I like to think that Draupnir spear as Kratos's true weapon in the norse era of God of War. While Kratos will always cherish the Leviathan Axe (as it was the weapon of his beloved wife) and has begrungingly accepted the Blades of Chaos as a part of himself (as well as not being able to get rid of them), the Draupnir spear is the weapon that is the most fitting for Kratos himself. As a spear it serves a symbol of his spartan heritage, as it the weapon all spartans learn to use, and resembles the Arms of Sparta, another spear that symbolizes Kratos's homeland. Additonally, the Draupnir Spear, compliments his Gaurdian Shield, given it's resemblance to an aspis shield, a greek sheild that was often paired with a spear.
Zeus’ Fury was always limited by your magic meter, just like the other godly powers he obtained while in Greece. Honestly though, part of me would like to see Kratos return to Greece and reclaim his lost powers, if only to prevent them from being used to terrorize those who survived his initial slaughter of the gods and burning of Olympus to the ground, then returning with those powers intact to rule over the Norse gods alongside Freya
I was shocked when the abilities were revealed with it- I was 1000% expecting it to be a spear that could extend and retract magically and infinitely, a la Jingu Ban in line with allusions to other gods, relics and pantheons. The multiplication and exploding was such a shock, but Draupnir immediately became one of the top fictional weapons I would want.
When we first got it, I thought this would be like the old god of war games, where we get a new weapon and then immediately go back to the blades because we've dunped so many upgeade points in them that they're really the only way to stay current with the enemies. But the spear becomes... really useful. Especially against single enemy combat.
Spear starts off at level 5 and gives you 50 luck. Also they give you a ton of exp at the end of the mission so you can upgrade the skill tree a bit. In older games you would have got a lvl1 weapon you needed to level up
you know when he told atreus to get off his back I really expected him to say " A spartan never lets his back hit the ground" like in the GOW2 (I think thats the one its in correct me if Im wrong)
I remember the interaction with Freya sounding different after the fight: Freya: That’s the weapon? A Draupnir Spear? Kratos: *THE* Draupnir Spear. Mimir: Well I suppose any number of Draupnir Spears by this point.
"I do not know. You were not there to ask." A silly line in passing, but when you look into it, it's a pretty clear sign of Atreus' importance to Kratos' growth as a person. How much wisdom would he have missed out on learning if Atreus wasn't there?
Blades of Chaos: His life as a god-killer Leviathan Axe: His life as a reformed husband and father and a better man Draupiner Spear: His life as a Spartan Warrior and Leader
It's more the intent. Kratos had the weapon made specifically to counter and kill a god he knew could be a threat to his son. While he only intends to act if needed to protect Atreus, it's essentially a declaration that he is willing to shed more Aesir blood and so provoke retaliation, thus war.
It's gonna start a war because there is a thin truce between aesir and the others as long as no other aesir are killed. The weapon is crafted with the single purpose of killing an aesir meaning the intent to break the truce and start a war has been made.
The Blades of Chaos represent his past and rage. The Leviathan Axe represents his love and devotion. The Drapunir Spear represents his honor and future.
Imagine if we could use the weapons of the Dead gods like Heimdall and Magni's swords,Modi's shield and metal ball,Odin's spellbook and spear Gungnir and to close the Thor's hammer would be incredible It's a shame there weren't these weapons for us to use and some weapons for Atreus/Loki like the Freyr's sword Making a reference to Loki's sword in the original Mythology and in the future a spear/staff for him and maybe new bows like the bows of the Gods Ullr and Hodr that didn't appear But they may in the future Who knows right? 🤔😁👍🙏🙏 Like and Bye!
Their are many Reasons for War, and many Gods of War to go with them Kratos clearly represents and has become the God for those who would only go to War because their want (or have) to protect those precious to them. Often because their aggressors give them no other choice but Violence... Admittedly one of the more noble ... Kinder... Albeit sad reasons for War.
In mythology, the Draupnir ring was created by the dwarves, Brok and Sindri (also known as Eitri) as one of three gifts for the Aesir. The others were the powerful hammer, Mjölnir and the boar, Gullinbursti, which glowed gold in the dark and pulled the chariot of the Vanir god, Freyr. The ring would multiply every 9 days and produce 8 more of itself, making it an endless source of wealth. It is said that the story behind it (and by extension, Mjölnir and the boar) were made after Loki challenged the dwarves, saying they could not make items superior to the works of the Sons of Ivaldi.
if you throw draupnir a bunch while fighting in the realm between realms when atreus gets back, he also remarks "How many of those things do you have?"
the nature of Draupnir replication leads to multiple probabilities which Heimdall might not be able to foresee like one can be thrown , one can be stabbed , one can explode , one can slash etc...
