      Nice but ..
Does it have a battery for the controller?, since the key 2nd gen has it and that also include the camera server ...
How many cameras support , each camera take a little bit of processing juice, will that affect DPI and IDS?
I use UniFi a lot and I love their products, but I think this is for home or small Company not medium, I personally use their NVR solution, more robust and reliable and the software has more and better features.

Looking for a suggestion in a router for my home, with my smart home growing, and a family of 5 with a growing list of devices added to the network all the time I am experiencing issues now, at this time I have 76 devices on my network at the time of writing this post. I have updated my internet package to fiber internet 750 mbps but the router is only broadcasting 250 mbps. I know a router would help but I am a noob when it comes to routers and don't know what to buy any suggestions

@@Bobbyuk I like it, but I haven't really compared it to other appliances. It's very capable, and my speed maxes out around 950mbps. I like the IDS functionality as well. The only thing I dislike about it is that during the unboxing and initial installation, it started a firmware update that failed. I had to boot into rescue mode or whatever it's called and do a recovery. It's worked very well after that.

@@Bobbyuk get OPNSense (or PFSense, but many developers now went to OPN!). Unifi has the habbit of dropping products without much time, for example the IP-phones, the entire unifi video product line etc ... wouldn't recommend ubiquiti for any new setup right now until their business habits change.
Also, OPN / PFSense has many advanced features and a really good gui. Runs on standard hardware also.

But, thinking of buying the UniFi Dream Machine right away I read lots of negative reviews; everything from being so noisy to difficulties obtaining stable operation and not achieving its advertised. I mean these are things that are basically standard in today's world and the fact that it is limited to one IP has caused multiple ppl I know to go with different hardware that is not as good with most of the other stuff.

By the way Jeremy, I was working a lot with Dream Machine PRO. I have deployed this router in different small businesses are awesome and solid. The issue that you may have with the 1gbs is that the version you have only work in the SFP+ port. If you have your lan connected to the Wan ethernet port it will only read that + your network is 1gbs so it will read that. The new version of dream machine pro is insane. Eh, not my style. I much prefer the Edge line. I like the okdschool style UI, I like that the app is completely optional. My set up is limited to 1Gig, but I went with that because the line from my "cabinet" (I still need a rack) is coax and it would just be too much effort to replace it with something that could handle more. Most my devices aren't upgradable past Gigabit anyway.
I really hope Ubiquity doesn't end the Edge line of products, but the lack of anything to replace the aging AirCube has me worried. (That said, my second hand cubes work great!)

Just for commenting sake, a rack mountable WAP equipped device. That's great if you don't want it to work, one reason where an engineer has a complete right to say: "Umm, no. We're not putting a WAP on a device that needs to be mountable in a metal rack. That's stupid."
One of UniFi's fatal flaws I believe is the very limited options available on custom routing/firewall rules using the UI portal. I think for a lot of those complicationed options to be done, it requires it to be done only in CLI and I don't know if the UI can tell you if/how those changes are present/active.

Eh. It looked really awesome until the part where it has no POE and you can only use one of the SFP+ ports for lan. (Can't actually process 10g between two clients) it was so close to replacing the majority of my network equipment. I guess I'll stick with my 2960s and usg. Disappointing

I have a 1GB lease line connected to a dream machine pro. I use a UniFi LR 6 and the best speed I can get Wi-Fi is 400mb down. I’ve tried every setting under the book. My cheap £30 router gives me faster download and upload speeds.

    • @tekjunkie28
      @tekjunkie28 ปีที่แล้ว

@@barnyardstormer nah.... 400mbps is all that a unifi wireless device will do.. they are some of the slowest out there

@@barnyardstormer Your not going to get anything more then 800Mbps on wifi. Take 866 and do 70% of that... that is what the speed of wifi will be clsoe to 100% of the time with the absolute best gear.

@@barnyardstormer wired or wireless speed? Wireless can get those speeds but you need a 4x4 mimo device and AP. It that’s it still only on perfect conditions. Are these speeds being achieved in the middle of nowhere or neighbors that are over 3-5 acres away

    All your comments are great.
I almost went with this unit myself but you missed another key point that I think Ubiquiti really dropped the ball on.
    Lack of PoE.
It would be a true Dream Machine if it could run a coupl APs and cameras from it.
I know it only has 8 ports which is plenty for a router/gateway, but even if just half of them were PoE it would have made this sooooooo much better.
At its price point I can live without the HDD, they are easy to get and also some people have preferences so that's fine.

What camera's are use using, does that require a subscription for the cameras? That would actually be pretty neat idea. Deep dive on how they're all connected, recording, setup.

Ok so the backup and restore from a Dream Machine does not work anymore. I just recreated everthing. Also the little touch screen is actually useful if it close to you (which it can be since it is dead quiet). All in all, very impressed. Just wish you could get cameras for it. They are all sold out except the $1800 one.

there's been a lot of bugs on the software, we have an aggregated 1gbps from 3 isp, the dream machines shows 100 percent utilization on the dashboard whereas the real load of our network is just 30 to 40 percent.
