Splendid light shows illuminated the sky in Shanghai, Chongqing, Wuhan, Haikou and Qingdao to welcome the Year of the Rabbit. Skyscrapers across China were also lit up to celebrate CGTN's Spring Festival "Super Night" special. Enjoy festive illuminations and celebrate the Chinese New Year with CGTN.

Hi. They do this every year throughout China. This video only showed 5 cities.
I think the most impressive one looking from afar would be the one in Qingdao shown here.
But any of the others are extremely impressive if you are actually physically there surrounded by the lights.
I was in Shenzhen in China a few years ago when they had a countdown to some special anniversary day.
They had this unimaginable light and laser show lighting up the entire massive city EVERY SINGLE NIGHT FOR HALF A YEAR!!!!
yes, you heard right. They did what you see in that Qingdao clip here plus laser show on top EVERY SINGLE NIGHT for half a year leading up to that whatever day they were celebrating!!!!!

But I agree with you that they have impressive light shows every night in many cities in China. Just not to this scale.
For example, the one in Shenzhen I mentioned above is no longer there as far as I know.
(I used to go travel around China every year before the pandemic)

But doesn't matter, it's only a name.

( If I'm not mistaken, the lunar calendar is only used in the Arab world. So strictly speaking only the Arab new year can correctly be called Lunar New Year)

The Chinese New Year we are celebrating here was based and originated from the Chinese Nong Li (农历) Calender and the 12 Chinese Zodiac Animals (中国十二生肖 - 鼠，牛，虎，兔，龙，蛇，马，羊，猴，鸡，狗，猪）This year is Gui Mao Nian - Rabbit (癸卯年-兔) In ancient time much of the neighbouring countries like Japan, Korea and Vietnam have been heavily influenced by the Chinese Culture hence they also celebrate these festivals as well. It is liken to eating Chinese delicacies doesn't turns one into a Chinese but still you are most welcome to enjoy the food as you like nevertheless. Its still Chinese delicacies. So coming back to the topic its still Chinese New Year as it follows the Chinese Nong Li Calender. Not exactly Lunar but partically. Or Luna-Solar, if you really got to split hairs on this one. Because it derived from BOTH the Sun and the Moon. Only Muslim follows the so called "Lunar" Calender and we aren't Muslim. Please trust us, we know our own traditions better than those who doesn't celebrate our culture nor traditions. Thank you for listening.