Atreus wanting to know about the rings tale. Atreus- what’s it’s story? Kratos- I do not know, you were not there to ask. The tone probably made him seem more angry but he is more sad or scared in that situation. And I love it
I see everyone talking about how Draupnir is the first weapon that's really his... but more than that, symbolically, it's the fusion of his old life and new. A spear, the Spartan's weapon, the blood of an Olympian. Draupnir, the Norse ring of bounty, the blessings of Brok. Together, combined into something unique, a middle road, the perfect blend of who he was and the people who have changed him.
0:51 I love just how much disrespect Odin has for his adversaries, that he is willing to waltz over and try to touch the spear without Kratos permission, not that he would ever give it, but I also love that Kratos does not make a scene and just silently and quickly moves the spear from his reach.

Him throwing unlimited spears reminds me of the Zeus' Fury he had in the first game.
Also the Arms of Sparta from Ghost of Sparta
Zeus’ Fury was always limited by your magic meter, just like the other godly powers he obtained while in Greece. Honestly though, part of me would like to see Kratos return to Greece and reclaim his lost powers, if only to prevent them from being used to terrorize those who survived his initial slaughter of the gods and burning of Olympus to the ground, then returning with those powers intact to rule over the Norse gods alongside Freya
@@brianvance1178 Not possible, all Greek weapons and artifacts lost their power after the pantheon was destroyed.
this weapon is my new favorite, how could you not love infinite exploding spears, also the way they incorpreated draupnir was genieus
I think the last gesture the mermaid gave was her blessing, just what I think
I was shocked when the abilities were revealed with it- I was 1000% expecting it to be a spear that could extend and retract magically and infinitely, a la Jingu Ban in line with allusions to other gods, relics and pantheons. The multiplication and exploding was such a shock, but Draupnir immediately became one of the top fictional weapons I would want.
i'm sure for a spartan spear and shield are like a bicycle. you'll never forget how to use it.
"I do not know, you were not there to ask"
Shows that kratos only relied on Atreus when it comes to norse legends.
That and he is so introverted.
"Never much cared for Brok" really hits home
1:06 I like how there's a hint of smugness in Kratos' voice when saying "a spear" to Freya
I like how they gave him the ability to summon that spear to give him an excuse to throw infinite spears like in God of War 1.
In older games you would have got a lvl1 weapon you needed to level up
1:41 Kratos punched the black thing so hard it forward time
At 1:49
"To protect Atreus, I'm nobodies champion except his"
........Kratos he's a giant
you know when he told atreus to get off his back I really expected him to say " A spartan never lets his back hit the ground" like in the GOW2 (I think thats the one its in correct me if Im wrong)
It's actually gow: ghost of sparta
@@MrWaterlionmonkey actually he also said this line to the last spartan in GOW2
one of the coolest fantasy weapons ever designed. I hope we'll see this more in the future.
It's Kratos' own godly weapon, made specifically for him, so it will follow him into other future games
"Off your back!"
Man, reminds me of when Kratos told Deimos that "Spartans do not let their back hit the ground."
I remember the interaction with Freya sounding different after the fight:
Freya: That’s the weapon? A Draupnir Spear?
Kratos: *THE* Draupnir Spear.
Mimir: Well I suppose any number of Draupnir Spears by this point.
It's different depending on if you use the spear in that fight or not
You came to speak. Speak.
Cuts bedore he speaks.
never promised he would listen
to speak seriously, not waste time.
A weapon fitting for a Spartan.
"I do not know. You were not there to ask."
A silly line in passing, but when you look into it, it's a pretty clear sign of Atreus' importance to Kratos' growth as a person.
How much wisdom would he have missed out on learning if Atreus wasn't there?
I like that he said he’s no ones champion but Atreus
Blades of Chaos: His life as a god-killer
Leviathan Axe: His life as a reformed husband and father and a better man
Draupiner Spear: His life as a Spartan Warrior and Leader
I like how the spear comes out like one of those collapsible self defense pole from wish
Kratos' form is a killer of gods, but his nature is that of a father, and a father protects those who matter most ...
I have NEVER wanted a fictional weapon more in my life
Freyas reaction differs whether you use the spear during the fight before
Why's everyone saying the spear is gonna start a war? the blades are way more dangerous.
It's more the intent. Kratos had the weapon made specifically to counter and kill a god he knew could be a threat to his son. While he only intends to act if needed to protect Atreus, it's essentially a declaration that he is willing to shed more Aesir blood and so provoke retaliation, thus war.
Actually both are god slaying weapons the only advantage of the blades of chaos is that it's cursed attribute
@@ES-dp6tw not just a threat literally intend to kill Atreus
It's gonna start a war because there is a thin truce between aesir and the others as long as no other aesir are killed. The weapon is crafted with the single purpose of killing an aesir meaning the intent to break the truce and start a war has been made.
