The contrast in styles is so deceptive- Jess runs like a pure athlete and Andy looks like he’s barely moving yet clearly he is. Well done both and especially Jess for not punching him at the end - awesome effort! 🎯
Jess' technique looks flawless to me. I really wonder, from a physics perspective, what explains the difference and how Andy's shuffle can be that fast. Can someone explain it? Is it mass to power ratio? Running efficiency? What else?
@@SubtleForces look at how much taller he is. His stride length is about the same as hers and they have the same cadence about. He doesn’t have to work as hard to lengthen his stride.
@SubtleForces His stride length means if he were to actually go into a run he'd need to move much faster. It really is as simple as he covers enough distance per stride that this pace only requires a shuffle from him. Jess' shorter stride means she has to actually run to keep that pace.

As astmatic myself, i cant do this. For me, 5k pb is 40:25 and 10k 1:25:50. But its nice to watch running channel and just do my best. You are great inspiration
She runs a lot! Congratulations!!! I still reach this time, my best 5k I did in 23 minutes, I was working to do sub 20, but I had an injury at the time and 2 years later I'm running again. Goals I have in 2025, improve my 5k under 20 and complete a 21k. Congratulations on the channel and to all of you!
Andy is a beast, looked effortlessly easy for him. Really loved his commentary and coaching throughout. I did a mini fist pump at the end for Jess when I saw the time!! Awesome effort. 🏆 I'm on a mission to get sub 21, about 90secs off what my PB is now, this gave me so much motivation!! Great work!! ❤️
It's my worst, so tough to resist. For some reason I always find it in me to go a bit harder or stay on course in the 4th and on the 5th I throw everything I've got which usually works....but the 3rd one is so brutal.
Woah! So impressive from both. I'm not sure what is more impressive - the 100% effort from Jess and the determination to get her PB or Andy pacing her at what would appear to be his conversational pace. Congrats to both and whoever was on the bike!
Great, I think the emotions and doubts apply whatever your target time. It resonated with me as a newish runner of 60 still dreaming about going under 30 mins for 5k 🏃🏼♂️
So, I entered & ran a 10k race after watching this. I've been cycling more than running but this was so inspirational I had to try. To keep me pushing, all I could picture was Jess putting in this hard effort while Andy paces her. I ran just under 62 minutes which is way faster than I thought I could. Thank you to TRC for all your great videos! Love from South Africa.
I think andy counted this as a zone 2 workout. Great job jess and andy that was impressive. As a guy that just started "running" its crazy to see andy glide to a sub 19 5k.
Found myself shouting at my phone in the last k "come on Jess, come on". Great content and very relatable. More of this kind please. Jess is a great addition to the team. Well done!
Nice work Jess and Andy, so impressed with both of you, what fantastic pacing and coaching from Andy, chatting throughout! A 10 sec PB is really great work.
Fair play Jess, there's no doubt that you gave that everything and left nothing on the table, and I think we can say that rumours of Andy's inability to pace have been well and truly quashed. Ready for my next PB effort now, thanks for this inspiring content!
I just relived my 5k from Saturday. I told many I'm glad there was not audio as the pics don't really demonstrate the pain I was feeling. Congrats Jess! Thats and amazing time!!!
The 4th km is the worst. Always have to fight the “pukes” at about 3.5k. Thankfully our parkrun (where I do most of my hard 5k running) has a little uphill and a quick steep downhill coming up to 4K. I use it as a booster to finish with a fast last k! Congrats Jess on the new PB.
Amazing job Jess to find that little extra and catch back up with Andy at the end. When you were dropping off of him, I wasn’t sure if you were going to be able to do it, but what great mental strength to push and catch back up and get that PB! Congrats! And great job pacing by Andy. He is a machine!
Jess that was AMAZING!!!! 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥 The breathing, pain and fatigue were real, but you fought thru it. Andy just makes everything look so easy, sounding like he's doing a podcast in a chair with Rick and Sarah.😲
Kilometer 3-4 is the worst mentally for me. You're well into it and tired, but the end still seems so far away. I start wondering if I can keep pushing or if I can pick up the pace by the end. Fantastic job Jess!!
Thanks guys! You are a true inspiration for running community. ❤ Have a nice tip for you: 1:32 this is a common and entertaining shot angle in your videos, but if it was to be recorded in slow motion, it would be fantastic to see.
Andy at a pacing job???? The end is near 😂. Cracking job to both of you 🎉🎉!! EDIT - Both of you are champs for doing your respective jobs to perfection. Loved every second of the performance and the commentary ❤.
Way to go Jess. Way to embrace the pain cave. That was an incredible duration of 1:1 breathing that you battled so well through. This really showed what someone can, and has to endure, when reaching for that PB. No matter what the fitness level you can always try a little harder if you believe in yourself. Great coaching Andy! Brilliant!🎉

