So AWESOME!! Good job! I’ve been trying for a sub 20 for a little over 3 years. I turned 50 this past year so I think I’m getting past the point of getting it. So proud of you you! That is a huge accomplishment!
Wendell, you are not past the point of getting it. I would urge you to buy, Fast 5K, by Pete Magill, i am 59 now and it has changed my outlook on training. Good luck.
@@DavidSmith-fs5qj i agree with you David. I too am 59 and ran 18:17 and hopefully get quicker as you will see on my TH-cam channel. Not heard of that book you mention. Will check it out!
@@DavidSmith-fs5qj i'm on it David! Having completed my first sub 38minute 10k a few months ago, i might give the shorter distance a go, once i have this years marathons out of the way.
Mary hitting sub 20 with that ultra stride is spectacular. Hope it sunk in for her that she is quite fast. Motivates me to get out and see if I can finally nab a sub 20!
Well done Mary. Awesome pacing and great mental strategy to focus also to tell Ben to ‘move away’. I’m aiming to go sub 22 this year which I think is quite OK for a 56 yr old woman. I have run 18:34 in the past although I was way younger when I did that.
That is brilliant Helen. Age is just a number and you can run that time! I'm recently running 18:17 and i'm in my late 50's....hopefully i can get quicker so will reveal more on my youtube channel :-)
Absolutely amazing Mary! Incredible how the impact of the training but, seemingly more importantly, learning to control the mental side of running helped you to achieve such a huge goal! Well done!
wow Mary, I got goosebumps at the finish line & felt so so happy as if I know you in person (I am also in the mid of chasing my sub 20 as well haha) well done, you two are so inspiring!!!
Bravo Mary!!! That would have been tough on a track and all by yourself. Your reviews are so entertaining. (Mary, you and I are the only runners I've ever seen with the wristband on the right wrist.)
wow...I am also exactly at 20:37 for my PB and this is more than important inspiration for me. I know with my training is at that level right now and I think I would really go for it this winter which is when all the PBs come to light!!!. Thanks for the tips and Inspiration I would be back to tell you I did it soon I hope
This made me so emotional! Well done Mary! My sub 20 journey has recently been halted due to injury but so excited to get back on it after watching this!
This is one of my fave of your vlogs. I took on a 5000m track race (first event of this kind for me) at the weekend and remembered this vlog so watched it back. My aim was sub-20 PB too, so the vlog was extra helpful. And really inspiring. Got 19:34 and just so happy with that! Thanks so much Mary x
Congrats to Mary! This was so much fun to watch. It's been several years since I've cracked 20 minutes. I am working back in that direction. It's always exciting to see the payoffs to diligent training and hard work. Love your work and videos.
Just stumbled upon this channel, very motivating. I remember my first sub 20 at Christies Beach parkrun, South Australia, where I did a 19:45. Like you it didn't sink in for a while and I used to wonder if a sub 20 was even something I was capable of. Whilst not elite level, it is certainly a great time for 99% of runners out there. I like all sorts of running and I find going for a fast 5K makes me more nervous than say a half marathon as in a longer run you can ease into it and not be gasping for air like you have to if you go for a 5K personal best. A half marathon is much more comfortable run, despite the length from my point of view/experience.
Totally agree. And what an amazing part of the world you live in!! We road tripped there in 2010 and fell in love with the area. Did the whole great ocean road 😍
🙌🙌🙌 brilliant run Mary...you’re right that if you never do another it’s always on your CV..my 19.56 came 6 years ago and I doubt I’ll ever see anything near to that again but I have done it 👏👏👏
Best way to end Easter Sunday! Mary is a beast and I couldn’t be more pumped watching this. I’m trying low Hr training lately and I managed to finally run below 6 mins per km on my 17km run yesterday maintaining an average HR of 145bpm and in order to achieve this I used the holding the Pringle technique I learnt from you guys! Awesome content as always and can’t wait to see more PBs coming in the future.
finally the sub 20 for amazing mary..... best video as ever.... and ofcourse then carrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr chattttttttttttttttttttttttttttt... this channel is growing ....
So great Mary, so inspiring!! Excellent the way you broke down the whole race. I'll be heading to my local track aiming for those 96sec splits on my way to try for the same result!
WOW. That was awsome Mary. You have inspired me to get my own sub 20 5K. I even had a tiny weeny tear in my eye when you crossed the line but don't tell anyone. Congratulations.
Congratulations! That was very well done! Just found for channel and it's fun to watch these videos especially after such a long race drought here in canada!
Congrats!!!!!! I’m at 21:23 and next goal is under 21, this video really inspired me! Tomorrow I will try a sub 45 10k pb, will have this video in my mind!
Haven’t run I a few weeks after taking up running for the first time in January. Feeling inspired by this to get back out there! Get back to my dub 30 min goal.
Wowsers 🤩🤩 Someone else i follow had a tilt at sub-20 5k this week and she got a pb of 20-15 which is awesome of course. So to see Mary not just break 20 but smash it and kick it down the road.....well just brilliant, so brilliant. Gives me inspiration that maybe, just maybe I will too one day.

Also great to see someone running the full 5k on the track, rather than just using their watch GPS!