Because the spear is literally the weapon used to kill Heimdall, which kickstarts the actual Ragnarok war
4:12 “a spartan warrior never lets his back hit the ground”
Draupnir - Wind
Blades - Flame
Axe - Ice
i fhought the spear supposed to be light?
@@edberaga no it's wind brok literally put wind on his magical bag when they're making their way to the lady
I like how barely Kratos moves when Heimdal kicks him. Maybe he could always just tucker Heimdal out 😂
A spartan never is on his back during a fight
Atreus isn't a Spartan Kratos spared him that harsh life.
@@destroyerblackdragon obviously you missed the reference to him saying that to Deimos, I know Atreus isn’t a spartan
@@colorgreen8728 I didn't miss it everyone else in the comment section brought it up. That's just not a standard Atreus has to live up to.
The Blades of Chaos represent his past and rage.
The Leviathan Axe represents his love and devotion.
The Drapunir Spear represents his honor and future.
theres a good parallel between the Heimdall fight and the sceen in the house where Kratos tells at hes not ready
Bear went OFF WITH THIS SCORE.
When he summons it, it’s just so cool.
Seeing a spartan with a spear is so therapeutic.
4:10 “A Spartan never lets his back hit the ground” 🛡️ ⚔️
Their are many Reasons for War, and many Gods of War to go with them
Kratos clearly represents and has become the God for those who would only go to War because their want (or have) to protect those precious to them.
Often because their aggressors give them no other choice but Violence...
Admittedly one of the more noble ... Kinder... Albeit sad reasons for War.
Reminds me of a flavor text on a MTG card called Ardent Militia.
"Some fight for fame and others for gold, but the Militia fight for hearth and home."
"I am no one's champion but his" holy shit dad of the century.
This spear kinda reminds me of kratos brother diamos
i didnt realize it til now but i like the attention to detail when kratos stabs the hellwaker and alsms him to the ground you can see the shaft bend
Heimdall definitely reminds me of Hermes in gow 3
if you throw draupnir a bunch while fighting in the realm between realms when atreus gets back, he also remarks "How many of those things do you have?"
the nature of Draupnir replication leads to multiple probabilities which Heimdall might not be able to foresee like one can be thrown , one can be stabbed , one can explode , one can slash etc...
The only Ring of Power I care to watch
Atreus wanting to know about the rings tale.
Atreus- what’s it’s story? Kratos- I do not know, you were not there to ask.
The tone probably made him seem more angry but he is more sad or scared in that situation. And I love it
Freya: so what's the new weapon?
Kratos: a *s p e a r*
Brok’s masterpiece was key to breaking prophesy. Screw the fish lady. Brok is the best.
Brok: "Just like old times then!"
Mimir: "Couldn't have put it more _forebodingly_ myself."
💀
5:26
“Oh wait. You expected the sti-💥”
Everybody else: Woah cool spear with wind powers!
Heimdall: Hmmmm... *STICK*
I see everyone talking about how Draupnir is the first weapon that's really his... but more than that, symbolically, it's the fusion of his old life and new. A spear, the Spartan's weapon, the blood of an Olympian. Draupnir, the Norse ring of bounty, the blessings of Brok. Together, combined into something unique, a middle road, the perfect blend of who he was and the people who have changed him.
got to say they killed it with the spear desgin I loved that thing
The popping back to the hands so he can double hand stab Again is beautiful brutality 4:38
''Whats its story ?'' I dont know you were not there to ask. idk know why this line hits so hard for me
0:51 I love just how much disrespect Odin has for his adversaries, that he is willing to waltz over and try to touch the spear without Kratos permission, not that he would ever give it, but I also love that Kratos does not make a scene and just silently and quickly moves the spear from his reach.
3:56 I love the sass Kratos gives Atreus
Atreus: So... Why do you have a new weapon, i though you didnt want to go to war?
Kratos: i have to get the point across boy.
Good see that kratos is wielding a spear again he looks like a spartan again
Kratos to Atreus: “off your back”
Kratos to Deimos: “A Spartan never lets his back hit the ground”
Heimdall was like throw me one!
Kratos was damn excited 0:40
Mimirs worry was warranted tho. You can't deny it.
0:55 Odin: "Never cared much for brok"
If you know, you know the pain
I like the idea that his new spear is, unlike his past cursed weapons or those he takes from others, was forged explicitly for him.
4:11 A Spartan never lets his back hit the ground. Right, Brother?
Kratos really took Brok's quote of "it's the nature of the thing the matters"
Heimdall: *catches spear* Nice stick lmao
Kratos: Wanna see a magic trick?
Every weapon kratos has ever wielded was given to income of this beer is something uniquely his own
MAN I THOUGHT KRATOS WILL NEVER MENTION ABOUT SPEAR BEING A SPARTAN WEAPON BUT THE DEVELOPER KNOW WHAT WE WANT AFTER THEY INTRODUCED US THE SPEAR :'D