This is how I felt when I did my last all out time trial mile and ran a 5:11. And sprinting the last 200 meters just thinking about the finish line, is all I was thinking about. It felt like it would never end, but I finally did it. My goal for the mile is to break 5 minutes, as well as 18 in a 5k. I have a 19:21 5k right now, but I know I can break 19 soon with some training, sub 18 though is going to be difficult.

I'm at 21.06 and trying hard to get a sub20 right now, and this is one of the most inspiring videos I've seen! Congrats Jess!
Wonderful video--so much commitment from Jess, so much kindness from Andy.
Andy is a beast, looked effortlessly easy for him. Really loved his commentary and coaching throughout.
I did a mini fist pump at the end for Jess when I saw the time!! Awesome effort. 🏆
I'm on a mission to get sub 21, about 90secs off what my PB is now, this gave me so much motivation!! Great work!! ❤️
What an effort! Well done Jess 👏
I was so invested in that. Brilliant work, Jess, and excellent pacing, Andy.
Anyone else can relate to the 3rd kilometer always feeling infinite on a 5k run?
EDIT: Just got to the end of the video and congrats on the new PB!
Totally. The third is the worst.
Oh yes. But so is the 4th and 5th k lol.
4th for me. I usually kick the 5th ok but make or break for a PB is the 4th.
Yup. My 3rd quarter of the race is always the hardest
Great effort Jess! Amazing time.
Go Jess go!
Hurray! You did it! I am so happy for you.
Great work Jess! I was with you the whole way - in spirit at least. Physically I’d be a long way behind you …
And amazing pacing , Andy
Jess that was AMAZING!!!! 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥 The breathing, pain and fatigue were real, but you fought thru it. Andy just makes everything look so easy, sounding like he's doing a podcast in a chair with Rick and Sarah.😲
Well done Jess and congratulations great effort and well deserved PB 🎉🎉
Kilometer 3-4 is the worst mentally for me. You're well into it and tired, but the end still seems so far away. I start wondering if I can keep pushing or if I can pick up the pace by the end. Fantastic job Jess!!
Thanks guys! You are a true inspiration for running community. ❤
Have a nice tip for you: 1:32 this is a common and entertaining shot angle in your videos, but if it was to be recorded in slow motion, it would be fantastic to see.
Andy at a pacing job???? The end is near 😂. Cracking job to both of you 🎉🎉!!
EDIT - Both of you are champs for doing your respective jobs to perfection. Loved every second of the performance and the commentary ❤.
Andy! You are giving goosebumps to us! That 18:32 seemed like an easy jog for you!
Brilliant!🎉
maximum respect. could see she was at her limit, a rare place to get to and even rarer to hold for so long. truly inspiring, thank you for sharing, amazing to watch - captivating. Subscribed off the back of it
This is how I felt when I did my last all out time trial mile and ran a 5:11.
Great effort Jess that looked so hard from the very start, and what a machine Andy is just cruising and chatting away.
Awesome effort Jess!!
Awesome run Jess! Nothing better than smashing a run while giving it your all! That’s what it’s all about.
Ffs... that was emotional! Amazing effort by Jess... Andy demonstrating superhero genetic make-up "I just shuffle.." 😮
This was superb. An excellent example of putting it all out there. Congratulations Jess and amazing pacing. The guidance along the way was just perfection. I really enjoyed watching this, thank you. 💪💪
