals, even being willing to kill people who never done anything to him. (The ship captain from god of war1 comes to mind. Kratos took the key from him and droped him down the hydras throat to his death. But it is not like the Captain would have defended the key. Kratos could just have put the dude on his feet and go his ways) But after kratos destroyed athen and came face to face with his sins, and after Brock saw the crueltys thor caused with the hammer, they no longer see violence as something to be relished in. It is a necessary evil. So the spear shall be efficient, it shall only be used when it is needed and it shall be put to rest, when it fulfilled its purpose.
